Guests uning quick service restaurant tables

There is no difference in my mind between a dad and a couple of kids sitting at a table without food, watching other people struggle with their trays and a single person on a cell phone watching people struggle with their trays. Having kids doesn't mean you get to throw common courtesy out the window. And that often times seems to be the cry on the Dis "But I have kids! That means I'm the important one!" Not said in that direct of a way, but it is a huge under-current to many threads.

Again, this is only even an issue when seating is at a premium. If there are plenty of empty tables, I doubt many people would care. But if you (in general) see someone with a tray and no place to sit while your rear is planted at a table, the considerate thing to do would be to at least ask that person to join you.

The difference is, the dad sitting with his kids are getting ready to eat. The person on the cell phone hanging out either finished eating or is just hanging out. They need to get up to give someone their seat, not the family that is getting ready to eat. As another poster mentioned, most people will not order food for a family of 4 or more if they don't have a place to sit.

In the end everyone can say/do whatever they want. The facts are Disney heard the complaints and they have made changes to accommodate people. When it is deemed necessary by Disney you now can not sit without food.

Say whatever you want.... they are pretty serious about not letting people in the seating area without food.

And it seems to me, given the mindset demonstrated by some of the posters to this thread that the use of the signage and restrictions on access to the tables will have to increase in frequency.

Which in turn requires more CM's and higher overhead and contributes to higher ticket prices.

All because people don't know how to be considerate and mindful of others.

Wow you got free stuff just for using obscenities?!

I think she saw everything they did and how rude they were. Next time if I see someone sitting by themself at a big table, we will just sit down and make them very uncomfortable.

I do think it's necessary more. I think it's great that Disney has started it during peak times, but I don't think they do it enough.

If I weren't so timid, I'd do that too.

Interesting.

I know the right thing to do when eating CS where ever I am in the world but thats because I was brought up in a household that taught manners, courtesy & common-sense.

After reading this thread though, I am shocked at the fact that people actually go into an eatery and sit down when they have no intention of getting food/drink.

Seriously. That makes no sense to me. Whatsoever.

Have a question, y'all. :)

Is it rude to enjoy your meal (eat at a normal pace and not rush through it), knowing other people are waiting for a table?

Here's my take. I want to sit and enjoy my meal and my time with my family I don't want to be rushed out. Am I being selfish?

This is true, but alas maybe it doesn't go far enough. Smaller places like Sommerfest and Katsura Grill can get overwhelmed with crowds, and it's not obvious to me how a system simlar to Pecos Bill's can be implemented there.

I would never say it is rude to take the time you need to have a relaxed meal at your table. Disney I am sure knows that some people blow through their meals at warp speed and others (like me) tend to be slow eaters.

My way of thinking would be "Take all the time you want, just use all the time you take."

I guess we'll have to wait and see if fistfights break out at the new Be Our Guest Quick Service lunch! ;)

I actually don't think it's rude at all to enjoy a few moments with your family before heading out the door. But it would make me uncomfortable to dally very long if I saw others waiting. And no, I cannot quantify "dally". It's somewhere between stuffing your face and taking a siesta.

I havent read all ten pages, and we travel at either fairly low times or moderately busy times. We are a party of 7 typically and I actually find it more annoying to have an entire family in the quick service line ordering. Total chaos, imo. We are a divide a conquer family. Two adults take orders for everyone and get in line and order, the other adults take the kids for a potty break, good hand washing and find a table. This takes about the same time typically and they aren't sitting there long before the food arrives.

This is what works for our family, so this is what we do.

Is that the same as DILLY-dally?

Do you dally daily?

Does Donald Duck dilly-dally during daily dalliances with Daisy Duck?

But, I digress...

No, I don't think that's rude.

I don't think anyone thinks anyone else should have to rush through their meal to clear the table as fast as possible. The only thing I find annoying, aside from people with no food sitting at tables, is when people are done eating, and are there for more then a couple of minutes after they're done. (This is only when there are people looking for a place to sit and eat, not when it's not busy and plenty of tables are available.)

Yes. All of the people who explained their actions and frames of reference were only concerned about themselves. The point is that in many circumstances, people think that getting out of the way by sitting IS being polite. Here is what I, and many others said:

1. At home, we often send members of our party to get a table at FF restaurants to relieve congestion at the counter area and allow people to get waited on faster. We do this out of consideration for the other people in line.

2. Since that is the norm, we may have (prior to reading this thread) not realized that seating is an issue at CS restaurants and tried to do the same. Not to be rude, but to try to make things move easier for everyone and because we didn't realize that seating could be an issue.

3. We would observe any rules made by Disney about not sitting without food.

4. We are not talking about sitting with no intent to eat.

5. We would move or share if we realized our mistake (and there had been no CM to tell us otherwise).

Very few people on this thread said they would do otherwise. Most people at Disney are not WDW experts and do not realize that what is normally polite in real life is not necessarily going to work at Disney. Obviously there are rude exceptions, like in the examples given in this thread, but I fail to recall anyone saying screw everyone else, it's all about me. The extremely rude examples are not participants in this thread and nobody said that is acceptable behavior, regardless of the framework.

Most people want to do the right thing. Disney seems to have realized that people are doing otherwise and are making rules to correct the situation. Which is the way it should be handled. Saying that everyone is only out for themselves is the opposite of what I got from this thread. There are extremely rude exceptions, but most people are trying to do the right thing.

It can take up to 15-20 minutes to order/get your food at WDW sometimes - so thinking that you're 'relieving congestion' by hogging a table before you have food is a pathetic excuse, IMO. In a situation where it is difficult to find a table, you really think sitting there waiting for your family member to get the food and bring it to you is OK? People can actually sit and eat their food in 15-20 minutes.

I've read through most of the thread. We travel to Disney in August - and have for the past several years. I'd say that August is a peak time if the lines and crowds are any indication. I've NEVER seen a sign at a CS location asking people to wait to be seated until they have their food and I've NEVER had a CM directing seating in CS locations either. And honestly, I've never given this situation much thought.

At home, on the rare occasion that we do go to a fast-food restaurant, we typically have one of us sit with the kids while the other orders. In those situations, it's more because we don't feel the need for all 4 of us to stand in line around the counters. I guess I've never considered it being any different at Disney. We get our seats, either me or dh brings the food a few minutes later, we eat, and then we get rid of our trash and leave. We don't linger.

Not sure if we'll change our usual ways for this trip, but I'll definitely be more aware.

eta: of course, if there ARE signs and/or CMs directing seating on our next trip, we'd obviously comply. I'd actually be quite pleased to see CMs directing seating...

I see that ADRs will open for BOG in Aug. which is fuelling the interest on this place for the holidays. From the way the CS meal was described on the blog this morning, I think that the signs and restricted access to tables will be a permanent fixture here at lunch.

I just came across this thread and had to chime in. A few years ago we were in one of the places to eat looking for a table. My wife was 5 months pregnant and we had out 3 year old. Well there was a table big enough for 6 people easily with just one person sitting there. I kindly asked him if we can share the table with him and he said no. He then waived his friend over and they opened up their park maps and spoke in French (French canadians). This was at lunch time and they were not eating. Well that got my wife all fired up and she told them off in french. She said every curse word I can think of in french. A cast member saw what was going on and found a table for us and apoligized for that happening. She gave my 3 year old a pin and gave us a bunch of fast passes.

No matter how rude they were, your wife was setting a fine example for your children, and in front of other families. Two "rudes" don't make a right. Not saying they weren't wrong, but your wife cursing using every word she could think of in front of the whole area was just as, or more so wrong.
We eat after usual lunch times and never encounter any problem finding a table, and have never seen the signs, or them not letting you in without getting your food first. Didn't even know they did that till now. It won't impact our eating though.

I think it has to be based on what they describe. And that's a good thing too. I think that place is going to be NUTS for a while.

:thumbsup2!!!!!!

I'm saving this thread for the next "Disney prices are obscene" thread on TPA&S, next time there's a price jump :teeth:
