Guest Test of Magic Bands (Official Notice)

Visitors to the site/app saw a message telling them that they needed to order their MagicBands within the next few days!
They were also coached to choose their FP+ rides.

The problem is...

that info was only for a very specific, very small number of guests who have been
pre-contacted by Disney for an upcoming test in Aug.

It was NOT intended for "everyone," but the site did not make that point clear
and it caused a "frenzy" of posts from DISer's (and others) all anxious to not miss out on this
"great new information" of the final "coming of the new system."

It was/is a MESS.

I logged in and saw the messages so I ordered the bands which arrived already plus I booked my fps. I guess disney's test might end up being larger than they planned, I can't imagine they would try to tell customers that it was all a big mistake.

Anyone have any idea if you need to check in before you use them? There should be more info with them or online. I did see somewhere something about a pin to purchase items which is great so if you lose it people can't just go souvenir shopping. I'm guessing the pin is done at check in since I didn't see anything online about charging to the individual bands.

Can anyone confirm this for sure? We were hoping to go to a park before check in but my gut is I will be checking in really early.

Does any one know if guests staying in a Animal Kingdom Lodge Villa @ Jambo House have been part of any tests?

I have read that tests have excluded DVC members, but what if you are not a DVC member and have reserved a DVC room/villa through Disney as part of a holiday package?

Typically, if the room reserved through DVC using member points, you are on a different reservation system, which is why there is often separation.

If you reserved the room paying cash through typical Disney channels, then I believe you'd be eligible.

I don't know if I missed this somehow but I had to call in last night to pay my balance and I asked about the magic bands. My hubby and I are nerds so we actually want them!! She stated that in September they are doing a resort wide roll out of magic bands (and I assume FP+) at Pop Century in Sept. I know this may not make some people happy but I do believe that it will be an option for the cards. However for the rest of the nerds out there....YAH!!! She told me to start looking for the email to be sent.

In August, we have a split stay with a cash non-DVC reservation at AKV/Kidani and then we move to CR. We only were only able to customize bands and make FP+ reservations for the CR part of our trip.

That's somewhat surprising, although I wonder if Kidani is in some way excluded in general...

I've been wondering this too! We wanted to go to a park before we checkin. So can we just go to the desk and do checkin even if the rooms not ready? And another question....can my boyfriend put his own credit card on his band? The room is under my name but our finances are separete and he wants to have his band charged on his card for him and his boys. I want to have my card on my band

Thanks for the info! I'm staying at BWI, but I'm hoping they'll be there in September too! We check in on the 5th

Not surprised rumors abound they are looking sone kind of mass roll out by FW.

Asking for forgiveness of my stupidity in this mess --- but I'm so confused about the Magicbands+ and FP+ even after reading posts. So, we are going in November --- starting last week I began getting a pop-up window on the My Disney Experience that I needed to select MagicBands and FP+.

But, am I understanding correctly that I don't actually need to do that if I haven't rec'd an e-mail from Disney?

I actually asked on the mom board on Disney and felt like I got a "corporate" answer of how great this program is and it gives me the ability to customize my experience.

Also, the bands -- are they ones that we can take off and on or is it like at Great Wolf Lodge where once they are on they don't come off w/out cutting them off? I understand that for those kiddos sensitive to things on their bodies we can opt for a the KTTW card or carry their band.

I can tell you that the bands are adjustable and removable.
If the window popped up telling you to customize, I would do it. I still haven't received the official email, but my Magic Bands arrived yesterday.

Are you sure the window doesn't say: Are you ready for a new kind of magic? That wants you to connects your friends and tickets to MDE?
Im going in Oct and that's what I see.

Dang :mad:and yippee :yay:, I guess. We too are a bit nerdy and really liked the test of FP+ from last Sept. My problem is that I only paid for the obligatory 2 days park tickets for our Sept. trip, because not all members of our party will be there the entire time. I generally add days after arriving on individual tickets to save money. Now, I will be out 7 days of FP+ IF they even let us do the 2 days I have paid for on our MYW package. Grrrr, I really want them for the entire time, so I guess I better call up and see if it isn't too late to increase my tickets now. 48 days until our trip. (my ticker is off).

I really think that's going to be a sticky point with a lot of folks when this rolls out for real. I have done that very thing many times, buying the ticket equal to the lowest number of days someone in our party is doing, then adding days for the ones staying longer. They are really going to have to find a way for people in a group to have a different number of days.

Is there any chance that when you check into your hotel they say "here are your magic bands" We leave in 12 days and hoping to be able to participate

That would be nice, but for now I went ahead and paid for the additional days - cost me $40 extra so I REALLY hope we are included!!!

Like tkbbmom, I started receiving a similar popup last night. It tells me to hurry and link my tickets so I can customize my bands for my upcoming trip (January--not the upcoming testing period). It also mentioned FP+ in some way; can't remember exactly. I didn't pay much attention. 1) I'm not sure I want magic bands until I know is going on and 2) I have no trust in Disney IT.

I'm thinking that roll out is just around the corner.
