Does anyone here know what resorts we can exchange for in Grand Cayman? I know that they had damage during the hurricanes, but that is one of the places that i would love to go to. We stopped there during our 1st disney Cruise & loved it. Anyone been there for a week? any idea of the condition of the island now? thanks Val S.

I understand the island had major damage. The two resorts are Grand Caymanian and The Reef Resort. Both should be worthy trades in the future. I can put you in contact with the manager at the Reef, I'm sure he can give you info about the other resort as well. Email me directly and I'll pull out his email and send it to you when I get back home (doing the College Tour thing and checking on family this weekend).

hi my entire family was in grand cayman during hurricane charley
this summer. A friend of mine owns a condo on 7 mile beach. We also had been there several times for a day on a cruise. You probably want to wait a year or two. The vegetation is gone--killed off by the salt water. Some of our favorite restaurants were totally swept away into the ocean. The island is just getting back to 24 hour power now. We visited St. Marten years ago shortly after a hurricane and it was horrible! A couple of years later we returned to St. Marten to find everything in good repair. Grand Cayman is very very (did I say very) expensive. If you are going to spend that much money, better to go when the island has rebuilt a little. Good luck.

You got that right. When two people can't get out of Burger King for less than $25.00 you know things ain't cheap. Do GC in '06.

There is some serious money in the Cayman Islands. One example is the types of cars driven. On other islands in the Caribbean you see many old cars that seem to be on their last legs tooling around. On Grand Cayman you see Porches, BMW's etc.... If there is an island that will come back after the storm, it will be Grand Cayman.

Yep, lots of ultra-fast exotic sports cars too. Ironic since the whole island is about the size of Walt Disney World.
