Got my CROCS... color issue? What do you think?

I posted the information because most people do not have their monitors and TV's adjusted correctly.

Anyone interested might want to do a search on color managment and PC's.

I was thinking that so I asked the guy (who didn't look at me like my head was spinning around.) He said not all stores had them, (but they did have the airwalk swell side) and told me to check out another store close by. Now I know what I am asking for (not Croc knock off's that look like they are made of plasic, but aren't! ;) )

Thanks for the link Mickymousegal! That was very helpful.

I don't think I can run all over town before we leave in one week looking at every odd Hallmark, wild bird store (there are a few around here.) and outdoor store looking, but I can hit the payless at the mall (and DD can play!)

Now I need to call CROCS online and cancel my order for the niles in size small. They would be too big. Maybe they have them in XS!

Hon, the CROCS website does offer the Beach version in XS. They show that as being a woman's size "4-5". The SM size fits women with a size "6-7".

I agree that colors do vary amongst screens, but in this case, I feel there is a significant difference.
It seems to me that the colors do vary. Even on Crocs own web site, there is a picture showing Beach Crocs arranged in a circle and the pink ones are a very pretty pastel pink. But if you go through the order process to order a pair of pink Beach Crocs, the picture of the individual shoe is a much darker pink, leaving you to wonder which shade of pink is correct. I ordered from them and my pink Crocs are a dark pink. I like the pastel pink color much better. Someone reported that her daughter has pink Crocs and they are more of a pastel pink.

We've also noticed that the shoes are coming from different manufacturing plants: Canada, China and the US so maybe the color varies depending on which plant made the shoes. In any case, it's not helpful to those of us who don't have a good selection of Crocs available locally and need to order online. I prefer things like the color of the item I'm buying to be more predictable!

I agree that monitors are not always adjusted correctly. In my case I use a laptop so I always have to be careful about where on my screen the image is positioned since colors look darker at the bottom of the screen, or if the screen is tilted too much or too little. But I order things online all the time from places like LL Bean and in general, the color of the item I receive is very close to what I saw on my screen so I don't think this is a monitor issue so much as a quality control or predictability issue with the manufacturing plants.

Now, in that picture they look a totally different color than the original picture you posted, to me. They look much more buttery there.

I agree, based on the fact that the shoes are being made in so many different places the colors probably are quite variable.

However, from my experience, you also can't judge color exactly from an online picture. That's just what I've come to expect from ordering online.

So, overall, if you're trying to match an exact color, you better shop in person. If you don't really care that much, online ordering shouldn't be a problem. :)

I've also heard someone else talking about a bright yellow color on another thread here. Maybe you did get a mis-labeled color.

Anytime!
I now own two pairs and my parents own three pairs between the two of them! (Yes, even my 59 year old father likes them!)

As if the color confusion wasn't enough, I noticed a weird size difference when I bought mine. I tried on the size large black ones, and they were WAY too big. However, the size large navy ones were perfect. As much as I'd like to order the Nile style from the website, I think I'll stick to buying them in person.

Ladies, just wanted to let you know that I wore the Payless Airwalks for 2 days straight (right after I got them) and now, the CROCS for 2 days. There is a distinct difference, imo. The CROCS, overall, are more comfortable. It's like, there is just that *extra* whatever factor.. does that makes sense? lol :goodvibes

I also bought two pairs of the Payless knockoffs. They are comfy and I could buy the two pairs for less than one pair of the Crocs. I did get a pair of the originals at a camping store. They are navy blue. I really love the shoes, but whoever said your feet wouldn't sweat in them must have the coolest feet in the world. As soon as I put mine on, my feet begin to sweat.

I think the color is off from what they website showed. I tried to order a pair of the black Beach model from Crocs and cancelled my order b/c they're on back order. I'll try again with another color in the future.

From my experience, however, you're never gonna get a true color sample on a website. There is too much variation in color settings of monitors, I suppose. If you're ordering online you're always sorta taking a chance, IMO.

i agree. even beyond websites, the ways to show color in graphics are generally not "true" and can really distort things a lot. i order a lot of stuff online and i never freak outif the color is off -- i sort of expect it actually. you can always return merchandise you don't like.

I am a graphic designer and use various computer graphics programs on a daily basis. Even before reading this thread, I had checked out the Crocs website and thought something looked funny with the coloring of the shoes. I'm not talking about the photos they show on the homepage where there are people wearing crocs or the image of the crocs displayed in a circular pattern--those look fine to me. I'm talking about the individual shots of the shoes you see when you click on the specific color.

To me, they look as though the shoe was colorized digitally in a photo program, as if a color cast was applied over a photo of a white shoe. Part of the reason I thought this was the case is because the darker, shadowed areas of the shoes seem to have too much of a color cast in them; These individual shots, to me, do not look like they were taken of the actual shoe for each c olor. Although I cannot claim with 100% surety (gosh that word looks weird!) that the folks at Crocs colorized the photos, that would be my assumption. If that is the case, this is a pet peeve of mine because it would be pretty hard to get an accurate color representation of what the shoe really looks like, and when it comes buying clothing on the internet I think every attempt should be made to photograph the ACTUAL item instead of trying to re-create the color on the computer.

It is true what some have said about monitors being calibrated correctly and that if yours is not adjusted right it could throw off the appearance of the colors. But if my theory is correct (that they colorized the shoes digitally) then this only adds to how much the shoe colors vary when viewing them on-screen.

Because of this reason (and the fact that I'm picky about the color of shoes) I decided to only buy them once I can see them in person.

Anyway, that's just my two cents.

I was eating at Panera Bread today and I saw someone wearing Crocs! They were the pink ones. My Mom and I have the Payless ones and their pink is more of a watermelon-pink. Somewhere between hot pink and orange. (We didn't buy this color, but had *just* been at the mall getting her a second pair and saw the pink ones.) The lady at Panera must have had the Crocs because they were much lighter in color than the Payless ones. Not a pastel, but not the watermelon pink of the Payless ones. More of a bubblegum pink, IMO.

I agree, the colors are way off. It's hard to match colors but that is way different. I didn't know if I'd be able to get the 'real' CROCS as I couldn't find them anywhere and was getting close to ordering them. I went to Payless and got the pink & blue knock offs, haven't worn them yet. However, there is a new REI store and we went in last night...they had CROCS! I actually had wanted the 'butter'/yellow but they didn't have them. I got the emerald green but haven't checked the website to see if the color is accurate.

The new REI store.. is that in Marlton where the Zagara's used to be? I'm looking for Crocs..

Yup! You and I must be neighbors, then? We went back in tonite because my ds wanted a pr of water shoes ($70.00) that he saw the other nite. He bought them himself, so that was fine. Anyway, I was going to get a pr of Navy Crocs but only had XXL. I was talking to the sales guy and he said they are getting more in and Crocs are very popular with hiking people. The hikers are in boots all day and they get to camp, take off the boots and put their Crocs on. They are cool and can get wet. He'd never heard of Disney folk wearing them. Also, he did say alot of nurses wear them.

Well, I wore my Crocs to the mall yesterday and I'd have to say... I was the only one there wearing them! :goodvibes I did get some strange stares so I'm guessing the "craze" hasn't caught on yet around here :rotfl2:

I also found this information which I thought some of you might find helpful. It gave me a better understanding of the difference between some of the models.

The idea behind the Cayman ™ model is to take a great thing and make it even better! The Cayman ™ is the next generation of shoe provided by Crocs ™ Footwear. We listened to our customers who love our Beach ™ model but wanted more. They wanted full sizes, an even better fit and sizes for KIDS! In response, we traveled to Italy to have our new molds hand made by craftsman famous for comfortable shoes. The fruit of our labor is now available in the Cayman ™ model. It comes in full sizes from men's one through thirteen and is available in nine colors. The size one can fit a six-year-old! The shoe has a sleek and more slender look and its accurate sizing make it the most comfortable shoe we've ever produced.

The Metro ™ model is a hybrid between the improvements of the Cayman ™ and the functionality of the Highland ™. The shoe was designed to prevent spillage from getting the top of the foot wet by eliminating the holes on top of the shoe. However, we kept the ventilation ports around the sides and put a rib around those ports to wick fluids away from the foot. The result is a great looking shoe that can be worn stylishly with slacks in the office, on a boat with shorts, or on the operating room floor with scrubs! Our most versatile shoe has the same form fitting foot bed as the Cayman ™ and comes in men's sizes three through thirteen and is available in seven colors. For all our customers who have been asking for a more formal looking shoe, the Metro ™ is the answer!

The Highland ™ model was recently introduced with people who have to deal with inclement weather in mind! While ventilation ports are great in the sun, surf and sand, those who live in cold climates need to keep the snow and water out! This model is the perfect answer. It has the same features as the Beach ™ model but will keep your feet dry because there are no holes. Kick off those uncomfortable ski and snow boots and slip into pure, light, slip-resistant comfort. They are also great for professionals who must wear shoes without ports in them, such as in the health care and food service industries. They come in six sizes and four colors and are also perfect for gardeners.

The popular Beach ™ model was the first shoe introduced under the Crocs Footwear label and has been a major part of the footwear industry's evolution towards comfort. It's made from a patented closed-cell resin, not hot and uncomfortable plastic or rubber. It features an orthotic foot bed, multiple ventilation ports, a slip-resistant sole, and weighs only ounces! Stand on your feet all day without pain! The functionality and price make it a great choice for people who love comfortable shoes. They come in six sizes and twelve colors that make them a fun fashion statement for young and old alike, with or without socks. You'll need a couple of pairs to match every outfit!f
