Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Zela, great to hear from you.

Pat, have a great event Sunday!

Seattle Sunny, Welcome! Great to have you here.

Interesting, Sara Rose, will meet Seattle Sunny and you didn't even know you would both be here first!

Sara Rose, great job on your mileage and with your young girls. What a wonderful experience you have and also one you are giving.

I got in 6+ lovely miles today. Not easy since it was an unusual 72 degrees here. It is done.

Hi All,
Got in 15 today. It was brutal. Mid 80's with matching humidity. Might be because this was my first week of back to backs of any length. 7 last night 15 this morning.

Legs were beat but this is why we train right?

Keep it up all it's getting closer.

enjoy,
Duane

HEy everyone

have 0 runs in since monday and won't get anything until Tuesday most likely. Missing my runs has me freaked So much so I was ready to bail after being off for over a week if not longer but I've been assured I'll be fine. Good to hear training is going well.

Went out for a 6 miler this morning and my legs felt so heavy. I didn't have my arch support in my shoe (only wear it on the left side) it has been causing me to get a blister on the bottom of one of my toes so I figured I would try the shoe without it. Well I guess that insert has helped more than I realized because my arch was really burning without it. Funny I didn't need it last year but do this year. I am supposed to be getting a 13 miler tomorrow - hopefully I am able to make the full distance.

14 miles on the schedule for today. Looks like it will be sunny and low 50's at the time I am planning to be out there. :goodvibes

I'm taking the dog with me now. Going to try for more mileage myself later. I've got dinner duty so not sure how the magic will happen.

Chris, I'll bet you feel the energy when you start back on Tuesday.

:welcome:, Zela and Seattle Sunny!!

GoofyinOhio/Chris :cool1: This is me kicking your bahonka!! You WILL be ok as long as you get back on the training wagon. A little time off will not hurt you!! It was wonderful to finally meet you in person!
Christine, how did your 14 go?
Great job, Duane!!

After watching the NYC marathoners, tracking our WISHers and keeping tabs on Pat and her NH half..I thought it would be a good idea if I got myself out to do 7 miles. Done! So, technically, that completes week 10 of Goofy training!! Can you believe 10 weeks has gone by??!!

Let's keep it going!!
:goodvibes Anne

My 14 miles....

When I was getting my gear together this morning I realized I had made a mistake when I transferred my training schedule from the book to a spreadsheet. I was really only up for 6 miles today!!

I went to church relieved about the change. I have been in some "intestinal distress" since Thursday and I figured 6 miles seemed a lot more realistic. After mass a friend asked me to attend a fundraiser with her. Ugh--that would really cut into the walking time! At first I told her no, but I felt like a real heel to blow her off so I could take my walk. So, I went. And, it was a really nice event.

By the time I got home I knew that walking was not a great idea since with the time change it would be getting dark before I finished. And, they close the cemetery at 6.

So, I figure I will go out and do the 6 tomorrow instead. I was going to hit the TM tonight... but, I am really not feeling all that great. I think my body will appreciate the rest more than rigid adherence to a schedule.

Hope everyone did well with their training and events this weekend!!

I was able to get in 13 yesterday but it was on my bike and not running or walking. My legs still felt heavy and I didn't want to plod along for 13 miles as that would take hours. LOL

Hi all -- Managed 12 slow miles yesterday -- I'm feeling like I'm on the mend but DH went home sick today with what I had Friday-Saturday. I just hope we can't re-infect each other! Thrilled that today is a rest day.

Sarah -- how funny that we'll meet in Greenwood! Save a slow girl for me. Here's hoping that their "conversational pace" still fits in my "gasping for air" pace! :)

Well, I made it out yesterday. Did 8 miles instead of 6. Avg time per mile was 13.12. I think that is my best training time! Glad I rested an extra day...

I had my half marathon on sunday in Wilmington, NC. It was so hard!! There were so many hills and 3 bridges!! I dragged my friend with me who has never run a half before and I felt terrible that it was so hard. She kept telling me to leave her :( But we pushed through and finished in 3:02. I don't think I will be returning for that race next year.

I went out today and got in my 4 miles. On schedule for 8 tomorrow. I am hoping to get back into a good running routine. Only 9 weeks until I leave for disney!!

Becky

Zela - Welcome and I am so sorry you got swept at mile 23. That is just cruel.

Chris - I hope you are feeling better soon. I had a sinus infection and cough and had to take 13 days off - it killed me:sad2:

Duane - sorry to hear you had a tough time. I have 15 scheduled for saturday.

Tricia - good job getting the miles in!

Pat - hope the race went good for you!

Anne - good job getting out there!

sunstress - way to go on the 12! I hope you and DH are feeling better soon.

Imgonnabe40 - congrats on your 8!

Lily - glad to see your training is going well!

To everyone else, keep up the good work!!

Becky - How was the weather in Wilmington? I thought about you on Sunday while we were at the race in Raleigh. Conditions here were HORRIBLE. It rained ALL DAY, and it got colder each hour. The wind blew and made everything worse. Those of us at the water stop wished we were running, since we'd at least have a goal in sight, but instead we stood there freezing for 6 hours doing our best to support the runners and offer whatever encouragement we could! I was hoping it wasn't as bad at the coast. (But if you thought it was hilly there, don't do City of Oaks!)

Jackie

Thanks for all the welcoming statements:grouphug:

And yes Lexxiefern, I agree that it was just cruel. But I accept it, I had slowed way down by the end. I am just gonna make sure I don't slow down this year.:yay:

Chris? You'll be fine. How is this week treating you? Did you get out on Tuesday? 3 weeks ago from Halloween Ray had to pick me up due to a cramp in my calf. I limped the final mile to reach the car. That Tuesday I tried to jog my usual 4 miles and ended up with ice and motrin. Took that entire weekend off. Last Thursday went out for 6 miles and thought someone had a voodoo doll with my name on it because EVERYTHING was hurting that usually doesn't hurt. Took Fri and Sat off. Sunday did 6 miles in what is my usual time but I kept getting stronger with each mile I ended running the final 1.5 miles in (on hills as far as I was concerned LOL) and managed a sub-12.

Monday - 5 miles on the bike with my usual core training

Tuesday night I was running late only had time for 3.5 miles at a 12:49 pace per mile.

Tonight is the gym again.

I am hoping for at least a 12 miler this weekend but would prefer having another 16 again but I think that might be a bit much to jump back at. :sad2:

It sucks when pains sideline us for a week cause then the doubts start in. But we just have to ease back in and keep putting one foot in front of the other. Hang in there Chris and everyone else dealing with colds, injuries and doubts. Look on the bright side as Becky pointed out 9 weeks... 9 weeks till we get to see all of our Team again. :)

Those of you doing races lately, I'm getting really jealous  I haven't planned one until the Goofy so am starting to feel the itch and am drooling over photos and stories :) Congrats!!!!

Welcome Seattle Sunny and Zela!

Back at it. 4 Miles in last night on the treadmill and 4 this morning before work. Felt pretty good although I was sore some last night. Felt good to mentally get that out of the way. Next hurdle is running a really long distance this weekend.

Diane - I had the famous Piggy Virus (H1N1.) Although I could have run I was advised not too so I listened to that so called expert (My Doctor lol) and now I'm back at it.

Becky - Glad you finished, but sorry to hear about the race. Sorry to hear about taking the time off as well. It really freaked me out.

Can't wait to see everyone in just a few short weeks as the Holidays will make it FLY bye.
