Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Chris - glad you are able to get back in there. I didn't realize you had the swine flu. Yikes! Be careful, don't over-do it.

Diane - Please send me some of your magic potion or whatever you take that makes you want to get out there and do a lot of miles. I have to kick myself in the rear (and that ain't easy) to get out there an GIT 'r DONE. I've been entering quite a few half-marathons lately just to force myself to train. Sad, pathetic, I know.

Becky - I thought the same thing about all the hills in San Francisco. Yikes! :teeth:

To all of you hanging in there and getting the training in one way or another - WAY TO GO! It won't be long now - 2 months to go. I don't know if I should be happy or :scared1:.

Sending lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for those with illnesses and inuries.

 Chris! Did the family get it too? Oh my :( Glad to hear you were able to get in the miles on Tuesday and feeling better. Hope the longer distance this weekend goes smoothly for you :)

Healthly PD thoughts for everyone!!

So far no. I was at Disney until last Tuesday and was in Isolation for the most part until Monday so we think I didn't pass it on.

I sometimes forget this isn't connected to facebook where I had already said I had it..... :rolleyes1

Reporting in: W11D2 (Tues)Goofy training.

50 min TM done. Heading to the health club soon for aqua-fit.

Training continues. Slogging away. Nothing much to write about, but it's getting done. Concerned for the weekend mileage, and hoping it will not be horrible. Keep at it everyone.

Becky - How was the weather in Wilmington? I thought about you on Sunday while we were at the race in Raleigh. Conditions here were HORRIBLE. It rained ALL DAY, and it got colder each hour. The wind blew and made everything worse. Those of us at the water stop wished we were running, since we'd at least have a goal in sight, but instead we stood there freezing for 6 hours doing our best to support the runners and offer whatever encouragement we could! I was hoping it wasn't as bad at the coast. (But if you thought it was hilly there, don't do City of Oaks!)

Jackie

Jackie, the weather was not what I had planned on. We checked the weather in the morning and it was supposed be 72 at the start and get cooler (down to 65 by the finish). But that did not happen. It got hotter and I was wearing a tech tee and I was dying - I should've worn a tank. It was raining all day saturday on the drive up from Charleston and in Myrtle Beach, but not one drop of rain on race day. About halfway through the race I was praying for rain I was so hot! Sorry to hear you had terrible weather! How did your DH do? I am used to the very flat area where I live so any hills are bad, but some of these ones in the race were real HILLS. Oh well I made it :rotfl:

Is run to victory hilly? Did you run it last year?

Becky

Becky - It was 71 when I got up Sunday, and 54 by the time the marathon finished. It's too bad we couldn't have combined the weather between the cities - we could have used a little of your heat, and you could have used a little of our rain!

DH finished his first half in 1:56. He was hoping for 2:00, so he's happy with the result. Now he's trying to figure out how much faster he can do at Disney!

I have to be honest - Run to Victory is hilly. I ran the 5 miler 2 years ago, and am doing the half this year. A whole group of us are planning on taking our time and not trying to break any records and just treat it as our LR for the week. I just checked the elevation chart, and it looks like it only varies about 200', but it definitely rolls. During our training run last week our leader told us if we're doing that race to plan to run the downhills and walk the uphills. It's just such a great race and a great cause, though, that we do it anyway! And you can always justify it as good training for the overpasses at Disney...

Jackie

Jeanne, loved your trip report!!!!!

Well over 1 week of no training for me....wow, hope it doesnt take long to get it back. Finally think I am over this bug and time to get back at it.

Kim

I am reporting in with a run this week - I did 4 miles on the TM on Tuesday during Biggest Loser. I was able to get it done in 54 minutes (and I know I am always slower on the TM than in a race) I had the TM on 1.5 incline so I am hoping that helps. Supposed to get in 4 miles tonight so I will be doing those on the TM during Survivor. Then I have 7 planned for Saturday and 10 for Sunday.

Good luck with training - and hope everyone sick or injured heals up soon so they can get back out there.

After 3 weekends of racing I'm finding hard getting back into training mode.:sad2:
Going to go around town tomorrow and then back out to the trail on sat.

My DH has decided that he had better start training too, he wants to BQ, so last night he went out with DD in the stroller and I followed behind on the segway.

Jeanne, great race report! What a fantastic memory. Can you believe it. It is a memory now!

Kirstie, wow for DH. Hope he does get that BQ. I think a bit of a breather is in order after NY. Not too much though. Don't want to lose it.

I got in some today. Even managed to figure out my Wii battery issue. I'm Wii-ing once again.

20 slow miles today. 2:23.

For the fisrt crank in 3 weeks I was sweating!!!!!

Glad to hear you are back out there, Kirstie. Weather still that warm in FL? Unseasonably warm here too. Doing 14 miles today... I usually do my long training on Sundays, but DH wants to go to lunch after church tomorrow and suggested I go out today instead.

Reporting in:

W11D3 Goofy training (Weds) - 60 min aqua fit done.
W11D4 Goofy training (Thurs) - 55 min TM and 20 min ST done.
W11D5 Goofy training (Fri) - 60 min biking at the gym done.

Heading out soon for 8 miles.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Got the 14 done with an average pace of 13.08. Trying to figure out what it would take to sustain that for another 12 miles... Also, if I do the half at that pace, will I have enough steam for the full the next day...

Got in my 14 miles yesterday. Managed back of the pack pace and today I feel a bit tired, but ready for more! Right now if I had to do the remainder I would not have had it in me to finish the 12.2 at pace. Still working on it.

I've even managed to lose some pounds doing the training this time. Amazing.

Thanks, Tracy! I still have my nametag from last year. :D

For my 14 mile LR, I did a half-marathon yesterday. The course wasn't hard but the wind and heat made it difficult. My shoulders, neck and legs are so sore from fighting the wind. I'm reversing the LRs. I'm going to do my shorter run today. It will be slow as I can't move very fast today. Ha!

Next up - San Antonio half next weekend followed by the Tulsa half the weekend after (if the weather cooperates).
