Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Diane, I am on the TM during BL in real time--Tuesdays 8-10 PM. But, ugh!! Those commercials do get to be a bit much! Though, it is nice that durning that timeframe none of the commercials are for high cal/fat food or fast food places--except Subway.

I feel your pain. Not from raking, but my right gluteal is particularly "tender" today. Think I will alter my plan from TM to elliptical. That may be a modification I need to make for every Monday of my plan.

Becky - City of Oaks is in Raleigh. There's a full and a half marathon that day. Most of our running group is either doing the race or volunteering. I ran it last year, and decided to skip it this year since it's so close to the Richmond marathon I'm doing on Nov 14th. (There's a half there too - don't know if it's full yet or not - you might check that one out. I know there are a couple of other WISHers doing Richmond as well! ;))

Anne - Congrats on the PR! :woohoo: R1W1 is supposed to be a great plan - Jeff Galloway says he's doing all his marathons that way now, and his times are still amazing. I still want to see how fast his run segments are, but I don't think I can make the same start corral at WDW! :rotfl:

Diane - I'm thinking I'm carrying the camera for both races. I still would like a respectable time, but my real goal is just to finish. I reserve the right to revise that goal after Richmond! If I have as hard a time finishing the 26.2 as I've had on the training runs, then finishing Goofy is all I care about. If I don't crawl across the finish line in Richmond, I'll have hope that I can at least finish one of the two in a decent time... :rolleyes1 I do, however, want photos with my medals. ASI screwed me last year and lost my photos, so I have nothing to show with me and my Mickey medal or the ones with DH and me together. This year I'm going to take the official ones and have them take ones with my camera too!

AFM - Ran 10 very hilly miles on Saturday (why do I feel like all my LR posts say "very hilly?") Felt great at the finish. Went to watch my brother in a cyclocross race and walked around the course there. Woke up in the middle of the night and got out of bed to go to the bathroom and almost fell over when I put weight on my left leg. Pain in the shin was so bad I almost cried. Don't know what I did - DH says it was the hills, but I'm taking ibuprofen and it seems to be easing. I think I may skip the run today/tomorrow and let it rest. Don't see any reason to injure it with less than 3 weeks to go before the marathon!

Hard to believe, 10 weeks today I head to disney....WOW... I will be ready, just hope my heel is.

Hello fellow Goofy's - I am modifying my training/racing plans. I was supposed to have a local half marathon on Sunday but I am going to skip out on it. I haven't been getting all my scheduled miles in (I have been bad and cut my milage when I am out there doing my run/walk) Also I stubbed my toe on Monday night and it hurt really bad yesterday and occasionally today. I did this half marathon last year and since its local I can always do it another year. Plus they give dinky medals (I am a bit of a medal snob!! LOL) I remember loosing stride last year after this half marathon and I don't want to loose stride this year I want to gain strides since I have a bigger goal this year than last - my goal this year is to finish both races and not feel too bad afterwards - I am talking head and stomach wise - I know the muscles are going to be sore but I can deal with that. So I have also modified my training plan - it was just way to aggressive for me - I stepped it back a notch and hopefully with 11 weeks left I can at least get through this training thing.

Glad to see everyone else is chugging along and doing great. Good luck to those that are going to be doing races in the next couple of weeks. Kudos to you.

Kim STOP it! :lmao: I see those weeks and it scars me more than the day countdown :rotfl: I told Mom recently that I knew it was just over 2months away but then I'd see Kim's post with the weeks and FREAK! :scared1: LOL

60 min aqua-fit class - done! It was a really killer, the instructor was channeling Jillian and Bob, and thinking it was the last chance workout.....I loved it!!

Looks like everyone is doing well and being mindful of injuries. Good thinking.

Kirsty, you'll be fine with the 18 miles. Just do what you can and try to not lop off much more. (Even though if you must, you can.)

I did not take a camera on my first full in WDW (happened to be my/the first Goofy too). I was terrified and took nothing but my phone. Hind sight: I could have taken it with no problem and although I say I don't regret it. I do.

I didn't report this on this Goofy thread so I've just copied it to here about my Sunday trek the week after Des Moines: I am THRILLED to report I got 12.48 miles in and for the first time in ever I managed very close to a 14 min mile for the 12 miles. My overall pace was 14:14 for 12.48 miles. It was nirvana! At 12 miles I stopped working and walked it all back to my stretching place. I amazed me! It was perfect weather for me.

I had both my camera and my phone in my pockets for the Princess. I have a pair of shorts from RaceReady with all the pockets. I had the pockets all packed with my nutrition and gadgets. Everything fit. What I did not anticipate was the shorts falling down from the weight of them everytime I ran!! :rotfl:

My modification for Goofy will be that I will leave my phone in my checked bag and bring my camera. Oh, and I think I will take a practice run just to be sure I don't have issues with my shorts again. ;)

Thanks for the ideas with the camera. I have always wanted to bring my camera but never have. I did have my phone camera for the full and the Princess but that doesn't always take the best pictures.

Christine - always good advice to do at least one practice run with whatever you are going to wear and carry during the race. That must have been so uncomfortable with your shorts falling down the whole way.

Yeah...I knew not to wear anything new...but didn't consider that adding a slim little camera would have such an impact!! Luckily I did more walking than running so it wasn't a problem the whole time.

Hi everyone -

Very belatedly joining this thread as DH and I will be joining you for the Goofy. We ran the full in January and had medal envy as we watched all the Goofy finishers clanking around the parks for the following week!

Our training has been going okay, though these short days, seemingly endless rain, and the longer distances have proved to be extra challenging. We're really hoping we don't get as much snow as we did last year! We've been following a modified MfM training plan that adds a 1/2 distance run the day before the LSD run, which we do on Saturdays and Sundays. (For example, we will be running 6 miles on Saturday and 12 on Sunday.)

As this will only be our second marathon, I can't begin to predict times -- our goal is to finish with the same absurd grins on our faces that we did in January. (DH and I holding hands, and I'm leaping in the air in our finish line photo -- awesome!) Our 1/2 marathon time is usually 2:15-2:30, but I think we'll take it extra easy to "save ourselves" for Sunday.

I look forward to learning from you Goofy veterans and being inspired by all of your hard work!

Best,
Sunny

Hi Sunny!

Just wanted to quickly reply as I see that you're in Seattle! Man, the rain is getting old, isn't it? I don't think I had a single long run this month where I wasn't at least damp by the end of it! :lmao:

And there will be no snow this year. It has been decided. :goodvibes

Where in Seattle do you live?

As for me, I finally broke 100 miles for the month of October as of Tuesday. I took yesterday off (besides chasing my little Girls on the Run kids all over the track while coaching last night!) as my left calf had gotten a bit tight and "bulgy". I'm running a Halloween 10K tomorrow (in a Little Red Riding Hood costume - ok, a modified red tablecloth over my Minnie Mouse running skirt, and a basket :lmao: - along with my German Shepherd in the grandmother's clothes) instead of my scheduled 9-miler, and then I have 15 miles on the books for Sunday.

Everyone is doing so great with their training! Keep it up!

I will be doing the goofy with ya'll. Last year I did the half in 3:15 approx and then I got swept at mile 23 of the full. My goal this year is just to finish. I don't have internet so I don't get to post that much but I would love to be on the list and maybe joing a pacing group closer to time.
Thanks!:wizard:

Hi Sarah -

I'm in Ballard, how about you? Okay, if there's snow this year, I'll blame you.

Speaking of GOTR, I've signed up to be a running buddy with the Greenwood girls. Which program are you coaching? I'm really excited (and not a little worried that I'll be too slow to keep up with my girl!).

Best,
Sunny

:lmao: That is so funny! I'm the head coach for the Greenwood site! So I guess I will be meeting you in a couple weeks. :goodvibes The girls are all really sweet kids, and extraordinarily talkative, so get ready to get your ear talked off for 3.1 miles! We do have a few pretty fast girls, and one who is determined to win the 5K out of all the Puget Sound girls... but they all have pretty short legs. :rotfl:

I live just south of the Fremont Bridge, on the northeast side of Queen Anne. That is just too big of a coincidence!
