Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Lily,

Thanks. I did the back to backs every week last year or just about and I finished so I should just do the same this year.

Hey Guys.

I have been MIA forever! My computer broke and I was borrowing a friends but it wouldnt let me log on :confused3 but now mine is fixed so I am BACK!:goodvibes

Anyway so the update for me is I did the RFTT 2 weeks ago which went awesome, last weekend I did 4/9 mile back to backs which also went well thanks to the drop in temp here in FL and I have the ToT this weekend :thumbsup2 training is going well but I am flying to England on Sun to see my family and I am going to have to do 10 and 12 milers with HILLS and COLD! but I am sure it will benifit me in the end!

I had a question for you Goofs, I had an injury this spring which caused me to start my training a little late, I have caught up on the MfM plan a little but I am still behind, the way I am increasing now I will only have time to complete 18miles before Goofy, I could skip a few weeks and increase more so I can do the full 20 but I am worried about aggrivating my injury (overuse stress fracture) I have never done Goofy or a full before will I be able to complete with just one 9/18 back to back before I taper?

Thanks for your help guys :thumbsup2

and Happy training :cool1:

Kirsty

I would have thought that it would be better for you to stay injury free and have less miles under your belt, than risk not being able to run at all.

YOur WISH team mates will get you through those extra miles.

I agree Kirsty, I was worried about the same thing, I have been dealing with PF so was worried about doing b2b walks, or just doing the marathon distance and be a little undertrained but hopefully injury and pain free so that is what I decided on and think it is good advise for you also.

Reporting in: W9D5 Goofy training.

Did 50 min on the bike at the gym last night. Will do 7 miles on the TM tonight because the weather this morning was too icky.

Wah! I got a bad sinus infection and will not be doing my 15 miler this weekend. Don't want to risk getting more sick. I hate missing my LRs! Next weekend I have a half in NC so I better be feeling better for that. I did my first back to back last weekend. Did 10 on saturday and 7 on sunday (I know wrong order).

Hey Pat, I just saw that you will be at Kiawah - I am signed up too. (did we talk about that at RFTT??) I am not 100% yet if I can do it, I need to find out my DD's gymnastics schedule. If she has a meet that day I intend to do the Run to Victory the next day instead.

I hope everyone is healthier than I am!!

Are you doing City of Oaks? I'm working a water stop for the race; DH is running the half. I'm planning on doing Run to Victory too, so let me know how your schedule works out!

Jackie

Becky - I hope you get to feeling better soon. I don't remember talking about Kiawah at RftT, but I hope you can make it. I hear it is beautiful!

Reporting in: W9D6 Goofy training.

Just finished a little more than 7 miles on the TM, thinking of all the WISHers at ToT.

Finally on track with training...I think! My weeks run Mon-Sun. so I have completed everything so far except the 12 miler set for today. Hope it warms up a bit!!

I was hoping to finish my 12 miles in 3 hours...my actual time was 2:42:34 :cool1:

I did a bit of running with my walking and average pace was 13:33. Followed up with a cold soak, heating rub and my SKINS. Hopefully I will feel recovered by 2morrow. :goodvibes

No I am doing Battleship Half in Wilmington. Where is City of Oaks? I also just found one in Conway, SC for Nov 14th. I might add that in too. I will definately let you know if I end up at Run to Victory. Would love to meet up with you!

Christine - congrats on your 12!

Pat - Thanks. Went to the dr today and got on an inhaler :scared1: Never had to use one of those before. I hope I see you at Kiawah!

Becky

Kirsty? I think you've already left for England, safe travels and tons of fun with the family! I agree with Kim, better to get to the race injury free.

I skipped my LSD this week. Last chance till next weekend for a LSD and decided that I'd rather start again on Monday and see if my 2 mile jog went well and then continue with my usual training. My leg feels better but my only jog this past week was back on Tuesday and while it was 4 miles and actually under a 13 min/mile I ended up coming home and icing my calf and grabbing Motrin.

Instead spent 2 hours outside doing yard work this afternoon. My legs had the day off but boy did all that raking tire me out! LOL I think I'd have been less tired had I done 16 miles :rotfl:

BUT! I will say that it was less effort than it was before I started all this training and gym visits.

Pat you are being sooo good about reporting in. :woohoo: On Tuesday nights I always think of you and Anne on your TMs as we all watch Biggest Loser, well I am watching TV just depends on who has the remotes and controls the TVs at the gym LOL

Becky I hope your sinuses are easing up!

Christine! Excellent time on the 12 miles!

Wow lots of great training in this weekend for everyone.

Got my 12M in on Sat, 2:57...I am strickly a walker so I was OK with that time considering I had major shin splints for about 2 miles and my PF was acting up almost the entire way.

Rested Sunday and got my 60 mins in on the TM this morning. I hate the TM but I knew I wouldn't get out tonight and way to close to marathon weekend to miss any training.

Trying to start a weight program. Anyone willing to share what they are doing? I have a bench, lots of free weights, stab ball and resistance band.

Any ideas???

Thanks Kim

Kim--way to go on your 12 miles!!! I wish I could walk that fast. When I walk, seems like I really have to push to get a 15 minute mile!!

I started strength training with a personal trainer in August. I told him that my goal was to strengthen my core and tone up my arms and legs. I do a lot of variations on the simple push up... You may want to see what happens if you google strenth training, maybe a routine will show up. Also, are you familiar with Prevention magazine? Every issue seems to have a strength training artice. You may be able to find some of them at prevention.com.

Well, HELLOOOOOO, team mates!!

Now that my October events are finished, I should be able to report in more frequently!!

Diane, you are doing great! I Tivo BL and Amazing Race. I do the TM on Monday and Wed, so I get to watch those shows on TM day. Can't stand waiting through the commercials!

Becky, Wendy and I are joining Pat in Kiawah. It would be great fun to see you there. You are a marathon machine, woman!! I hope your sinus infection is just a memory by this time!

Kim, AWESOME job on your 12 miles!!! I was trying to maintain a 15 minute pace at ToT, but stopping to take pictures of the clues slowed me down. I've already decided that I'm not going to carry a camera for the full. My concentration is going to be on FINISHING! As to the weight thing, the best thing by far that has helped me in this battle has been to journal. I would never have believed it would make a difference, but it does for me.

Kirsty, you should be great with 18 miles. The more I read, the more I'm learning that the fuel along the way is what is going to help us get those last miles in. We're building up our leg endurance for the distance, but we really have to be careful with the fuel. Replacing the electrolytes and replenishing the carbs as we approach mile 20 and beyond is just as important. ::yes::

The half in IA was AWESOME! Temps were in the 40-50 range, sunshiney, beautiful autumn scenery..siiigghhhh. Oh, and FLAT!! Was able to keep up with Lily on occasion as she tried R1W1. That's how I managed to PR by 4 minutes!! Pat and her DH, Jim, left us both behind as they blasted to the finish line! :rotfl: We took quick showers and climbed into the car for the six hour drive back to Chicago. We were a hysterical sight to see whenever we got out of the car at rest stops!!

Last Saturday, after two years, I finally got to meet Chris (GoofyinOhio)! Also, to see Kirsty-Leigh for the second time. As always, the highlight of any WDW event is meeting up with WISHers!!

Keep those prayers and pixie dust going for cool weather come Goofy time!!
:goodvibes Anne

Anne - For the full I will have either my camera or at the very least my phone with camera in it on me :thumbsup2 Same goal as you. FINISH! If I see a short line and see that I am holding true to my plan then I might use the phone but really I want the phone/photo ability at the end when Mom and her camera can't get back where the medals are. Bringing it with me on the HALF though, planning on GOOFing off :lmao:

Biggest Loser - Anne, Pat and everyone else who watches for training purposes you ALL watch it on Tuesday evening with me while on the TM. I refuse to contemplate anything else :lmao: I was taking great joy in knowing everyone else was putting in their steps at the same time so excuse me while I cover my ears and hum while you all discuss what you REALLY do at 8 pm on Tuesdays LMBO

BTW, I was wrong. I AM stiff today from that raking! Darn those leaves!

Diane, :grouphug: You go right ahead, dahlin' and believe whatever you need to to get it done!!!
