Goodbye Jack Sparrow !

I've read a few trip reports and comments where people talk about how Jack Sparrow, in complete character, ignored one child and spent lots of time with another. While adults understand that he's in character, a child probably won't, and it may be simpler for Disney to simply cut the character altogether, especially in these times instead of dealing with angry complaints from irate parents.

There may also be some truth to the idea that Disney doesn't want to pay royalties to Bruckheimer for using the character.

OK, I wasn't going to tell you but the truth is...Jack has retired from Disneyland and moved in with ME! LOL!!!

I love how he is holding his imaginary rum glass/bottle/goblet in the picture! That is a nice but subtle touch. When we took pictures with Jack at the TOTP, the very first thing he said was something about rum, so it did make me wonder how that went over with kids in the park! Of course, we adults find it entertaining, but I wonder if little children hear that and start wandering around, asking strangers for rum!!

Disneyluvr, I that Jack. He was the best, IMO. His voice was identical to the real Captain Jack's. A very very great (and good looking!) actor. I hope they find somewhere else for him in the park.

Man, I'm sad! I love watching Jack interact with guests, so funny.

ETA: I just wanted to add, I just read on another board that the Bootstrappers (the pirate band that place on Pirate's Liar) and the other pirate characters will be leaving with Captain Jack...

This is so sad, and IMO, the wrong place for cutbacks.

They add more than just a photo-op, they add atmosphere and a certain flair to the NOSquare area that will be missing when they leave.

that's so sad that jack sparrow is going away =( I used to get anxiety when the Hot Jack (the one interviewed in the article posted) was around because he was SOOOO good! Voice, mannerisms, the look, all dead-on.

I was lucky enough to have 3 amazing experiences with the Hot Jack...1 involving him approaching me inside the disney gallery, attempting to steal my hairbow...then he asked me for my bag, which i willingly gave him as he rummaged through all of my stuff, throwing it all on the floor, only to look for my shiny keys. i, of course, did not mind because i got to be in his presence for a while without the bother of a crowd...lol and he pleased us with a witty joke before he left to harass other guests ^^

after hot jack was fired, i never cared much for the other Jack Sparrow face characters as they were never as comparable to him.

but i know so many people look forward to seeing him nonetheless. they should cut back on other things. i don't know what, but for me, seeing the characters accounts for a huge factor on why i love disneyland so much.

I'm just glad that I was able to get some great character interaction with Jack and other pirates when I could. Maybe they'll bring them back during the summer as a seasonal thing (when they need pirates on a daily basis for Fantasmic). The island's going to be kind of dead without them.

Oh, that is a huge bummer. One of my sister's friends of MySpace plays Jack at DL, so I wonder if they'll have him play someone else in the meantime? We got pictures with him, good ones too, but it's still a bummer they're taking him out. But, like someone said, the fourth film should bring back POTC popularity and his return, hopefully a Barbossa too!

Well when we were there Captain Jack was reallllllllllllllly interested in some teen girls and ignoring some little kids who wanted to talk to him..

DH and i both glanced at each other and later said.. what was up with that??? We wrote it off to the "MiLey" effect.

But, like someone said, the fourth film should bring back POTC popularity and his return, hopefully a Barbossa too!

It all depends on when that movie comes out (i.e. how long it'll take to get the ball rolling). I'm still hoping for a Will Turner to go walking around one of these days (although if they dress him in the last costume for the 3rd movie, I'm sure there'll be mobs of women that he'll have to be rescued from on a daily basis ).

Well perhaps that opens the door for My costume again. Some of you may recall back in 2006 before DW or DL had ANYTHING remotely connected to the movie in the parks, no merchandise, no character NOTHIN That I took my grown sons to DW for Halloween as I had done a complete realistic Jack Sparrow costume. and my other son is a dead ringer for Orlado Bloom and he was in Will Turner gear. Back then it was allowed in because there was no Character in the park. Even so security harrassed us all nite long. the minute we entered the park people started stopping us asking for pictures etc. We told everyone who asked we were just guests not anything to do with the park but people kept at us anyway, and the Black shirts showed up immediately, threatening to kick us out of the park if we let ANYONE take our picture. Yeah like we could stop people taking pictures? Even their own employees were taking picutures and in the parade Baloo saw him and gave him Thumps up on the costume.
we managed to have a good time but they did follow us all night. Anyway by the next year they had their own Capt. Jack and that was the end of the ability to go in costume.
I have great pictures and memories though.

Corporations that make up policies such as the one that could have ruined your visit, should make the people that are the one's that may be perceived as the bad guys, be replaced by the corporate workers, that made the policy to begin with. There is nothing more that I hate, than to have to tell someone something, because it is my so called job, that makes me look bad, when in reality, it is not my choice (Some times it is) to open my mouth, and make someone angry.

Sounds like fun memories you all have!

Sadly, I think your costume will not be allowed, though. Unless it is at the actual Halloween parties, DL and DW do not allow adults (well, anyone over 9) in the park in costume.

I think Disney has such a policy in place because they have a vested interest in controlling their character. Likewise, said policy can protect the guest. I read a TR from somebody who dressed as a princess for a Halloween party and had mobs of little children coming up to her for pictures all night long. She said that it was fun, but it got to be overwhelming. Disney told her she could pose for pics, but do not sign autographs(they don't want children comparing autographs figuring out that the princess who signed their book was actually a cast member).

If a CM makes a mistake, Disney can correct that and if bad enough, even fire the CM, but there's very little they can do if a guest behaves wrongly towards a child. That costume policy is in place to protect Disney as well as the guest.

Those are nice pictures, thank you for sharing them. That actor is quite dead on for the "real" Capt.Jack. Those that I had seen at Dl. were good looking guys too, and were very good in their part. I just, again, wished that I had interacted with them then. I do not think that I will be able to see them again, before they set sail.
