Gone But Not Forgotten – My Family's 10 Days of DDP (with Pictures!) - Updated 4/7

We are definitely going to try Starring Rolls on our next visit -- the sandwiches look great and a much better offering than any other counter service at DHS.

Your little guy cracks me up with his snacks....just like my DS7
Great reviews...thanks for sharing

:scared1: That sandwich is HUGE!! It looks good though! We have never stopped in at Starring Rolls I dont think....may need to add it to the list...and those cupcakes! YUM!!!

Hadnt had Pizza Planet either...last trip we stopped in to get lunch there but a tour group was up ordering and there were tons of them!! So...we headed out and found MM.

Thank you for your report, I'm following along!

I'm so relieved to hear a good review about the food at CM! My teens insist on dining there in July (it's a tradition), and all the bad reviews lately have been making me nervous. The prime rib looks yummy; last time we dined there the prime rib was not good at all, and I was sooo disappointed, since on our previous visits it was great! Do they still have the horseradish cream sauce on the side?

I'm so sorry to read about your bad character interaction. Just curious, which room were you in? We have found that we get better character interaction when seated in the main part of the restaurant, as opposed to the side rooms.

Can't wait to read more!

That ice cream sandwich looks so good!! Can't wait to get one. I have never tried the Dole whip but love pineapple. I was going to get one last trip but never did so I'm going to make it a must this next trip.

The pic of your DS with the Mickey ice cream is too cute. I have one of my daughter at that age and her eyes are crossed looking at it.

:thumbsup2 Great reviews!
We ate at CM for breakfast and had great characters & good food!
It's all about timing I think when it comes down to it.
Looking forward to reading more! :goodvibes
I completely agree about the timing. Some CM's are just better at acting as the characters than others. Last year DS7 had a amazing interaction with Chip & Dale, and I don't think I'll ever forget it! :goodvibes

never tried starring rolls but looks super delish!! i love pizza planet as well, one of the best CS! so much food for one person!
Starring Rolls and Pizza Planet will definitely be on future lists. You can't go wrong with one of PP's combos when you're hungry.

Good decision! ;) They can't be beat for freshness and the best desserts around!

My DS7 is very adventereous at trying new foods. He picks the strangest things to try - I think he just goes by the name. Cranberry and Pineapple juice for dinner drinks, a Melon Kaki Gori, Mango lemonade, Minestrone soup, shrimp poppers, cherry tomatoes (his brother hates them,) and he even prefers white milk instead of chocolate (our child prefers white over chocolate!?!) Most of the time he really enjoys what he tries too!

We never stopped at Starring Rolls either until this year. I always saw lines and I thought it was just bakery. Now I know differently! :lovestruc

Unfortunately, I don't remember any horseradish cream sauce and I really like it, so I'm sure I looked for it. We were actually seated in the main buffet area - the first table between the dessert area and the dinner area. It was a little odd as we were pretty exposed to everyone, but at the same time there was a lot of room for the boys to stand up and take pictures with the characters.

Thanks! That mickey bar is the one thing he did want again this year!

We didn’t have many snacks today knowing dinner was at 4:00. We were able to slip in a few though.

Let's take a look at that éclair again from Starring Rolls that DS7 ordered.
1 Snack Credit - $2.99

:drinking1 I got a bottle of Diet Coke. Not a great use of a snack credit, but I was thirsty and had plenty of credits to use! I didn’t take a picture, but here’s a generic one. Wow, that's a big picture!
1 Snack Credit - $2.25

A box of popcorn at the popcorn wagon right by the big hat. Yes, I ate half of it before I remembered the picture - so I took a picture of the box instead. Love Disney popcorn! popcorn::

DS7 and I shopped at the Beverly Sunset Store while DH & DS13 went on the RnRRC at the end of the night. DS7 met the height requirement the 1st time, but not the second. He was very upset! :worried: While waiting in a very slow line, I met a very nice retired postal carrier who retired down there from Washington state and his DW works for Disney now. We waited a long time just for this. Had to cheer up DS!

A bag of Goofy’s Candy Company – SOUR Gummy Worms. Both DS’ love sour worms!
Unfortunately because it was "Family Size" it wasn't a Snack Credit – OOP $3.15

Both DS’ are off today so I will hopefully be able to post Mama Melrose’s this afternoon. It’s almost ready plus I'll have bonus pictures from last year!

We are back from Pizza Hut for lunch and I'm ready to finish Day 3.

We originally planned DHS for this day knowing that it didn’t have Fantasmic! scheduled and assumed (hoped) it would be less crowded. After WDW changed the EMH for AK, I thought I’d double check everything and found out that Fantasmic! had been added for this evening. With less than 2 weeks before we left, I (doubtfully) called to see if they had any Fantasmic! dinner packages available, and they did! The package is such a bargain since it allows you one appetizer per person with the meal plus reserved seating for the show at no additional charge IF you’re on the DDP. Awesome!

The boys built up their appetite while we watched the parade over by Drew Carey’s show. I love that they have things to do for the kids while waiting for the parade to start. DS13 can hula hoop? I learned something new about my child that day. I just realized that they're getting along! It must be that Disney magic.
100_3734.jpg

I also liked that they include the kids in part of the parade/show.
100_3739.jpg

Then we followed the end of the parade most of the way to MM’s. It was the easiest way to get through the crowds! We arrived right before 4:00 and had just enough time to wash our hands before our name was called. Our server was Barbara and she was very good.

DH, DS13 and I all ordered appetizers. Of course, 2 of the ones we wanted were both “appetizers for two” and there were only 3 of us. So we ordered the Antipasto for 2 and then asked if we could order the Calamari as a half order. Barbara said no problem as she was off.

While we waited for the appetizers, Barbara brought out warm rolls, butter and dipping oil. We all prefer butter to oil and they were warm, buttery and delicious!
1003749_1.jpg

1003750_1.jpg

Then our appetizers arrived. The Antipasto for 2 had a wonderful assortment! It included smoked ham, pistachios, marinated asparagus, olives, assorted cheese (blue cheese, parmesan & I don’t remember the 3rd,) salami?, and ???? We ate everything except the ????
1003751_1.jpg

The Calamari also arrived and looked liked an order for 2! We only order this once a year and we finished most of it so it gets a thumbs up from us. :thumbsup2 The official menu description is: Crispy Calamari for Two - topped with peppers and onions, served with a side of spicy marinara sauce. We didn't want to wreck our appetites so we left the peppers and onions. ;)
1003752_1.jpg

DS7 had the Minestrone soup as part of the kid’s appetizer. I was surprised he ordered it as he’s never had it before. It’s not my favorite soup and I don’t think he enjoyed it that much either as he didn’t eat much. DH ate part of it and said it was good but nothing outstanding.
1003754_1.jpg

DH ordered the Roasted Wild Mushroom and Goat Cheese Ravioli: poached in herb and mushroom broth topped with porcini whipped cream and imported parmigiano cheese. He said it was good but nothing memorable. I have to agree, because it looks delicious and I LOVE mushroom ravioli and even I don’t remember anything about it. He wished he had ordered the Spicy Italian Sausage but wanted to try something different.
1003755_1.jpg

DS13 ordered the Spicy Italian Sausage: with rigatoni pasta, peppers, onions, and a tomato basil sauce topped with caprino cheese. His review today is “I loved it, didn’t you see how much I ate?” Knowing DS13, he probably picked at the meal and ate the sausage and some pasta. I doubt any vegetables got past his lips! I know last year my step-dad ordered it and remarked it was spicy and he loves spicy sausage!
1003756_1.jpg

When they brought my dinner, they placed the Grilled Shrimp & Artichoke Flatbread in front of me. However, I had order the Shrimp Pipette: shrimp tossed with Pipette pasta with artichokes, peas, roasted red peppers in a basil and four cheese cream sauce. After waiting for them to prepare the right dish, I was extremely disappointed with it. The shrimp were good and I ate them, but the cream sauce was watered down and had no flavor and I left at least half of it on the plate. I should have kept the flatbread! Does anyone see any four cheese cream sauce?
1003758_1.jpg

The funny thing is that MickeyNicki was there at the same time we were and she also ordered the Shrimp Pipette. I am quoting her review “it was the creamiest, tastiest, tenderest, most wonderful pasta shrimp dish I have had yet.” Maybe in their rush to redo my meal they forgot the sauce?

DS7 had the spaghetti with cheese sauce. There's my cheese sauce! :rotfl: It was delicious! In my opinion, DS7’s meal was the best meal of the night. Sad, isn’t it? I left mine and ate his when he was done.
1003757_1.jpg

We were celebrating DH’s birthday as it fell at the end of the trip (the day after we went home.) This was only one of two places that did anything, but we weren’t really expecting anything. The hat made it home and is in the playroom in the basement.
100_3760.jpg

For his real dessert, DH had the Honey-Hazelnut & Ricotta Cheesecake for dessert. It was delicious!
1003764_1.jpg

DS13 had the Warm Chocolate Truffle Cake. His comment: “it was delicious.”
100_0350.jpg

DS7 didn’t want anything for dessert. :scared1: Whose kid is this? No child from my body should ever pass up dessert! It wasn’t even the only time! :sad2:

I had the Crema Limone – No sugar added lemon custard with fresh whipped cream and berries. This was good and the berries were huge, but I wish I had ordered the cheesecake and talked DH into splitting our desserts.
1003765_1.jpg

I still don’t know why I didn’t order the cheesecake. Two visits ago I ordered it and I loved it. Last year I ordered the chocolate truffle cake and wished I had ordered the cheesecake and did the same thing again this year. What was I thinking???

We left, did some pictures with Mike & Sully from Monsters Inc., watched the Osbourne Lights (it made my eyes tear up!) and then headed over to the Fantasmic show with our tickets. I love having that reserved seating and it’s a nice show to watch.

Although we weren’t thrilled with this meal, I am sure we will return. Maybe next time I’ll actually get the cheesecake!

ADR Time: 4:00 pm
Bill Time: 5:21

4 TS used
Cost covered by DDP $118.18

Here are a few pictures from the Osbourne Lights. It is just amazing and the pictures don't do it justice.

Maybe they gave Nicki your "four cheese cream sauce" as extra because they knew she was the Queen of the DIS Food reviews? :lmao::lmao:

We had a great experience at Mama Melrose's last year. We had Kevin for a waiter and he was excellent and hysterical! He was so good, I remembered his name. :)

Here are some pictures from last year’s dinner at MM of items we didn't order this year. I heard NO complaints from anyone on these.

Caesar Salad - with crisp romaine lettuce, Caesar dressing and crostini

100_0336.jpg

Mozzarella and Tomatoes - with marinated sweet onions, balsamic drizzle, extra virgin olive oil and fresh sweet basil. Yummy!
100_0337.jpg

Artisan Bread Sampler (for 1!) This is no longer on the menu.
100_0341.jpg

Wood-Grilled Tuna - basted with sun-dried tomato pesto over roasted vegetables. My mom ordered this but it was “too spicy” for her. :upsidedow
100_0347.jpg

Oven Baked Chicken alla Parmesan- over spaghetti. This was humongous!
100_0346.jpg

Charred Sirloin Steak - gorgonzola butter on roasted red pepper polenta, grilled asparagus and red wine reduction. Honestly, I only took 2 bites of this before the picture. The juice just moved around the plate to make it look less appetizing. Also, I wonder if it had some MSG in it. My belly didn’t feel so well after it, but it was delicious!

Kid’s Spaghetti with meat sauce:

Kat, I was thinking the same thing! :rotfl2: That or I got what was left in the the bottom of the pot and she got a fresh batch! :lmao:

yum! never been to melarose's but looks good! can't wait for more reviews! :thumbsup2

I don't see any roasted peppers either ....
Yea I'd say someone on the line screwed up

Holy cow! I think the next time I go to Disney, it's just going to be on the deluxe plan to eat! LOL

OMG this is too much and they swapped Todd's dish the sausage pasta (which neither of us liked at all) and brought him the pasta shrimp dish which was swimming in creamy cheese goodness!

This is too much because we were there the exact same time! Too bad we didnt know it or we could have sent the dishes back and said "WHATS UP WITH THIS?" :rotfl2:

I was scanning your pics to see if I could find Todd and myself in the Osborne lights but alas we are missing :lmao:

Excellent reviews!

Quote:My brush with DIS greatness….
We arrived before our ADR at the Poly as I had wanted to watch the flame / lighting ceremony at the Poly. We were late and I was hurrying to see the ceremony when what do my wondering eyes but appear, but MickeyNicki hurrying right past me with Todd following. I whipped by head around as I recognized her and stuttered to my DH who had just ran past me. He was not as excited as I, but I still thought it was cool. Nicki looked like she was on a mission and I wasn't going to be the crazy DIS stalker running after her calling out her name especially if it wasn't her! I hadn’t realized Nikki was going to be there and checked her posts when I came home. Sure enough it was her! I know, I’m a name thrower!:)

I'm in, great reviews! This is soo funny, there is a thread someone started about seeing celebs in the parks..I too saw Nicki in the bathroom in the Beach Club before our ADR at Cape May Cafe 2 years ago in October! I was too shy to say hello and that I knew who she was from her pictures/reviews! :lmao:

Boy...if this keeps up, Nicki will have to start going in disguise. And if we travel with her and Todd on a future trip as we discussed, we'll probably have to fight off the fans seeking her autograph. :rotfl2: :lmao::lmao:

Ok are you guys pulling my leg :rotfl: I wish you said HI even if it was in the bathroom LOL! That must have been when we were eating at Cape May and right before I met Angela from the Disboards.

I love meeting fellow Disers! For any others that have seen me dragging my husband around the parks please say hello :rotfl2:
