Gone But Not Forgotten – My Family's 10 Days of DDP (with Pictures!) - Updated 4/7

I also wanted to say I LOVE those ice cream sandwiches! I love to get one while I am waiting for the parade to start. I always have to share, though, because it is SO big! A great use of a snack credit.

Great reviews so far! I'm starving for something sweet so that picture of the ice cream sandwich is NOT what I needed. :guilty:

great stuff! ;)
Thanks!

I'm looking forward to the rest of your reviews:thumbsup2.
Welcome!

Great start! I'm in. Miss that french toast loaf.
I bought mine around noon and I just wasn't that into it. I don't know if it was sitting around or it was just me. I got plenty of ooh's and ahh's as I walked across Main Street with them though.

I can't wait for the rest!

Let's hear it for Mom who lets her boys take pictures of their lunch! No perfection needed! :goodvibes

--pennyplanner
Thanks Pennyplanner! We did a lot of camera passing around the table, but I tried to do a back-up shot just in case. I must be teaching them right if they're already taking pictures of their food! :rotfl:

Enjoying the reviews, keep em' coming!
Welcome!

Oh....what I wouldn't do for one of those chocolate chip cookie sandwiches right now. :worship:
Hi Kat! I still can't believe we didn't get one this year.

Hi!:) I am really enjoying your trip review. The pictures of everything is making me want to be there. :thumbsup2 That ice cream sandwich is HUGE!! I know what we will be eating the next time as our snack.:thumbsup2
I believe they put in 3 large scoops of the ice cream of your choice and you get to choose the cookie too. I remembered it was but, but not gigantic until I saw it in DS's hands!

They are a great use of a snack credit - even worth paying OOP. I know you can get them in AK too, but I could never figure out where.

Sorry! ;) I just pulled some ice cream out of the freezer. Luckily, it's small enough that once we share I won't feel too guilty.

I just had some orange juice and a pack of crackers. It didn't work. I'm still wanting that ice cream sandwich... :headache:

This was the first restaurant that we were going to that had lots of negative reviews. I almost changed restaurants because of them, but DS7 wanted to see the characters and we can stomach a mediocre meal for our son’s happiness. So, did we like it?

First, let me say that I thought the characters stunk. They moved fast and were not interactive – except for Minnie. Of course, that is my opinion as an adult, but I don't think DS7 realized that and he was very happy to see them. I don't think DS13 cared much except for Goofy (and maybe Minnie too ;).) They would come by grab both boys together for a picture and leave. We had to ask several to do autographs or they would have taken the picture and left. Goofy who is our favorite character was the worst. He was almost running from table to table. I know there are lots of tables to cover, but this was unbelievably quick and disappointing. Here is my favorite picture from CM:

One of many brotherly pictures (I didn't want to leave DS13 out!)

Alright, did we like the food? YES, Very Much. I was surprised how much I liked it after all the negative reviews. I don’t have one bad thing to say about the dinner itself. Desserts unfortunately were nothing special. Our waitress, Marian, was very good too.

The prime rib was awesome - cooked exactly like I like it. The parmesan mashed potatoes were also delicious along with the steamed broccoli with cheese sauce. The rolls were great too!

DH’s plate – ham, mashed potatoes, broccoli w/cheese sauce, seafood salad, cucumber salad, corn bread, and a sour dough roll.

My plate - prime rib, mashed potatoes, brocooli w/cheese sauce, green beans and a focaccia roll. I'm not sure what that white pile on the left is - chicken alfredo? (Butter is on the right - and no, I didn't use it all.)
1003638_1.jpg

DS13’s plate – chicken legs, ham, mashed potatoes and a focaccia roll.
1003634_1.jpg

DS 7’s plate – chicken nuggets, pizza, fresh peas?!?, fresh fruit and Mickey macaroni and cheese.
1003636_1.jpg

As you will see from our 2nd plates, we liked what we ate as we went back for more of the same thing!

For dessert: oreo mousse, some tart and cheese cake. These were good but nothing spectacular. I thought the desserts were a bit limited.
1003656_1.jpg

Here’s DS7’s ice cream sundae. I believe there’s some ice cream under the candy!
1003657_1.jpg

This is an amazing looking warm chocolate cake with chocolate raspberry sauce. I don’t remember what it actually was called, but something fancier. A few of us stood around just staring at it and commenting on how good it looked. I actually ran back to the table to get the camera and took a picture of this before anyone took some. Then I boldy went and took the first scoop. I have one word for this…. NASTY! How can anything this delicious looking be that bad?!? :confused3 I think I could only take 2 bites before pushing it away and I'm not a picky eater. Blahhhh! I'm shuddering now! :crazy2:
1003658_1.jpg

We wouldn't hesitate to go back if the boys want to. There are other places we still want to try, but it is an efficient way to see the characters and get their autographs!

Characters: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto & Goofy

That's all for tonight, I'm zonked! :cloud9:

:rotfl2:

If it makes you feel better, I don't think that combination in place of ice cream will work for most of us. I had a few bites of a Snicker's blizzard and now I'm good. :)

yay im so happy to read a good chef mickeys review :goodvibes Thats too bad about the characters, i remember this place as the best character meal :/

I'm so glad you had a good meal at Chef Mickey's. It makes you realize when you read these reviews that a Disney restaurant has off days just like anyone else. Our last experience at Chef Mickey's was great character interaction, but really bad food. It's why everyone, if they are interested, should try a restaurant once themselves.

Great pictures and reviews! :goodvibes We will be trying Chef Mickeys for the first night of our upcoming trip. We aren't picky either and the food looks yummy. So I am happy to hear a good review:)

Excited to see a positive review of CM's food, but bummer on the characters. I'm hoping to kick off our trip there and really want both kids to be able to see the fab 5. I've been nervous because of all the bad reviews.

Thanks everyone! After giving Chef Mickey's a very good review, I thought I might lose my reviewer respectability! KatMark said it perfectly. I really looked around to see what else I could get, and in the end I'm glad I didn't get rid of Chef Mickey's!

Great Reviews! Can't wait for more!:rotfl:
Thanks! :goodvibes

I was happy to give it a good one! You don't see many and I hope people will try it. Like I said, the characters cruised but DS7 didn't notice - he was excited to see them. I wish there had been more interaction, but as long as he's happy, I'm happy.

Great review!!! More please...:woohoo:
Welcome!

Exactly! :thumbsup2

Reviews are helpful and fun to read, but we've had some great meals and experiences that weren't rated very well by other DIS'rs.

Thanks! I think Chef Mickey's is a great way to start a Disney vacation!

Alright, I should be vacuuming and doing cub scout stuff, but I'm having sooo much fun doing these reviews I'm going to do one more. :yay:

Hi Bethany,
Like I said to Pigletto I think Chef Mickey's is a great way to start a vacation.
Your children are going to get to see the Fab 5 and get autographs. Before the characters came to the table I had already asked my boys if they wanted their pictures together or separate. If it was separate, then I made sure I let the characters know. I had to call Goofy back twice as he started to run off - once for a picture with DH in it too and for the autographs. He came back and the boys didn't think anything of it. I guess I can add Chracter Director to my job description as a mom. :lmao:

:thumbsup2 Great reviews!
We ate at CM for breakfast and had great characters & good food!
It's all about timing I think when it comes down to it.
Looking forward to reading more! :goodvibes

Today was a full day at DHS. My family loves this park! The lines were quite manageable – 20 minutes for most all day - except TSM & RnRRC. We were there early and first in line at the ticket machine and had a nice position to get to the fast passes first and into TSM – a favorite family ride! After lots of rides in 1-1/2 hours, it was time for lunch! Of course, the boys wanted Toy Story Pizza Planet but I was not being swayed from Starring Rolls. So we agreed that we would go to Toy Story Pizza after Starring Rolls.

Starring Rolls – Lunch 10:34 am
First, AllEars reports that lunch is served starting at 11:30, but the sandwiches were ready and being served at 10:30 which was great for us. This place is as tiny as everyone says! Luckily it wasn’t too crowded because we were doing a lot of walking back and forth - DH and I picked out sandwiches, then the boys picked out the chips, discussion about what desserts to get, then DS7 wants a dessert, oh, you get the sodas at the beginning at not at the check out? Right.

DH & I both got the Black Forest Ham Sandwich with chips, a large Diet Coke and dessert. As you can see there is a ton of ham in this sandwich and I had to take half out just to eat it. I remember taking some packets of mayo, but not putting them on. DS13 finished off the extra ham. If you don’t like ham, they have a turkey focaccia sandwich the same size!

Want a close-up? ;)
1003683_1.jpg

For dessert, DH chose the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake. This is a work of art. It is also difficult to eat but delicious!
1003680_1.jpg

For my dessert, I chose the Butterfinger Cupcake. Again, a work of art, but very difficult to eat.

Warning about the following picture:
I thought I’d be helpful and cut it in half to show everyone what it looked like inside, but didn’t do such an appetizing job (this is an understatement.) Sorry! :scared1:

Proceed at your own risk!

1003685_1.jpg

That is an embarassing picture. Maybe I should say DH cut it? LOL Remember, I did warn you! :)

STARRING ROLLS - SNACK
DS7 needed a dessert as well. So he chose the chocolate éclair. He ate about half and then we helped him finish it. It was as good as it looks!

Starring Rolls is a definite must do for us in future trips and if it wasn’t for the DIS I wouldn’t have known about the delicious sandwiches – much less their desserts! Thanks DIS friends! :lovestruc

TOY STORY PIZZA PLANET – 11:36 am

We stopped and went on Star Tours on the way over Toy Story Pizza which is why there’s an hour difference. I was able to convince the boys into sharing a meal as we were eating at Mama Melrose’s at 4:00 and they had both eaten some of our Starring Rolls. After agreeing on what to order, I went to order (walked right up to the cashier,) the boys went to play and DH went to find a table upstairs where we always enjoy eating.

They shared the pizza meal – pepperoni pizza, side salad, regular root beer and a chocolate chip cookie. I got an extra plate and split the pizza (1 pc for DS7 & 3 pcs for DS13), salad and cookie. No complaints were heard! They ate all the pizza and some of the salad and shared the cookie too.

This cookie looks good right now! It was one of those soft cookies. Mmmm.
