"Golden Corral was our best meal" says my Sister. 8 days of yum for us, not them!

Thanks for the recipe, OP! I have to get through Easter cooking, but then I'll give it a try (and post a photo!).

Also thanks for the tip about using muffin pans: I haven't made another item that calls for ramekins - despite having the recipe for years - because I just never get around to buying ramekins (and I'm big on decluttering - I hesitate to buy ramekins because I'd probably use them 1x a year).

So, thanks for both the recipe and decluttering tip! :)

Where is the recipe?

Love your reviews so far! I'm Canadian so I never been to Golden Corral but I'll be sure to avoid it whenever we're in the USA!

I'm in! I can't wait to see what else she has to say. I wouldn't ever take any of my DH's family on a trip and do more than an occasional meal or partial day in a park with them. I know what I would here, so I just won't do that at "my happy place".

I've always wanted to try Coral Reef but I don't eat seafood. It looks delicious though!

They actually have a lot of land food options as well :) It was surprisingly very good !

Judas Priest you cannot get a break. I would have flung them both in the tank by now. ::yes::

I have now decided that I should try Coral Reef. I have hesitated because I thought I would feel guilty, eating a relative of something swimming.

I got over it after seeing your dish. :goodvibes

lol, that didn't bother me. I admit, it was a pretty dish :) And it really was very good!

I bet you wont be bringing them along anymore..:) I understand completely this is why we dont go out to eat with certain members of our family..let alone taking them to disney..

Yes, totally learned my lesson and in a HUGE way by bringing them along LOL. I like to think of it that we have good taste and they just don't! :)

Love your reviews! So sorry you had to listen to those whiners the whole vacation, what a bunch of Debbie downers! I have a serious annoyance with grown people eating like picky toddlers. :sad2:

The mahi at Coral Reef is one of my favorite meals at Disney, your review makes me want to make another trip there soon!:thumbsup2

Ya know, it kind of was WORSE than eating with picky toddlers. They eventually become satisfied with some mac n cheese or chicken nuggets or whatever...I mean, your at Disney! OPEN YOUR MIND! :headache:

You really sound like a saint for dealing with this vacation!

:lmao:

Nice review of Coral Reef, I agree the atmosphere is pretty cool in there.

For sure want to take the kiddies here next visit :)

Oh wow they're getting even worse, I can't believe they couldn't find anything they liked off the regular menu and then even complained about the kids food!!!

But of course! :dance3:

I'd have to guess she was fast because she was hoping to get rid of your BIL and SIS a bit faster ;) I work as a waitress and I'm guessing I would've felt that way. Some people seem to be determined to have a bad time and it can be frustrating when nothing you do makes them happy.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your meal; I've been nervous to make an ADR there because I've heard some not so great reviews, but maybe I'll give it a try.

Never thought of it but your probably right!

Normally I wouldn't have made an ADR here to be honest but DH loves aquariums and so does SIS so I thought it'd be a nice place for them to see. The only thing that was mediocre was the rolls. The food was up to par for sure, especially our Mahi dish ! I'd say GO FOR IT :)

Your Welcome :) ( I say this after I just went out and bought a set of 4 ramekins just for the purpose of making creme brulee LOL)

Where is the recipe?

Definitely not a MUST DO while visiting the States :)

And here is the recipe !

Its actually quite easy! I don't have a double boiler so I just used a pot with water until boiling and melted my chocolate/butter in a bowl sitting in the pot.

I also dont own ramekins so used a muffin pan as well. Perfect lil portions because they are SO rich!

Molten Chocolate Cakes

1 stick (4 ounces) unsalted butter
6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, preferably Valrhona
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
1/4 cup sugar
Pinch of salt
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Preheat the oven to 450°. Butter and lightly flour four 6-ounce ramekins. Tap out the excess flour. Set the ramekins on a baking sheet.
In a double boiler, over simmering water, melt the butter with the chocolate. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs with the egg yolks, sugar and salt at high speed until thickened and pale.
Whisk the chocolate until smooth. Quickly fold it into the egg mixture along with the flour. Spoon the batter into the prepared ramekins and bake for 12 minutes, or until the sides of the cakes are firm but the centers are soft. Let the cakes cool in the ramekins for 1 minute, then cover each with an inverted dessert plate. Carefully turn each one over, let stand for 10 seconds and then unmold. Serve immediately.

Make Ahead The batter can be refrigerated for several hours; bring to room temperature before baking.

Don't blame ya, I'd strongly advise against it now that I've lived through the nightmare :rolleyes1

So we survived yet another meal with those two and crossed over into the world showcase which I was really looking forward to! Epcot is my favorite park, I love everything about it. The smells that come from each different country, the variety of food and shops. Oddly enough my children love Epcot too. Next time we go we will probably end up staying at an Epcot resort just to be that much closer to it :)

It started to really get hot though! And with the heat often comes grumpy moods...this was no exception for BIL and Sis. I typically don't drink but once I heard the Mexican music playing I knew it was time for one of these....

Frozen Margarita with all 3 flavors. Oh, and an added shot of pomegranate liquor. Looks much better than what it tasted like. Not much flavor at all in fact the pomegranate is what saved this drink. But it cooled me off...in more ways than one LOL. Of course, after Sis had seen me with it she just HAD to have one. She ended up getting the Strawberry and of course it just didn't meet up to her standards. Apparently they didn't put enough salt around the rim. She drank it anyway so idk...

Neither one of them wanted to really do anything as far as rides/attractions go. Eventually we went through France and I figured I'd better grab my precious before it'd be too late !!! Hello house of YUMMMMMMMMM :)

So many choices and my tummy can only handle so much. I totally had plans to come back...but ended up ordering my go to favorite from the patisserie, the Napoleon !

Sis and BIL got an Eclair and Apple Turnover or something or other.

As I type this I am remembering the way the napoleon felt upon my lips. Cool, flaky and soooo creamy! Not too sweet, very clean tasting. Perfection. So, soo good. DH and I slowly enjoyed our little french dessert.

Meanwhile, over at the next table....Sis was making faces regarding her eclair. At this point I was almost studying her ability to constantly complain and just be flat out unhappy with everything. The faces she made! I wish I could have taken a picture of it. She bit into it and BIL asked how it was and she sneered and shook her head. And yet, kept eating it. :rolleyes1
She said its just not like the ones that she eats at home. As in, ones that are frozen and come in a pack from Sav A Lot, mass produced. UGH.

BIL did say his was good though.

I always love going to the Patisserie in France for an incredible dessert/snack. Everything always tastes clean and they aren't so heavy like the American desserts tend to be Its a must do for us each time we are in Epcot ! I'm just sad I couldn't eat more because I really really really wanted to try the chocolate dome looking things!! Oh well, next time :)

I must say while reading this, about 1/2 way through I wondered if you were joking. Can't imagine being so cranky in disney. Kudos to you and DH for being so patient and positive. Think it would have gotten me cranky by this point! And the bakery... Bliss. Bummer you didn't love your margarita... Fun idea with three flavors.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I told MY DH all about this thread and the mass produced Éclairs made us both howl.

I can see the maximum level of their kitchen-canned everything. NO cookbooks.

You did not get to do the boat ride in Mexico?

Just a word to the wise, if you ever decide to vacation outside of the country, don't take your BIL and Sis along they probably won't like the food wherever you go :lmao:.

Great reviews...I must say, I am starting to be glad that DH and I are only children.

I am sure your sister is lovely, but some people aren't WDW people. yikes

I am not a huge dessert eater or sweets eater either but when I am in Disney, I can get down with the goods they have. I have never found a bad dessert there, now I will only go for things I like. I don't go very adventurous on dessert. If I am going to eat dessert, I want it to be something really good. I love going to France and Germany for my desserts in Disney.

As for the sister, I love mine, but if she was like that in Disney on MY vacation, I would have gone off on her and not have spent the rest of my hard earned vacation with them. That's just me, I am no saint, and I would have had it out with her and her attitude. I give you so much credit for not going crazy!

I know I should probably be doing more reviews but instead I am going to share something with all of you, knowing that ya'll will understand where I'm coming from.

We just got back about 2 weeks ago and I am suffering from a severe case of Disney Depression:sad:

I wish I was joking more so than being dead serious. I almost wish I had a vice...smoking, drinking...etc.. lol. To help take my mind off of it ! I've turned to candy and sugar. Darn the half off Easter Candy sales and those unbeatable deals!!

Anyway...I'd like nothing more than to visit the World at Christmas time. I'm determined to make that happen!! pixiedust:

Ok, time to stop my whining. Just needed to vent!

Go for it, if you have never been there during that time of year, you will love it. DH surprised me with a B-day trip in 2009 and that was probably my most favorite family trip to WDW ever (this will be our 11th trip coming up), well besides the one we took in 2005 when we took our kids for the first time :goodvibes. If I could, I would go at that time of year every year, but ever since our 2009 trip, I haven't been able to get the time off of work, I work retail and those darn holiday hours seem to get in the way :sad2:.

PUT THE PEEPS DOWN! :grouphug:
:rotfl2:

We understand. Maybe if you start pre-pre planning you can do it. Loads of folks go after Turkey Day and before Dec. 20th. There are deals out there.
The decorations and the Grand Floridian Ginger Bread House are wonderful. The Mickey X mas party is great too. Even if this coming December is not in the cards, nobody can take plans and dreams away. :grouphug:

p.s. The internet rumors state that any post holiday 50 percent off candy purchased is fat and calorie free. Indulge and enjoy!:hyper:

We love Nov-Dec at Disney, it's so magical. Give it a try, you'll love it! Just leave your sis at home!

Love the french bakery! Even if I don't feel like dessert I always like to go in a gaze at the perfection in there!!

Bless you. I would have lost my ever loving mind on them by now with all that negativity. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your reviews!

Judas Priest- your sister sounds like one of my relatives. Nasty about anything and everything and related to Archie Bunker. I hope to goodness you had a stiff drink every night and your head examined if you decided to vacay with her again. :faint:

Please know we are here for you, and will NOT let you bring her again. I am reading your reviews and getting ideas for Sept. I appreciate you sharing with us.

p.s. seriously, Golden Corral? eeewwwww,..............

have to agree sound like my SIL. How do you make it through holidays with them LOL

Sorry, been MIA for a few. My Son, my BABY, turned 4 this past week and we had his party this weekend. :)

Anyway, it was a crazy weekend and slightly depressing....time has just gone by way too fast with these kids growing up :(

Soo....onto our Hollywood Studios day !

It was a GORGEOUS day! And DH and I (but mostly me) planned ahead of time to wear these CUTE shirts just for this very reason :cool1:

I know I can share this on here without having to justify a single thing !

Breakfast for the day was....dun dun dun....

It was a very warmmmm day! I love me some warms! I miss it so :( Anyway, it was fabulous! Hubby had his first Mickey bar! Creamy, chocolatey goodness!!! I'm not a big ice cream fan but I do love my chocolate and this combo is perfection! The fact that it is in the shape of Mickey just makes it even more so!

:lovestruc

I had booked a Brown Derby lunch ressie for us because I had been dying for their Cobb Salad since the last time I had it there. Yes, its that good. Made a 3 pm ADR for ONLY DH and I and for the Sis and BIL I booked Sci Fi. I mean, it was cheaper and basic food there so I thought it'd be safe. And I thought they'd like the theme cuz, yea, its cute.

So, we checked into BD and were seated pretty much immediately. I know this place seems to get a lot of mixed reviews but I still really like it here! It tends to be a little more quiet than other places and has a more calm feel to it. We looked over the menu even though we knew what we were going to order. It was fairly hot out so neither one of us felt like anything heavy. We split the cobb. We were also brought out very fresh, hot dinner rolls with butter.

The rolls were good. Nothing really fancy...but they were so fresh, crusty on the outside, soft on the inside and yummy! Went very well with our salad, which sadly was deconstructed prior to my photography LOL. It always arrives so pretty, though I guarantee it still tastes delicious ! Greens are always fresh, each bite had crisp bacon, lots of avocado, blue cheese, egg, turkey. I think that is part of the reason why I love this so much. Its consistent throughout the entire salad...probably because its cut up so finely. It is the perfect dish to order on a hot Florida day. Light but very filling.

The only thing bad about this meal was that I wish we had the stomachs to order more food from here. One of my the best filets I have ever ordered in WDW came from none other than BD :p

I just couldn't do it. We both were stuffed but we did finish the entire salad. I probably ate 1/3 of it, he ate the rest. Neither left hungry. Service was very good and the food here for me has always been excellent. I'd rate our little meal here a 4.5/5. And yes, I will be back! Don't listen to the negatives for Brown Derby! I think its overlooked...but that might not be a bad thing for those of us who truly LOVE it there!

I'm not one to sub on a dining review thread, but I am hooked... mostly to find out if your Sister and BIL are still alive at the end of the trip!!! :rotfl:
