"Golden Corral was our best meal" says my Sister. 8 days of yum for us, not them!

Have to say that I just love the bread service at Yachtsman's Steakhouse, that is one of the main reasons why I like to go there. I love the pull apart onion roll and what I like to do is spread some of the butter and roasted garlic on it and it tastes just like garlic bread, but better. We are going for dinner there on our upcoming trip and my mouth is watering thinking about that bread service :goodvibes. As for the entrees, I always get the filet which is wonderful there and as for dessert, I will have to try the dessert that you had, I love sampler desserts and that one looks really yummy.

BTW...awesome job on making your own Molten Lava Cake. It looks just as good as the ones you get at WDW. I have a recipe book that has a version of the molten lava cake in it that I make from time to time. Tastes just like WDW's version but I bake it as a sheet cake rather than individual size cakes.

I like cranberry too (you weirdo!) lol.

Some people just like to complain. a lot. I think my SIL and your SIL would be two peas in a pod. A pod of complaining and misery, which would likely make them happy :/

I admire you for putting up with it, and I think it's awesome you've found the strength to share your lovely meals AND give us a giggle as we read ;)

Judas Priest- your sister sounds like one of my relatives. Nasty about anything and everything and related to Archie Bunker. I hope to goodness you had a stiff drink every night and your head examined if you decided to vacay with her again. :faint:

Please know we are here for you, and will NOT let you bring her again. I am reading your reviews and getting ideas for Sept. I appreciate you sharing with us.

p.s. seriously, Golden Corral? eeewwwww,..............

Will have to try the Filet the next time we decide to go there. I think I just wasn't WOW'ed like I was the prior night at CG ;)

Thanks on the cakes...they were YUMMY but totally needed Vanilla Bean Ice Cream ! The Schawn man came a day too late LOL. They tasted very similar to WDWs. Next time I make them I want to actually have the proper molds to bake them in and try to get the middles more ooooozeeeyyy :goodvibes Is that a word? LOL

Yes, I agree...They must like living miserable lives. But thats just it, I think it does make them happy to complain so essentially they aren't unhappy then, right? :scared1:

It's better to look back and laugh at it all , the crying part was the car ride home with them!

Subbing! Going out to eat with my family proves pretty difficult too:confused3

I don't get it....lol

Yes....seriously...Golden corral.

There shall never be a next time. I don't think there is enough Alcohol or Xanax for that matter to put up with another trip like this one!

Glad you are enjoying the reviews! Thanks everyone!

After our nice dinner at Yachtsman we headed back over to the Magic Kingdom. Thankfully the crowds had died down a bit and we were able to finally get some rides in! Since DH had never been to WDW before I wanted to make sure he got to get on some of my FAVs and the classics. We hit the Magic Carpets,Pirates, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan and then...yes, the ride that has scarred him for life now he claims...Small World. :rotfl:

The look on his face was priceless. I have a picture but he'd kill me if I posted it. Ah, it was funny....

Anyway, We headed over to tomorrowland after. Space Mountain was next on my agenda. Wait time was minimal and we figured it'd probably be the last ride of the night for us so we took advantage of it. And how lucky was DH, he got the FRONT SEAT!! Oh he wasn't as thrilled about it as I was though hehe.

Lets just say he didn't like being able to see what his fate was with this ride.

So, after a bunch of walking and trying to cram the rides into the night I was in the need of something. Something salty. Something bad for you. French Fries.

We stopped at Cosmic Rays since BIL and SIS were already in there sitting and grabbed a side of fries. Now, I didn't know they had the toppings bar here because I don't do a lot of QS. However, since I no longer have a gallbladder I figured what the heck...lets try a side of cheese sauce! I think it was 1 a.m. ish (EMH night) and the fries were sooo totally not fresh. But whatever, dipped in mounds of ketchup or dunked and coated with cheese sauce it didn't matter to me LOL. DH and I split one order and we were good to go! Don't have a pic of the fries guys, we ate them really fast !

I can't really complain because the parks were nearing closing time and the girls were all really nice to us. It was getting very COLD out too and the heat was working LOVELY in there ! That was the FIRST time I've noticed the heat being on while at WDW, mostly due to the times of year we visit. It dropped into the low 40's while we were there.:scared1:

Bwahaha! Your thread made me laugh out loud. Have gone to Disney World with my sister & her husband several times- luckily, we're all fun & love the magic. So sorry your sis & bil were wet blankets. We actually ate at Golden Coral one night on our last trip- we had one of those nights where we hit the wall & were all starving but nobody knew what they wanted and it was right there. Our food was shockingly good but it was mass chaos inside. My bil was facing the dessert area when he gets this weird expression on his face, looks at the kids & says "no one is getting anything from the chocolate fountain". Then they came on the PA remind people to supervise their kids in the bathroom & at the chocolate fountain. Apparently someone was washing their hands in chocolate. Ewwww.

Love your restaurant reviews & photos!

Oh c'mon! I want to see the small world picture!! :)

That cheese sauce is the silver lining to DH's love of cosmic rays and pecos bills for me.

I'm dying about some of the complaints. You got a free dessert? The horror! So sorry that was the general mood for your trip! Looking forward to the rest of your reviews :).

Would love the recipe for the molten lava cakes you made! Or, just let me know some key words to google?

Enjoying the review - I can't imagine how frustrating it must have been to try to show SIL and BIL your love for WDW, and have them wearing their 'cranky pants,' as my kids call it.

Its actually quite easy! I don't have a double boiler so I just used a pot with water until boiling and melted my chocolate/butter in a bowl sitting in the pot.

I also dont own ramekins so used a muffin pan as well. Perfect lil portions because they are SO rich!

Molten Chocolate Cakes

1 stick (4 ounces) unsalted butter
6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, preferably Valrhona
2 eggs
2 egg yolks
1/4 cup sugar
Pinch of salt
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Preheat the oven to 450°. Butter and lightly flour four 6-ounce ramekins. Tap out the excess flour. Set the ramekins on a baking sheet.
In a double boiler, over simmering water, melt the butter with the chocolate. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs with the egg yolks, sugar and salt at high speed until thickened and pale.
Whisk the chocolate until smooth. Quickly fold it into the egg mixture along with the flour. Spoon the batter into the prepared ramekins and bake for 12 minutes, or until the sides of the cakes are firm but the centers are soft. Let the cakes cool in the ramekins for 1 minute, then cover each with an inverted dessert plate. Carefully turn each one over, let stand for 10 seconds and then unmold. Serve immediately.

Make Ahead The batter can be refrigerated for several hours; bring to room temperature before baking.

Hope you enjoy them!!! Post a pic for us :thumbsup2

Thanks! Glad you are enjoying them! And...OMG that is gross!!! Part of what turns me away from Golden Corral is that it IS like a Zoo! I don't like fighting with people over food, when I go out I like to be served LOL. The honey wheat rolls there are good though.

lol, it was funny to see his face afterwards thats for sure!

I dont really like cheese but I would like to install a cheese pump in my kitchen stocked with that stuff!! Caseys Corner had the cheese too!

Today was our Epcot day (1 of 2) and it was a beautiful, sunny day out! DH always thought Epcot was only "that big golf ball" but now I could finally show him that its SOOO much more!

We didn't arrive there until after 11, so it was already pretty busy but nothing like the Magic Kingdom was yesterday. We hit Test Track, Nemo ride, and possibly a few more things but stayed on that side as we had a 3 pm Lunch reservation. I think I ate a handful of granola that morning so even I was pretty hungry by the time we checked in.

I've never been here due to the negative reviews and such so I was a little skeptical. I asked the guy at check in if we could please have an aquarium table and told him about sis' Bday (unbirthday until 2 more days) and our "happily ever after". In about 10 minutes our buzzer went off and we were seated! Here was our table...

View inside Coral Reef

I was really glad they sat us here! Hopeful that my SIS wouldn't keep complaining and that DH would enjoy it since he likes Fish/Aquariums. Our waitress was nice, once again she had to put up with the other two asking for "normal" food. My Sister was not happy at all, she wanted a "real" salad with ONLY french dressing. Real as in iceberg lettuce . What does that make the other (better for you) salad greens!?

Bread service was brought out while they still pondered and for not liking the bread they were always the ones who grabbed it first. They said they were hard as rocks. Now, I will agree the bread service here was MEH. Just crusty basic rolls and pretty plain tasting.

Neither one could find anything on the menu and out of frustration I just told them to check the kids menu and order a plain chicken breast and mac n cheese. So, that is what they did basically.

During our wait for food the scuba divers came in!!! Only once per day do they do this so we really did get a treat. Lots of fish to look at and a shark swam by. I'll admit, it was cool even though I'm not a fish/aquatic lover :)

Dinner was brought out hot and fresh...We got the Mahi with Shrimp and Jasmine rice in a coconut sauce.

The fish was cooked perfectly. Mild, flaky and seasoned good. Shrimps were tiny and not overcooked. The rice was different, I'm unfamiliar with the hearts of palm they put it the rice...It was slightly sour and almost tasted pickled. It was good, just different. The coconut sauce on the fish was excellent! Really a good dish. DH agreed, he thought it was very good as well.

Across the table on the other hand, were two unhappy campers. They both ordered the kids grilled chicken and sides. BIL got brocolli and he said it was not cooked enough and that his chicken was old. Sis had gotten the grilled chicken and rice for her side. Big mistake for her because she did not want the rice now once she saw BILs mashed potatoes. Poor waitress got called back to the table and BIL sent his chicken back and Sis ended up trading out her rice for mashed potatoes. Like, seriously she started complaining even before we walked in the restaurant after she read the menu.

They brought out new food for them and they still weren't happy.

Well, too bad for them because I was ready to try a dessert. Before I could choose which one to pick the waitress dropped off two of these at our table!!

BIL and SIS got one too. Thankfully because I was still hearing it from our first night freebie lol.

Yes, it is as yummy as it looks. The cake was rich, decadent and melted in your mouth! I really liked the tart of the raspberry against the sweet richness of the chocolate. Combined together it was quite perfect! We ate it all. YUMMMM. And lookie here, another free dessert!

I would go back to Coral Reef again, just so the kids could see it! Food was very good probably a 4/5. Waitress was nice but a little fast with things I felt. We enjoyed dining here. Loved the decor and lights as well!

Judas Priest you cannot get a break. I would have flung them both in the tank by now. ::yes::

I have now decided that I should try Coral Reef. I have hesitated because I thought I would feel guilty, eating a relative of something swimming.

I got over it after seeing your dish. :goodvibes

I bet you wont be bringing them along anymore..:) I understand completely this is why we dont go out to eat with certain members of our family..let alone taking them to disney..

Love your reviews! So sorry you had to listen to those whiners the whole vacation, what a bunch of Debbie downers! I have a serious annoyance with grown people eating like picky toddlers. :sad2:

The mahi at Coral Reef is one of my favorite meals at Disney, your review makes me want to make another trip there soon!:thumbsup2

Nice review of Coral Reef, I agree the atmosphere is pretty cool in there.

Oh wow they're getting even worse, I can't believe they couldn't find anything they liked off the regular menu and then even complained about the kids food!!!

Waitress was nice but a little fast with things I felt.

I'd have to guess she was fast because she was hoping to get rid of your BIL and SIS a bit faster ;) I work as a waitress and I'm guessing I would've felt that way. Some people seem to be determined to have a bad time and it can be frustrating when nothing you do makes them happy.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your meal; I've been nervous to make an ADR there because I've heard some not so great reviews, but maybe I'll give it a try.
