DVC X RunDisney

Ahh yes, as a self-proclaimed complete couch blob magpie who was intrigued by medals and more excuses for Disney trips (but literally couldn’t jog 1/2 a mile without dying), I too signed up for a 10K for my first ever race last year for MW 2025… It’s a trap folks. Next you find yourself signed up for multiple race weekends and multiple challenges all cause the “vibes were amazing” and you got a shiny cute medal and on a high decided you could do it again and push further.

May as well train for the 10miler @Brian Noble, you’ll already be prepared for the 10K by the time you finish training. And the 5K is literally walkable so no need to train for that one or strain yourself. And then you get multiple medals…I told you it’s a trap.

The 10 miler starts at five. It doesn’t end then. Also that’s when the first wave starts. I won’t be in that one.

I think the half I ran at WDW I probably didn’t start until 40-ish minutes after official start time.

Wow. Is that typical? Because of the large number of runners?

I believe Disney starts theirs that early bc of the heat. FWIW, this the time you have to start making your way to Staten Island for the NYC Marathon due to the crowds (so I’d much rather be rising and shining at that hour in WDW 😎)
I'm not used to running race with that many participants. Wow.

give it a chance… the weather ain’t that bad - even if you start in the latest corral, say 6am and ended up being the last person to cross at 9ish am..

It is about 10k participants, starting in groups of about 500-800ish people, it doesn't feel crowded until certain particular points in the courses (ie boardwalk sidewalk)…

The atmosphere, the logistics, the entertainment are super good …

I think it usually takes about an hour to let everyone out (definitely for the marathon, which is more closely monitored due to required pace, probably close to it for shorter races). A handful of big corrals, which are then split up into mini-waves. Yes, it's a lot of people, but they also need to control the flow so there isn't too much crowding on the courses.

As for the temperature, it does get hot for a run, and as a result this race weekend is easily the slowest to fully sell out. The ten miler by itself might take several months to sell out, all of the other races sell out on the same day.
