My Mom and I try to make tamales every year during Thanksgiving weekend--so that we can freeze them and have them for dinners and parties over Christmas. Our "record" was 380 tamales when I lived in Utah and had a big party (140 people!) at my house. Yes, they were all eaten! LOL

They are not hard to make--just time consuming. We usually cook the meat a day or two ahead (it's easier to shred when it is cold) then mix it with sauce and assemble the tortillas one day. We freeze them raw because they are better (in our opinion) when steamed fresh.

We got my son a Wii last Christmas and play Mario Kart a lot! Do you know we could play online together? I need to remind Callie of that, since she how has Mario Kart! I still need to get the Wii Fit!

Ssssh! I'm sneaking on at work! ;)

I have a Wii, and have Wiifit. I really like it.

I also have Mario Kart and love it! DH and I race each other all the time.

How do you play each other online? I need to hook my wii up to the computer. Haven't figured it out yet.

Hello chatty ladies! I've been out of the loop for a couple of days and had to go back and read 15+ pages to catch up!

Regarding Club 33 merchandise, I bought a pair of champagne flutes and snagged a stack of the paper napkins from the bathroom when we were there several years ago.

Also we'll be in DLR the 19-23, so if anybody else is going to be there, let me know. Maybe we can hook up for a bit.

I wanna play too! I finally got Mario Kart, but I am SO not good at it.

Hey, big moment for me. I figured out how to multi-quote! There is no stopping me now:woohoo:

Hope you all have a great day!
:cool1: Good for you!! As for the 5 year old, doesn't he like cookies and cartoons?? That should buy you five minutes of alone time. :lmao:

My christmas shopping is all done and gift wrapped:santa:

i just have to decide what i'm going to bake/cook for the holiday season.

Tamales for sure. { some red chili pork} { some green chili chicken} { and refried bean and asado cheese with a strip of long green chili}

Cut out sugar cookies with handpainted buttercream frosting

fudge with and without nuts

rock candy

peanut brittle

cheese balls

hhmmmm... i need to get to work getting recipes together and making grocery lists.:upsidedow
OMG, are you really Martha Stewart???? :scared1:

Hi ladies! I hope you are all having a good day so far. I've been cleaning all morning long. From 7 a.m. until about 10 minutes ago, and I'm pooped and smell like bleach. Ick.

All this talk of tamales makes me hungry! My MIL used to make them every year during the Christmas season. Now she found a great little place in L.A. that makes them just as good so she wised up and buys them. :rotfl: I'm not a big meat eater, so I prefer the chile and cheese ones.
Darn, now I'm really craving one..... :rolleyes1

Wendy, I found something for you! :lmao: Maybe you can go to the mall and ask Santa. :santa:

Holy Tamale thats a lot!!
Hey I grew up in Utah. In Brigham City. Then moved to WA in 7th grade.

Thanks for posting that recipe, I've never made them but would love to try! I have a friend who makes them every Christmas, she is making them this Saturday, apparently it's an all-day family thing. She shares, so that's good, too!!

I did not know that. That would be so fun!!
We have Xbox 360. the kids got it last year from my ex for Christmas, but I have never bought XBOX live for it.

I get a $150 gift card this month from work. I have worked here for 10 yrs.
I can't believe I have been here since I was 20.
So I am using that to purchase most of it.
Then I am going to get them games for Christmas.

Another tamale family! My family (mom's side) has a tradition day (which my immediate family started with my grandma:snooty: I feel very special about that :cutie:) and we arrive early (around 4-5am) to my grandma's house about a week before Christmas and she usually has hot chocolate and mexican bread waiting for us. We talk a bit and end up falling asleep around 7-8am. Then we get up again around 10-11am and have our tradition day breakfast (chorizo and eggs) and get to work. We have an assembly line. Since my grandma has 11 grandkids + their gf/bfs(1 great grandkid) we set up a tamale factory. We also bake tons of stuff, play video games and watch a Charlie Brown Christmas, it's a wonderful life, Holiday Inn, & White Christmas. It's a great time.

My grandma makes them too spicy so we always have sour cream on hand.

You all are hurting my head with your good ideas/creativity and having stuff done and family traditions. I'm green with envy, really I am. I wish I can be 1/4 as awesome as all of you!

It's just not fair!

I'm still in the starting process. :sad2:

But you will be happy to know that I finally finished cutting out the aprons. Marked and pinned the darts too. Now I just have to turn the machine on. :rolleyes1 But first I have to make a sash for my youngest DD's first formal dance this Saturday. :goodvibes :sad1: We bought the dress, but want to add some pizzaz. Anyways, can't believe that my baby is old enough for these next steps of her life. :sad1:

That sounds like such a wonderful day. :goodvibes

It's really great but then we are exhausted by 8pm:lmao:

My immediate family (mom, dad, sisters, me) has a New Year's day brunch. We invite our family, church, and friends. This past year my cousin stayed at our house the ENTIRE day. As well as many other people. They got there around 10am for brunch. Upstairs the adults were conversating and downstairs we were playing Wii, Xbox, Ps2. We had so many people there. Around 3-4 people are still there so my dad runs down to vallarta (mexican market) and buys a whole tray of tacos. I believe most people stayed until 8pm:lmao:
It's awesome.

I agree! I'm totally jealous. I have quite a few horror stories about holiday time with my family. Every year something bad always happens. Will one of you steal me and let me join you for the holidays?

SURE! We have so many people in our family, no one would notice an extra body!

Jordansmom.. wouldn't that be fun to be able to have a disboard christmas party..but i'd want it caterered so we could enjoy it:lmao:

QueenBillaBong... here is the recipe i use everyyear.. i think it's a SUPERGREAT recipe.
http://www.sonofthesouth.net/tamales/Tamale_Recipe.htm

what i like about it, is that it is organised.. broken down into clear instructions.. and they come out tasting really really good.

As for the fillings i mentioned.. i just take some Herdes green sauce bottle or can mix it with a roasitarie chicken deboned and maybe grate in a little asado {white mexican cheese}.. and the refried beans.. i buy some charro beans at a local mexican eattery then refry them..grate some asado cheese.. and lay slices of freshly roasted hatch green chili's over the masa.

so the bean ones are layered in application.
the chicken ones are a mixture with the green chili chicken and cheese.
and the roast pork are instructed in the link provided.

If *i* can make that tamale recipe..anyone can.

Plus it's really nice to be able to go into the freezer and pull out a bag of tamales ..lay them in the fridge..make some chili con queso.. and a pot of beans or rice for a yummy dinner.

Ooh, thank you so much! Where I live, it is quite hard to find good tamales (some not so good ones, yes, but even those are hard to find). We live right by a Mexican restaurant that we like, but they don't do tamales :sad2:

I am so going to have to try this. My family may faint if I spend a whole day cooking (and then my hubby would want to eat them all right NOW ;)

Thanks again!!

Join the club. When I was little my family and extended family used to do a lot together, But once a lot of the grandkids hit preteen age, everything changed. There's just soooo much drama and gossip, so I try to stay away . Believe it or not, I'm actually one of the most normal people in my family .

Last Thanksgiving and this Easter I was in WDW to avoid the family get togethers. This Christmas, I'll probably be in labor or have a newborn so that will be my excuse .
