I just went through this with our gas company. Our bill normally is around 30-40 dollars and we got one for 360. Luckily we don't do auto bill pay. They had recently replaced the meter because they said it wasn't working. The workers that replaced it took the reading off all the old meter. It took several phone calls, home inspections, and numerous talks with supervisors. Our account was put on hold for 2 months. It finally got resolved and they charged us 44 dollars for the month. They never were able to determine how much gas we used for the month, but based the amount on last years bill. My advice to you would be ask for a supervisor right away. Don't bother with the people that answer the phone. They are useless.
If you do keep using auto pay. I would use a credit card over your bank account.

Our electric bill is about $45 for most of the year. For about three months in summer, it will go up to $70-$90, depending on how much we have the AC on. We live in a 2,300sf condo. We get a bill notification, and then our credit card is charged a couple of weeks later on AutoPay. Similar to our gas bill ($30-$35/month), because we're just responsible for cooking gas; our HOA payment covers our radiator heat.

We’ll for the most part the issue is fixed. We weren’t charged for the new meter as some suggested.
I don’t think I can honestly explain it but as long as hubby understands it it’s fine.
The 58$ seems to be what we were charged versus should have been charged. We’ll get an updated bill next time

My credit score is 832 I'm not too worried about boosting it. I pay all my bills with Credit cards which alternate depending on wether I'm working on a sign on bonus or I need more points or miles in a certain area.

That's for the gas bill. Not electric. We never use our heater. Our electric is high in the Summer.

that would kill me the worst bill we got was last year at this time for $456 b/c our heat pump had an issue and the part was on back order. this year despite a 12.5% price increase per kwh our most recent was $331. we are all electric for heat/ac.

In the end your are still paying the same amount over the course of a year.

Yes. It's just without the wild swings up and down. We're in NJ and our gas & electric is combined on one bill. So in winter, gas is high and electric is low. In summer, electric is high and gas is low. So in winter and summer, we underpay each month. In spring and fall we overpay.
