Getting upset about our purchase... OLD POST

Shan ~
Don't doubt your decision. I get the feeling you haven't stayed there yet ? I'm sure you will come to realize that your decision to join DVC and make BCV your home resort was a positive one once you have your first visit there. For one thing, you've got use of the best pool on site. And also, you can try out and stay at other DVC resorts as well over the years. I just recently stayed at BWV which is not my home resort & we enjoyed ourselves very much there.
Even though I own at OKW (and love it), I have friends I work with that have their home resort at VWL and BCV. We're all very happy with our DVC resorts just as I'm sure you will be. I think some people just overanalyze some things and this gets magnified here on the boards. I don't doubt though that there are some legitimate complaints (about all the resorts) here and there, but don't let these small things make you regret your purchase. BCV is a beautiful resort. I believe there have been negative issues brought up about all the DVC resorts on these boards. But when you really get down to it, we're all very lucky to be part of the DVC family. ::yes::

After our Labor Day trip, I knew these boards had gotten the better of me when I found myself looking for wristbands on the other swimmers at SAB!

I love all the info on these boards and the experience is great to have at your fingertips, but I for one soak things up like a sponge and I was still on "board" mode for the first days of our vacation.
I was scoping for problems and my DH and DS's were oblivious as they don't read the boards.

Reading negative reports, can make you even more negative and critical when your on your own vacation. Not saying the reports are not relevant or appreciated, but each individual responds to things differently and if they give you anxiety, then cut back for a while. Express your concerns to DVC and relax.

These boards definitely provide a wealth of Info and I would not have purchased DVC without all the info because I take everything that a sales person tells me with a grain of salt.

I do believe BC/YC/BCV is going through growing pains, as we had legitimate housekeeping/front desk/Bell Service issues when we stayed at BC hotel over labor day weekend. They may be understaffed, mismanaged, or overwhelmed.

We still enjoyed ourselves immensely and will return. I still bought BCV when we got back from our trip because there is nowhere else we'd rather be with a burned out lightbulb or cobwebs or nicks or scrapes or whatever is the faux pas du jour.

I'd rather be on these boards than anywhere else besides WDW but when Im more worried about what kind of food to take to the park (may be over the top?) or how to pool hop without hurting people's feelings, than having a good time with my family at the happiest place on earth, then it's time to take a break.

Shan: Your purchased DVC to have a great time with your family. Stop worrying about what you read on these boards. Much of it is said in jest anyway. Have fun planning your trips but stop worrying so much about the small things that are out of your control. I have stayed at the BCV once and had a great time. I have two reservations and my sister has two reservations for New Year's. We expect to have a great time then too.

Good luck.

LOL Pam!!!! Too funny! :p

And too accurate!

Seems a shame for all these negative reports, I just can't believe they let BCV go so quickly downhill according to these posts. It is still so new!

Shan....describing BCV as "run down" or "in need of major attention" is a joke. Period.

You've made a great investment....the vast majority of DVC ownesr on this board state that their ONLY regret is that they didn't buy sooner. Enjoy planning your vacations, and frankly you might just want to stay away from this board for a few months because it's the negatives that draw the most attention.:)

Granny, are you trying to tell me something? ;)

Really, I appreciate all the comments and I'm thankful nobody so far has gotten on to me. :teeth:

This thread has made me feel better. Thanks everyone! :goodvibes

I must admit I'm used to the Holiday Inn. My Dad has worked for them since I was a baby and EVERY vacation we stayed at one, including all trips to WDW. (Although, I know I was lucky my parents wanted to take us to WDW so often!) It wasn't until I met my husband that he convinced me to spend the extra money and stay onsite. Since then I've been hooked and have even gotten my Mom convinced that onsite is better even with the huge discount at good ole' Holiday Inn! So my expectations aren't really that high cause all the WDW resorts seem wonderful to me, but I suppose I let all the threads I've been reading get the best of me.

True, I can go to any part of WDW and see differences in the way things look compared to years ago when I think a little more attention to detail was given, but in the scheme of things WDW is still wonderful and better than my local Six Flags any day.

So I will chill................. :smooth:

We're owners at BCV and have stayed there 3 times already in every size room (Studio, 1BR, 2BR). We're also going back this weekend, leaving Saturday for our 4th trip there. So far, we have not had any negative issues at all beyond normal resort things that you find at any hotel anywhere. We love the BCV and it's almost always our 1st choice of resorts when we begin to plan a new trip. In fact, we are splitting our stay this trip between BCV and VWL because we booked late. I got a call yesterday saying that our waitlist had come through for the VWL if we wanted to have our entire stay there instead of moving. After talking to my wife, we decided that we did not want to give up our 3 days at the BCV, so we kept the split stay (even though I'll have to move all of stuff and vehicle). That should tell you what we think of the BCV.

We have stayed at every DVC resort on property and can honestly say that we feel there is no difference in the upkeep of any of the 4. In fact, the biggest issue I've ever had was at the BWV, which is a favorite for many people.

Don't be swayed by the negativity you find on these boards at times. Some people live to complain and will do it no matter where they are. On the other hand, I'm sure there are some legitimate complaints, but that happens anywhere. We'll be there soon and I'll give an honest account of our trip when we get back.

This about these things:

Location: One of the Best at WDW and I think the best at DVC. This is the most important thing in any real estate transaction.

SAB: Best Pool in WDW

Boardwalk: Great Restaurants and Beautiful, one of the most magical places in WDW.

EPCOT: The place is walking distance from Engalnd and France. You can watch Illuminations every Night. This is in my opinion the best Disney park. With many new atttactions coming. This could be a seperate thread but MK is a museum compared to EPCOT.

I don't want to cut on other resorts but I am sure you will find a lifetime of dreams and meemories.

We just got back from our first BWV stay as owners - and the closest I've ever been to the Epcot resorts area previously was the pastry shop in France! Here is what I discovered. By the way, when I say "the boards" I don't mean to generalize, this was a perception, and I know that some of these comments come from a few people persistantly.

The boards said LONG HALLWAYS! We weren't too far down, but I took a walk all the way down the hallway to discover just how long the hallway was. Yep, long. Unreasonably long, no. I wouldn't have been disappointed at the far end.

The boards said TINY ROOMS! We had plenty of space, were able to use the balcony with the hideabed pulled out. Would more room be nice - sure, but we thought what we had was plenty.

The board said "MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET A SMOKING ROOM - THEY STINK!" Well, although I requested it, I forgot checking in to make sure and I got a smoking room. But I didn't notice it until I noticed that some doors had the non-smoking sign and mine didn't.

The board said "DON'T GET A HANDICAPPED ROOM." Well we did. And you know what - not a big deal. Really. I can see where a studio handicapped room with small children and no tub might be a problem, but with a one bedroom, you still have the jaccuzzi.

The board said "THE BUSES WERE HORRIBLE." Well, they were crowded - but the senior ladies I traveled with both were given seats by nice people on EE morning to the MK. The buses were prompt. And they were no more crowded than any other resort I've stayed at - sometimes I've just been lucky enough to be the first stop instead of the last. I remember the same too long wait at the AK last trip - only it was the WL I was trying to get to, not the BW.

The board said "GET A BW VIEW - WONDERFUL!" Well, we had one, and it was nice - but I won't go out of my way to get another one. Kind of noisy, the view was fine, but not incredible, and the balcony on the room was enclosed, so we couldn't people watch unless we were standing - not that anyone was out when we were using our balcony anyway - the Boardwalk is great for people watching at night - when I was out, it was six in the morning and two people strolled by. Different strokes - what some people see as THE reason for staying at BWV wasn't our thing.

The board said "HATE THE POOL - SCARY CLOWN" We thought he was kind of cute - and not as dominant as the photos made him out to be. I'm lobbying for a SV next trip - save some points so we can take guests the following trip, and my husband WANTS to look at the scary clown.

The board said "WELCOME HOMES ARE IMPORTANT" Didn't get one, didn't care. Had it happened, I'm sure it would have been nice, but it didn't, and I didn't think about that at all either. Had I not read the boards and realized it was a big deal, I wouldn't even have known it was missing.

The board said "TRASH IN THE HALLWAYS" I noticed trash once, and it was obviously the cleaning crew (the cart was right there and the door was open and the vaccuum cleaner running).

Don't get yourself worked up and make up your own mind. If you get there and you decide that you'd rather be at SSR, its a big resort, you'll be able to swap in at seven months. If you decide you really want a different home, sell and rebuy....

Relax. Most of us hold Disney to a performance standard that is far above what we expect from most other organizations. The posts I have read, and the one I posted, do not indicate that there are major problems, only that Disney did not perform to its normal level.

We had a great time on our October visit, love the resort, can't wait to return (in fact have more trips already planned for BCV). And yes, we did report a problem concerning housekeeping. But it in no way interfered with our enjoyment of the trip or the resort (and we reported it as such).

BCV is a well designed, well built, well run resort. I would take a bad day for Disney above a great day anywhere else. There is that much difference in the standards of performance.

We have been going to WDW for 25 years, have stayed at almost every on-site resort and will be going more often in the future.

don't listen to anybodt but yourself.i've been trying to but bcv but dvc is all sold out and nothing is on the resale market.now what does that say to you?sounds good to me!i'll tell you what,i'll take your bcv points off you when ever you're ready.enjoy it .it looks like a fabulous place!

LOL! Sounds like the trip where I swear my DSIL was trying to find every flaw mentioned in the "Unofficial Guide to WDW". She didn't seem to enjoy anything except finding things the guide had "warned" about and experiencing them. If you look for just the negatives you'll find them. ;)

Good post Liferbabe. A reminder to exprience our vacations, not just research them!

Shan... STOP! STOP! STOP Stressing. I have been to BCV 4 times since it opened and it was no different 2 weeks ago than it was the first time I went. Soooo... if you liked BCV when you rented points you should love it when you go as an owner!

In my opinion every stay so far has been perfect. Yes, there were some minor things, like light bulbs burnt out, but that was taking care of with a phone call. The last time we were there, we only had 1 package of dishwashing soap and every other time we have had 2 or 3, so after we used that one, I called down and they brought up 1 more. I was kind of surprised that they only brought 1, but they the next day during our full housekeeping the maid left 4 of them. It was kind of funny! Surely nothing to get upset over.

Someone else mentioned cobwebs. The first time we were there I went on to the balcony and their were dead bugs on the ground and spider webs on the railings. I grabbed the broom and swept all the bugs and cleaned up all the spider webs. The next moring there were more dead bugs and more spider webs. Was that anyones fault? Was there anything BCV could have done about that? I really don't think so, not a big deal. Its outside and its Florida.

I think you will love the BCV as long as you don't expect absolutely everything to be perfect, light bulbs burn out, spiders make spiderwebs over night, TV's and VCRs die, as long as all these issues are taking care of in a timely manner which mine were you should have as wonderful a time at BCV as I have!

Your post is one of the big reasons why I get very concerned with some of the unsubstaniated crap that's posted negatively about a resort that doesn't fall under the heading of a trip report or legitimate problem (whether a couple of posters are "insulted" by this or not.)

BCV is a beautiful resort. It is also one of the most criticised. Some of that criticism was induced by DVC limiting pool hopping priviledges to SAB which has caused a bit of a 'bashing' backlash. DO a search on pool hopping at SAB and read some of the non-sense and you'll see int coming through in other posts as well. If there is a bit of a maintenance and cleanliness gap right now, that is a management issue that can be corrected, and is capable of traveling to any DVC resort over the next 35 years. It won't last long, the person in charge won't be able to keep thier job if it goes too much longer.

Our trips there have been absolutely wonderful. Visit all the resorts for yourself and compare. Stick with the decision you made and try it out for a few years. If your absolutely convinced you want to change, you can sell your current contract on the resale market and purchase another resort contract and not cost you too much financially. The markets will even out between resorts a bit down the road. Sit out on the beach in one of those porch swings and think about it one night while staying at the BCV. I'll bet you won't want to switch.

I don't think there's much to be worried about. Even if the BCV don't get their act together (and I have no doubt that they will straighten things out), your points can be used at SSR, OKW, BWV. and WLV without any trouble. So even in the absolute worst case you still have 4 other terrific onsite resorts to choose from.

And I'd like to point out that positive "crap" is every bit as unsubstantiated as negative "crap." So you don't want to overreact to anything you read here. It's all crap, apparently.

The negative posts seem to get the most "headlines". There are plenty of positive reports, but they are either never read or never even written! Don't listen to most of it. Some people, I think, just try to get a rise out of everyone. Don't let them get to you. Everyone's experience is different, every time you go is different, everyone expects different things, etc. etc. etc. If I beleived everything I read on this board I would have sold my points years ago. Most times my hubby and I just laugh, we know how it really is. You will too.

Stop stressing and enjoy your DVC membership!!

Yeah, stop stressing and don't give those tiny, filthy rooms another thought, you'll be in DISNEY!!!!

Shan,

I understand how bitter you must feel, and how much hurt you must feel about your purchase. How dare Disney mislead you into buying at the BCV!! Those awful tiny, tiny rooms, not even to mention how dirty the can be!!

Tell you what I can do for you, heh, I'M a NICE GUY:smooth: , I'll take that contract off your hands and I will bare the burden for you, so you and your family can enjoy....other accomadations. I'll do this for no charge:smooth: :smooth: :smooth: .

Joe in CT

Wow, thanks Joe in CT.
That is awfully sweet of you, but I think I'll pass........... :wave2:
