Getting upset about our purchase... OLD POST

Yeah, stop stressing and don't give those tiny, filthy rooms another thought, you'll be in DISNEY!!!!
I'll have to admit, I got a chuckle out of this one.

We stayed at BCV (our home resort) for the first time in June and we LOVED it!!! The location was great and the room was clean. The only problem we had was a slow draining sink and someone was knocking on the door to unclog it within 2 minutes! I couldn't believe it! Don't fret about what people say. Remember that people are more apt to write a negative post than a positive one. Unfortunately, that's human nature! Annmarie

I think some of the criticism is human nature, kind of like rooting for the home team. Some people seem hyper sensitive picking apart a particular resort to justify the decision they made. I’m glad all the resorts have a different theme, each one offers something unique. I wouldn’t have joined DVC if I was locked into my home resort.

Just another BCV owner with nothing but great things to say about our two stays there.

But there is a difference. We don't happen to go to WDW looking for problems. If they find us, we deal with them as they happen. Mistakes happen - even at Disney.

I think you will find that how your stay goes will greatly depend on your own attitude. Even though our family expects great things from Disney, we don't specifically LOOK for trouble. Its annoying enough when it finds us on vacation. WHY would I want to track it down?? :D

Go - have fun - and look forward to many, many more trips! And if you decide BCV isn't for you, you'll be able to move those points in a heartbeat and buy in at SSR for those extra ten years. Myself, I wouldn't give up BCV for 20 extra years someplace else! (Oh- and I feel the same way about VWL - We love both our 'homes'!)

All the resorts are great in thier own way. Not everyone is a DVC person though. I would agree that you should relax and expect you to truly enjoy your experiences with DVC. Each and every resort has their flaws, pointing those out OR the individual condition of a single room should not bother you or the other owners at that resort. Some are just too sensitive about "their" resort and take anything that is somewhat negatifve about "their" resort as personal and an attack on the resort itself. Sometimes it's like you're talking about their mother or something like that. Go, stay, enjoy and if after a 2 or 3 visits you're not happy, then consider selling.

We own at BCV and have had nice times there, but it is not my favorite DVC. I just love OKW, and also the Wilderness Lodge. I have yet to have problems getting reservations at either of these resorts -- it just requires planning. So even though you own at BCV, you are not limited to staying there. I realize that at some points, BCV may be all I CAN get -- if we ever go at Christmas, for example -- but then I realize that a day at Beach Club is WAY better than a day NOT on vacation... I guess I am just saying "keep it all in perspective." DVC is really flexible!

327 votes about "which DVC resort is the victim of more unfair resort "criticism", "negative comments" or "resort bashing" (given many comments are good natured ribbing, or poking fun)?" and they are all wrong, too sensative, or overreacting.

Interesting.

There's some pretty clear evidence that unfair resort "criticism", "negative comments" or "resort bashing" exists. Try BCV for yourself and then decide.

Captain, you know this has gone on for years on these boards. It is just, unfortuanately BCV who is on the chopping block right now. I am sure SSR will take it's place quite soon.
All hotels/resorts have problems especially when they are first learning to crawl/walk. I honestly can say that Disney maintains all it's resorts to a much higher standard then the majority of other resorts do. We are so used to Disney always being so above everyone else that often Disney gets criticized for things that would be accepted and expected at other hotels.
Bottom line there is no doubt BCV is a top notch resort. It is part of one of Disney's top of the line resort complexes located in a prime, prime location and it is a beautiful resort! HELLO!
I was just at BCV a little over 3 weeks ago and I certainly felt as though I was staying in a very deluxe and top of the line resort.

Shan, I believe you made the right choice - with SAB, boardwalk nearby and close to Epcot it is a great resort - no better or worse than the other great DVC resorts on WDW property - they all have their positive and negative attributes which are different for all of us as we view the resorts through our own personal lens.

I cannot wait for your first trip report....mine will be end of Jan/04

Thanks

Don't hit the panic button yet. I have stayed at OKW, BW and BCV and loved them, all. Sorry but I don't want to get dragged into the "which is best argument"; suffice it to say that each had elements I really loved and all were wonderful trips. Don't forget you have the option of trying other DVC properties. I have been successful at the seven month window thus far. The BCV stay was a two bedroom unit just this past August. THe rooms were really nice, very rich looking, and not a single thing was broken or missing or a problem at all! Everyone loved Stormalong Bay, Beaches and Cream and the atmosphere of the area. The check-in was smooth, trouble-free, though I ahve to be honest and say the desk person who helped us was an old time OKW person who had recently switched to wotrking at BCV!

Get over that buyer's remorse and look forward to many years of wonderful trips! Congratulations!!!

Hey, maybe I can have the dubious honor of the first ever SSR Bashing Post. Let's see ....

We just bought into SSR and went to check it out when we were there a few weeks ago - and boy, were we disappointed! First of all, we couldn't even drive to the buildings - the place was filled with construction traffic and mud. We even tried to walk from DTD, but they wouldn't let us in - and we're owners! When we were finally able to take a look, the problems were apparent all the the way from PI: some units didn't have doors, or windows; others had scaffolding all over them (refurb already?) and none of them were even painted! And don't even get me started on what the interior of the units must look like! :scared:
I thought that by buying into the newest DVC Resort that we'd avoid all the 'Disney isn't keeping the place up' issues for at least a few months. Instead, I'm starting to worry about our first visit; I'll be a little upset if we don't have a roof over our head.

There, now that's out of the way, and I can set the alarm for early December 1 to make our first SSR ressie where I know we'll have a GREAT TIME!

NOTE: Tongue firmly in cheek here....

We almost cancelled our reservations last June to stay at BCV becauseof all the negatives(remember, bugs and broken furniture?). Well, we ignored it all and had a great time. Wonderful room, great CM and no problems at all! There is alsways someone who is not satisfied....judge for yourself.

I have been "home" to BCV 3 times already and have a 4th rip planned. I also get sick of reading negative reports about BCV. Sure, there have been some legitimate issues, but there are some complaints out there that I feel are just ridiculous. When we travel, we only stay in deluxe hotels and I have never felt that BCV is anything less than that. Like another poster said, when you're at your resort and you start looking for some of these things because of what you're read here, it's time to take a break. So that's what I do; I read the resorts board or the restaurants board.

If you are that stressed out about your purchase, I would simply look for a VWL resale and put your BCV contract up for sale. It's not worth the constant second thoughts. You should be happy and excited about your purchase, not in a panic everytime you read a negative post. Hope you find peace of mind one way or the other. :D

Only 10% of the people who viewed voted and the numbers were spread out over a number of resorts. I'll include a number of the things that I don't consider bashing as that may where the difference lies.
  • BCV has low water pressure.
  • BCV has somewhat standard views compared to BWV at preferred room points.
  • Those pesky BCV thermostats
  • BWV has long hallways.
  • Other DVC resorts outside OKW have small rooms.
  • BW restaurants aren't inside the resort itself.
  • OKW is too spread out.
  • OKW isn't as convenient from a transportation standpoint.
  • OKW requires a car to make it functional for many.
  • Complaints about OKW in general related to the restaurant there whether it be the fact there's only one or that it's not many people's favorite.
  • VB doesn't have enough activities.
  • All the units with a pull out in the second BR won't sleep the occupancy as well as they should.
  • HH isn't on the Beach.
  • Bugs
Well, there are others along these same lines. I would consider NONE of the above bashing. They are all true in their own way. Many of these and many other issues would not matter one iota to many but would to some. So if there's something that is accurate in any degree, I would not consider that bashing. The fact that a single issue isn't important to me or anyone else is beside the point.

Of course, those viewing compered to those voting has no relevance. I wouldn't consider the majority of the examples you brought up as bashing either, and those are not the types of comments I was referencing when I placed my vote in the referenced poll. As others indicate they are also aware, there has been much nonsense posted beyond and not consistent with your example comments. I also don't think 327 people are wrong and unaware regarding unfair resort "criticism", "negative comments" or "resort bashing".

Again, in case anyone is "comprehension imparied," Posting resort problems, pros and cons is helpful, nonproductive resort bashing is not helpful.

As much as I don't like the resort bashing, it does help with some of the unbridled enthusiasm around here. It helps set expections. DVC is nice, but there is no such thing as perfect (and there isn't at the regular Disney resorts either, hang at the resort board and watch the complaints about the views, worn carpets, rooms that need repainting - it happens. I stayed at the CBR in 1995 and the room was in bad need of a coat of paint)

DVC is wonderful. I really really enjoyed the space in our unit, and I think we got a great value. But I have been in nicer hotels. The balcony chairs (as is being pointed out) are plastic. The mattress in our room won't make it through many more guests without being intolerable. The hideabeds are a less than perfect solution for sleeping adults. The Boardwalk was noisier than I anticipated. Its possible to end up looking at a dumpster from your room. If you expect conceirge service and Grand Floridian amenities in a suite like setting, you are going to be disappointed - DVC is still a timeshare. I've also been in significantly worse hotels (and timeshares) -- to paraphrase one of my traveling companions "my standard of travel is the Days Inn, if its nicer than a Days Inn, it isn't all bad." (Actually, mine is a little higher, but DVC did meet it without issue). We sat in our lovely two bedroom unit and talked about "bad hotels we've been in." Sharing a shower with cockroaches. Rust rings in the sink and toilet. Damp mattresses. Old Froot Loops stuck to the carpet. 104 degrees and the air conditioners on the fritz. Yep, been in some "quality" hotels in my time.
