Getting upset about our purchase... OLD POST

Wasn't all that long ago that BCV was the red-headed step child.

To be sure, her family has had their ups and downs, but aren't you being a little insensitive towards our resort's mascot?

Most of the negative posts I've read about BCV have to do with mousekeeping, rude desk CM's and uncomfortable sofa beds. All of which could and should be changed, if true. Never have I read that people hate the layout of the resort, it's onsite dining, the size of it's main pool, it's "themeing", it's proximity to Epcot, bell services, it's air conditioned elevators, it's interior hallways, etc.

The negative things I read about SSR have to with: it's spread out layout, it's very large size, it's lack of onsite dining, it's themeing, it's distance from the parks (and even DTD depending on what building you are in), that it's pool is too small for the future size of the resort, unconditioned elevators, poor bell services, no 24 hour room service, etc. Some of these things can't be changed. I am not saying I agree with ANY of these observations-I have never even stayed at SSR! In fact, I've only seen it in pictures (allearsnet) and from DTD while it was being built. So, SSR fans, don't get mad at me!

What I am saying is that I don't see how you can compare the two sets of negative comments, or the two resorts for that matter. They are two totally different kind of resorts. Not every DVC member will enjoy both types. We have friends who are BCV members who dislike the "hotel" feel of BCV and always stay at OKW. I'd be willing to bet that there are OKW and SSR members who prefer the "hotel" DVC resorts. What's great about DVC is that you have the option to stay at the style resort you like best!

Ummm...about two years.
That is quite a bit of search. Why one would do it; is what I do not understand.

I didn't set out to "dig up" the thread. I just happened across it and it amused me. Geez, call off the dogs!
To find a thread this old, on this board; you would have had to search it out quite a bit. No way, was this thread on the first 1-4 pages of this board-- almost 2 years later.

1. The newest DVC resort has always been nit-picked by the board. It happened to VWL, then BCV, now SSR. Hopefully some SSR owners will take solace in that fact. Judging by the replies, it's already happened.
I agree all the newest DVC resorts get their sharing of bashing. It is so childish and so, so expected.

2. I'm curious to hear how lenshanem feels about her Home resort choice after the fretting that inspired the post.
Lenshanem has posted many, many positive posts, in the last 2 years, about her families enjoyment and satisfaction with their choice of BCV as their home resort. I am still confused why this thread was bumped up by you nearly 2 years later.

If you don't like the program, start turning the dial to the right.

We like the DVC program very much. This inculdes all the DVC resorts. We are not the ones having home resort issues. We like them all. We also could not care less about a bunch of strangers opinions on a discussio board. Once these strangers start paying our DVC membership dues, we will care. Until then......remember the magic.

Actually, my original ancient post still holds true today. NONE of my concerns had ANYTHING to do with the current concerns about SSR that are circulating on the boards these days.

My concerns were mostly about negative reports on mousekeeping at BCV two years ago. Not about size, not about weak food options, not about a small theme pool... Doesn't really compare, does it?

And we still love VWL, enough to do an add on. In retrospect, I'm glad we bought BCV. It has the highest resale value and books the fastest. True, I was ticked after the longer SSR contract came out shortly after, but now after staying at SSR I'm glad we have BCV instead. We'll probably always be able to get into SSR, can you say the same for BCV?

I think you really need to relax about SSR. I know it is your home resort, but really... Digging up this old post? You made a point I guess, but probably not the one you had intended. Quit trying to pick fights with me.

I'm not even going to attempt to respond individually. Clearly this attempt at levity has been misunderstood and misconstrued.

To clarify the inferences that I'm seeing:

* I did NOT intentionally go looking for this thread. I stumbled across it while searching for another this afternoon.

* This was NOT some veiled attempt at propping up SSR at the expense of BCV.

* I am NOT implying that the issues discussed her are still occurring as described at BCV. To anyone just reading this thread, IT IS TWO YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!

* Those still searching for some ulterior motive...THERE IS NONE!!! I remember reading this thread (at least the earlier posts) with some fondness years ago, and had thought perhaps the old-time members of the board shared that sentiment. If not, then I guess it will remain my own private joke.

* lenshanem: If you're reading this post, I hope you don't take it the wrong way. This wasn't in any way, shape or form meant to be a slight to you. You posted this about 3 months before I bought into DVC, and I just remember your comments mirroring some of the thoughts our family shared as we debated things like Home resort. If it came across as insulting, then I apologize.

Although I am new to the boards, I did not think your post was attacking anyone or trying to put anyone down either. I thought you were sincere in asking if shan was happy with her decision. Wow, this place can get ugly!

tjrkraz - just wanted to let you know that I also understood what you were doing - I thought you were pretty clear in your bump post in trying to reassure those who bought SSR that one of the most popular resorts had people with negative experiences/worries back when it was fairly new - so don't panic if you are reading some negative SSR feedback...

Sounds like there might be some underlying issues with "Quit trying to pick fights with me" as part of a post but not a nice impression.

I second Marathonmommy on the "Wow, this place can get ugly!" and hope she knows how nice and helpful most of the people on these boards can be...

I also thought this post was Ok, maybe a little strange going back 2 years, As I am sure there are other people in the last year a little sceptical of buying BWV, or VWL, or etc when SSR started, but I can understand your post, and WOW, some people need to take a CHILL PILL, he was just asking how opinions change as you stay at resorts.

EXAMPLE: I WAS skeptical about BWV in 99, when I bought, I read (on these boards)1 elevator, LONG hallways, etc, but I don't really mind. After 5 stays at BWV, I love it!!! Long hallways or not!!! JMHO.........

I had the same experience in 1999. BWV was regularly bashed here. Small rooms, housekeeping problems, front desk problems, etc. 6 years later, no complaints!

DVC'ers jumping from studios to 1 bedrooms!

The point TJ was making is that at any given time regardless of what some want to think "all" DVC resorts have been on the receiving end of many threads that were based on complaints about that particular resort.

TJ was not trying to point out that the complaints were the same for BCV as they have been for SSR, simply that no resort has remained unscathed. It's just that SSR is on the front burner right now and the others are not. It was also about the fact that someone can at first be very upset over the purchase of their home to later love it. It was not about why they were upset, but simply they were upset.

As to the comment about some owners being overly sensitive about thier home resorts, seems some are overly sensitive about comments here in general. I guess in order to be PC, he should have gone and found a thread on VWL and BW to add to the collection.

The bad mouthing about the BWV that I remember had to do with trash in the hallways.

I remember also - but it was also being said about BWV. I'm sure it will be said about SSR soon enough. No reason to leave them out.

It would have seemed more appropriate to wait post a link to Shan's thread in the next inevitable "SSR rip thread". To breathe life back into it as a stand alone own thread makes it seem like theres a not-so-hidden agenda.
