FYI: More Cuts Coming

Because of budget overruns with Shanghai Disney, domestic Disney Parks are going to see some cuts, especially in the labor department. Gone will be curbside greeters at the resorts and staffing will be reduced for a variety of other roles, like attractions and custodial.

Also, entertainment staffs will see some thinning in addition to only one Fantasmic! performance per night until Easter week. MSEP may also be running once per night through the end of March, despite the heavy crowds expected for spring break and Easter. These are still rumors but the changes seem to be reflected on the TA park hours calendars. This would also explain the surprising number of character greetings that have been axed since the start of the year.

Seems like they always run in to these types of situations when opening new international parks... Thoughts?

Please forgive my lack of knowledge, but what is MSEP? Thanks.

Just speculation ... we'll see what happens.
If the info isn't coming directly from Disney I'm hesitant to believe it.
Actually, even when it comes from Disney it doesn't make it true (Club Villain cancelled in March and then rescheduled).
Plus, Disney is always fooling around with their calendars.

Seems crazy that they have to make these cuts. I do feel badly for the employees. I guess this stuff happens everywhere, but WDW is not struggling, so it's hard to understand.

I believe it's because this is place they feel they can get away with it the most. Because as many people have stated they are going to go no matter what. (Which is not wrong, it's there prerogative) so they feel they can trim down on the guest experience without as much as a push back as in disneyland for example. That would be my guess.

They are making cuts in Disneyland too.

But is it to the same degree? I haven't seen a bunch of characters being cut... maybe I missed it though, I'm kind of preoccupied with all the WDW snips right now.

I was wondering the same thing. I have not seen DL getting the same magnitude of cuts as WDW. But that could just be ignorance on my part

Well you probably won't hear them say it directly but these cuts have all been announced to the cast. I know several part timers who got 0 hours this week and were told to expect that for the next two months.

If true thats ridiculous.

Zero hours. Zero hours for the next three weeks. No hours, no paycheck. CM's barely make minimum wage as it is. How do you think they're going to pay their rent and car payment and feed themselves? Or their kids?!

I see above you quoted me and I hope it's because I was confirming much of what the OP posted. I think this is horrible for the cast and wI'll also cause the guests difficulty.

Yeah, they're definitely cutting people's hours. A lot of the PT CMs I work with are getting one or two days a week, if they get scheduled at all. The ones who don't have a second job (or a retirement check from a previous career) are really in deep doo-doo.

My role is a bit odd because our FT hours are 32/week during slower periods anyway, but I've been hearing not to expect more even during spring break/Easter.

Yes, I know your DD is a CM (or used to be). I agree it is horrible all the way around and will diminish the guest experience as well as being a hardship for CM's.

She is not affected but I was with a group of entertainment/food and beverage CMs who were telling me about their cut hours last night. It was the first I had heard of it but today it seems to be all over my Facebook.

Gone will be curbside greeters

What's that mean? Certainly not the curbside baggage checkers?

Aside from the CL greeters the only "greeters" I ever recall seeing was the older gentleman in front of the Grand Floridian (and I'd hate to see him go)

And frankly these cuts have to be a drop in the bucket compared to the overruns Shanghai is experiencing and certainly sacking longtime positions to cover a short term loss is odd given that it will ultimately hurt the parks reputation worldwide and cause more damage.

I'm going to interpret this as the resort stays and attendance are dropping because of their price increases but they think they can weather it with staff cuts to make up the losses.
