FW campfires common?

I would love to make a short tent-camping trip to FW next year. DH is very outdoorsy, and camps a lot, but usually in the backcountry. We try to avoid campgrounds because he is very sensitive to smoke and being near campfires is hard on him. But he said it would still be fun to camp at Disney.

I know there are restrictions on what kind of fires people can have, but are campfires in general common? Or do people tend to be too busy out and about at the parks to bother?

I know there's no guarantee we wouldn't end up next to one regardless, but was just curious what was "normal".

Also, a couple of other general questions... Is there much shade at the sites? And does it tend to be quiet or noisy at night/late evening?

Thanks for any help you can give!! :)

There aren't fire rings at the sites, but people do bring in the acceptable fire pits with the mesh lids... I've seen several... more in the cooler months. We usually bring one. I've never had an issue with smoke at all. The sites are pretty shady, but each site is different and some may have less shade than others. It is not as quiet as a state park campground may be... it is Disney after all and buses and boats do run late into the evenings and kids are playing later at the pool and people are just out late riding golf carts around and such. We've never been bothered by the noise though. If you want a more quieter tent experience, I would recommend loops 1500 and 2000. They are dedicated to tents and pop ups... less noise for sure. We also took fans when we use to tent camp at FW for white noise.

1) No open campfires are allowed at any time by guests.
2) Fire pits MUST have solid bottom and top, with mesh sides
. . . solid top/bottom stops burn-through
. . . mesh sides allow air flow and prevent sparks/embers from drifting
3) Also, based upon season and rainfall, sometime even fire pits are not allowed.

In our three trips (November, February, April) I have personally seen only a handful of campfires (smelled a few from a distance too). I personally wish fires were disallowed altogether but it hasn't been an issue. People generally are quite busy during the daytime, and its often too warm even at night to make relaxing by a fire seem all that pleasant. In addition, the fact you must bring (or buy) your own fire ring probably discourages some who might otherwise have a fire. YMMV (your mileage may vary!)

In all our trips there over the years, I would say that campfires are not that common. Yes, there are some, but I've noticed very few. We have never had a campfire. As you say, we are some of those that are too busy to sit out by a fire there, also we don't enjoy being 'hot' by a fire - the cooler weather would be more conducive for that I'm sure (we have only been there a few times in cooler weather, and it was TOO cold!).

We reserve our campfire for the mountains where we can have a fire ring. Everyone enjoys things differently though. :)

I would say the smoke would definitely be minimal though! Enjoy your trip!
