Anyone know how to get rid of these pesky little critters? They seem to like my garbage area, even if there is no fruit in it. Nothing major, just usually 2 or 3 flying around in the house. Yuck!

Me too, I hate the little buggers. I've seen in some housewares catalogs some traps for them. Should have bought them then because now I can't find them anymore. I thought about some fly strips from the grocery store but DH talked me out of it - will buy them next time I'm there and put them on the top of the fridge beside the bananas where they can't be seen. One more thought: put some fruit in the garbage disposal for a while and when they congregate there turn it on...

When I searched for answers last year the best I could come up with was "Eat the fruit". Big help, huh?

What I did find that worked was to leave a glass of wine out. Now's the time to dig out that cheap bottle of really sweet wine! Apparantly, they're attracted to the fruit of the wine and then die. It does work. Good luck.

Apropos of nothing, but my dad used to raise fruitflies (biology grad student). Do you know there are ones with red eyes and ones with blue eyes?

My mom always says, do you know what it's like to share your apartment with 10,000 fruitflies??

This is also the guy who when my mom was about 10 months pregnant with me (I was VERY late :p ) took her with him to watch him dissect rats in lab class.

My dad is weird. :teeth:

10 months! I'll say you were late!

Kasar-waste wine? LOL!! ;) Hmmm, I do have a cheap-o bottle, I could give that a shot!

Take a small bowl and mix in it a little sugar, a little vinegar, a small squeeze of dish soap and fill the rest of the bowl with water. Then just sit it out where you see the flies the most. For some reason they are attracted to it and they will fall in.

I had these about 10 years ago. I cleaned and cleaned, kept NO food out, yet they were still hanging around the same area on the EMPTY and CLEAN counter. I couldn't get rid of them. Finally, I bombed the place with bug bomb. That was the only thing that worked. Even spraying with raid in that area didn't work.
