Frontier seat assignments

I'm not sure why people are feeling the need to lecture me about having people give up their seats. I have stated nowhere that was an expectation. I was simply asking how the seat assignments work so I can determine if it's truly worth it to pay extra for a seat of my choosing. It's pretty clear it is. Thanks for your input.
Nobody is lecturing you. It is a common question here, whether you have to pay for seats or will the airline ask people to move so I can sit with my children. No one said you were going to do it. They, including myself, were stating that "if" that is an expectation, based on the numerous questions regarding such on the DIS it often is, that expectation is not going to be successful. So, just another factor to take into account whether making a decision to purchase the seat assignments or not. Nobody accused you that asking people to move was your intention. Just another little factoid to make a decision with.

Yes their service is increasingly getting worse. Look at their FB page about the complaints this week alone. Hubby read a story yesterday they added 30 new routes but don't have enough pilots to fly the routes now. I had a co worker 2 weeks ago got delayed for 6 hours. He finally boarded the plane then they were told the flight was now canceled because the pilot had been awake too long. So be prepared for cancelled flights to delays getting home which might take days to get you home. Had a friend yesterday who was told her that her flight for Wed was cancelled and they can get her home on Monday! We had a flight once that the whole route was canceled. As in we are not flying this route anymore. It happened to be our return flight and I found this out 1 day before our trip. Thank god I found out before we left! But I only found out by accident Frontier never called or emailed us about this change.

Ok, everyone - never said I expected anyone to move for me. I simply wanted clarification for the seat assignment procedures. Truth be told, I think we'd be perfectly fine sitting apart if it turned out that way. It's a less than two hour flight and they both have flown before. I just wanted to understand how it worked.

My family has flown more than a dozen times with Frontier, one of those flights included 14 of us in total, and we have always checked in at the 24 hour mark and have never once been separated on a flight, including our huge group of 14 to Orlando.

I just booked a last minute trip for next week and we're taking frontier for the first time. I'm traveling alone with 2 kids (10,7) and I did not pay to pick my seats ahead of time. I'm having a hard time understanding their seat assignment process. Are the chances we'll be assigned seats near one another at check in slim to none? I'd have to pay an extra $75 each way to chose seats so I originally thought that I wouldn't bother. Now, I'm not so sure. I take it you get assigned an actual seat unlike Southwest where you get assigned a zone and have a chance to find seats together?

First, are you sure it's $75 to choose a seat or is that the WORKS that includes the seats that recline with more leg room and a checked bag, etc.? I've only seen the price of seats up to maybe $30 on our flights. We normally paid $12 each way.

We fly Frontier pretty frequently and this past year stopped paying for our seat assignments after hearing from others that they have never been separated from their family regardless of age. And so far so good. I do make sure I check in as soon as I'm able to just so I don't take any changes. But traveling from 2-5 people on 6 flights since November so far so good. We've always been kept together. I've read the occasional negative review where this didn't happen, and technically they don't have to seat you together, but it seems for the most part they will if they are able.

My personal experience: I have flown Frontier for 3 legs with no seat assignment.

Two times I was one of four people on the reservation. We sat in seats A-D (3 seats together and one across the aisle)

Last week there were three of us on a reservation and we were seated 3 together (Seats D-F).

Frontier states that they will try to keep groups together but that is dependant on how many open seats are available when you check in.

OP....if you think your kids will be fine with it then take the chance and save the money, it's money that can go to something fun. For the most part airlines want parents and kids sitting together so I wouldn't expect them to separate your group but realistically anything can happen. You said you've seen the available seats...are there plenty left or only a handful? Base your decision on that.

You can try not booking for your outbound flight and see how that goes.....if it doesn't work out then book seats for the flight home.

We were a group of 5 adults on our trip to Orlando in early May of this year and all our seats were assigned together across a row on both flights I checked in as close to the 24 hour mark. We had great flights, with no problems whatsoever.

I've flown Frontier a few times with different size groups. I only paid for seat assignment once. Every other time, I have just checked in close to the 24 hour mark. My group has always been seated together.
