Day 5- MGM
This is DD's fave park-she was looking forward to it. We caught the bus about 8:15am & arrived at MGM about 8:35. Me, DD, & nephew set out for ToT while DW & niece got us fastpasses for RnRC. ToT was great as usual-we dropped 5 or 6 times. It's hard to keep up. What happens before the drops is the best part, IMO. After that, we met up with the others & did the Great Movie Ride. The kids were only so-so on that ride. Back to RnRC. Still just three of us. After getting inside, we came to a standstill for about 15 minutes
. Finally, the doors opened. I think something wasn't working because there didn't seem to be as many lights as I remembered. Still fun, though.
We did Millionaire (I was #3 on the fastest finger question-it was about sports, my specialty
), One Man's Dream ( I could have spent more time here), Star Tours (couldn't resist buying a Star Wars Weekend shirt), Muppets, & Little Mermaid.
We had a PS for lunch at Sci-Fi. I knew our niece & nephew would like this place. We had a short wait, so we browsed the gift shop. I had a burger & chocolate shake, DW had a Rueben(?) I believe-don't remember the others. We all enjoyed it & our server was great. Many complain about the poor quality of food here, but we've enjoyed our meal here both times we've been.
We shopped for a while & then returned to CR for a swim/nap. We had our longest wait for a bus all week, about 20-25 minutes. DW's & DD's mysterious arm & neck rash was worsening. DW's didn't actually go away until several days after we got home. They decided to quit using the sunscreen we had brought. In the meantime, our neice was now complaining that heat rash had been bothering her all day (both niece & nephew are overweight-I suspect that's a big part of the problem)! Oh brother!!! Well, now everyone had an ailment, so things had to be looking up.
Enjoyed a nice relaxing swim. Swimming helped with the rash problem. Rested up in the room for a while. I wanted to be back at MGM no later than 7:45 for Fantasmic.
By the time we walked from the bus to the ampitheater, it was about 8. The middle sections were all taken, but we were able to get decent seats about three sections from the left end, about two-thirds of the way up.
We hadn't eaten dinner yet, so DW & I went to get everyone something. I noticed the far left snack bar wasn't busy, so we made a B-line for it. Hot dogs, chips, & a drink for everyone. The hot dogs were huge (so were the bags of chips), & quite tasty. It's probably because we were all starved!
Fantasmic is a great show. Last trip, I tried to take lots of pictures during the show (they didn't really turn out). This time, I just watched. The kids really got a kick out of the show. Sitting on the left side meant a slow process getting out of the theater though.
On the way out, we did some shopping. Bought several things. I was beginning to wonder if there would still be a bus for us. There was hardly anyone left in the park when we wandered out. DW commented later how much she enjoys just wandering through the shops. Me too.
A CR bus came quickly & we were the only ones on the bus at first. We asked the bus driver how late they picked up. He said they keep coming until no one is left to pick up. I mentioned to him how I'd love to drive a bus for Disney when I retire from teaching. He said WDW employs 1000 bus drivers & was looking to hire 150 more. Interesting...
