Hey Sharadoc and dvczerfs,

we usually take the 81-66-17-95 on our way down especially if leaving a weekday. We drove once over night but our kids like seeing things during the day so we'll keep it that way as long as everyone is content.

:thumbsup2 we didnt go that way last june.:sad1:on 17, is the big rollerskate still there?:yay:

I have put off posting this, but I can't wait anymore! I am SO nervous about driving all the way to Orlando. I'll try my best to make this understandable.

We will be at WDW Sept 11- 15 then we will be headed to Siesta Keys Sept 15-17. Hopefully we are home on the 18th.

I have used google maps mostly, because that is what our GPS uses. I do have a road Atlas as well, but I have not consulted it yet.

This is also a suprise trip so we are arriving in Clermont, FL the night before we arrive at Disney.

Here we go, hold on tight!

Sept 9- friday- Depart at 6:30 pm from Shelbyville, IN. We plan to book a Hotel in Chatanooga, TN. With a stop this should put us there around 2:30 am.

Sept 10- saturday- Depart 9:30 am from Chatanooga, TN. We are hoping to arrive in Clermont, FL around 9 pm with a few stops.

Sept 11- Sunday- arrive at WDW around 9 am, this will give us time to check in, and get our passes (whatever they are called), then decide what park to go to. The first day is kids' choice, then I have planned everything else.

What do you think about this plan? Any suggestions on routes to avoid? Would you leave friday night or early saturday morning?

We have toyed with the idea of leaving around 3 am on saturday. but I don't think we would get to Clermont until 11pm or 12 am?

We are a family of 4, DH, me, DD 8, and DS 6.

Our trip totals for miles will be around 2200 after we get to the beach. But this is without any extra driving (stores, around the parks, when we get lost haha).

Suggestions are welcomed. I hope I included all the necessary info :). Thanks in advance.

We're heading down from CT on Saturday July 6th- leaving CT at 4 a.m. I was hoping we'd miss DC traffic because it's Saturday. We should be through there by 10 or 10:30. Does that sound okay?

theres no rush hour traffic but there is alot of shore traffic in the summer time. weekends on i95 in the summer on friday night, sat. morning and sundays can get packed. people heading to and from the shore points. (i sat in that only once in 2005, never again.:thumbsup2)

So I need to change my plan? Any suggestions?

I am getting the impression the driving back from Orlando on the weekend in the summer is bad! We did it last August and hit a lot of traffic (we started back to Philly on a Sat - drove for a few hrs and stopped overnight.) The drive back on Sunday was slow, and full of traffic on 95 too. I am wondering if we would be better off finding a different route back home?

I think we are sticking to I95 down for the overnight drive, since we have not encountered too many issues with the drive down...

Thanks for any help you can give!

last month, i left the contemp. at 3am, we headed up i4 and i95 to i26. when we hit i26, the traffic was starting to get heavy already. i use i26 i77 i81. but, if your in philly, 81 is north of you. but, alot less traffic. a few post ago sharadoc post how she went 81 and shes from the philly area.:thumbsup2

So I need to change my plan? Any suggestions?

sorry, i was on the disdads. there are people from ct that use 81-77-26-95. off the top of my head, i think they come across i84? :confused3 to hit i81. that would get you out of the shore traffic. the only plave you may slow up is charlotte nc but it shouldnt be bad on the weekend.:thumbsup2

So we should definitely avoid DC etc on a Saturday morning? I think the inland route adds an hour or so from what I've read.

they add an hour or so IF you dont hit any traffic on 95. i would stay away but thats just from my op. from the, ill never do this again, road rage, i cant believe i went this way fit.:lmao: i have hit i95 in virginia at exit 133 and sat in bumper to bumper traffic on a sat.morning going to myrtle beach one year for a dance comp. everytime i get on i95 north of richmond, i seem to sit in traffic in the summer or near rush hour.:lmao:

Bummer. I was really hoping for a straight shot down 95. I wonder what time it starts to ease up although I want to get an early start so I wouldn't want to wait. Last year we left Baltimore (friend's house) around 6:45 to get through DC and then stopped for breakfast to waste some time so we wouldn't hit VA traffic.

We are leaving from Monmouth Co. so central coastal Jersey!
We will take rt. 18 to I95. We are leaving on a Thursday night after dinner (about 5:00 - 5:30) so we should hit the DC area around 9:00 - 9:30, I think.

As I previously mentioned I got directions from Bing Maps and there is only a slight difference in drive time depending on if you go through DC via the Inner Loop or around DC. Is one route an easier drive than the other?

I've done both a lot as I used to report into the DC area when I was working. The "inner" loop does have some sights to see while driving, but also a drawbridge that can occasionally go up. (I've only seen it up once, and we were right near the front, so it was actually cool).

Mostly worried about construction for ya, and don't know which side is better right now. Stay tuned, someone who's been through recently will give you their opinion! :) Oh, and 9 pm at night sounds really good! That way, you shouldn't catch up with any residual DC to Richmond traffic. :thumbsup2

GoofyGirl...We are in Mass....near Sturbridge and drive the inland route. It is a little longer mileage wise, but can be faster timewise.

From our house we go 84, 684, over Tappan Zee to 287 South to 78 west to 81 South to 77south to 26 to 95.

Many people from New England will stay on 84 all the way to Scranton, but going 287 to 78 saves more time and miles and still avoids NYC and DC. This avoids going all the way west before heading south.

The route we take you are heading south from the beginning which saves time.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Heather! Our route is 95 to the Tappan Zee Bridge so I could probably just follow your directions from there. I'm going to AAA map it that way and see what it says.

I'm getting more passengers every day :) I put that route into AAA and it looks like it's much longer. I'm not sure what we're going to do yet. Still figuring :)
