February 25, 2006 Western Magic Cruisers!!

Hi everyone! Maybe I missed it, so sorry if this is a repeat ?, but do what do you bring for seasickness for the kids? ( ages 6 and 12) Is there a dramamine or bonine for kids? I looked briefly at Target yesterday, but I didn't see anything. I'll be wearing my patch before I step foot on the ship. I had a bad experience on our first 3 day cruise. (I was so excited that I forgot to put the patch on right away, and by the time it put it on, it was too late! Live and learn.)

Thanks!
Lisa

Someone mentioned Mardi Gras by the pool or at formal night and are kids included. I think by the pool during the day would be better :sunny: and the kids should be there because that is what will make it fun, giving beads to the kids :jester:. It would be neat if the group could invite the captain and the off duty crew to join us. party:

I have neighbors who just took a 7 day cruise and they took a ginger root pill in the morning and one at night each day (starting the morning of) and they were fine. No sea sickness.

Try the Hylands homeopathic Motion Sickness tablets. Start taking them the day before. No side effects and safe for adults and kids. In addition, our kids use the wrist bands. Dramamine knocks us out. I do not want to be sleepy too early on the cruise. LOL!

A lot of people cruise for the food. We don't eat much more than we normally do, however, we want what we do eat to be very enjoyable. The Topsider buffet is okay. Nothing to write home about, but is sure handy at certain times. The food in the restaurants though is another story. Awesome, and the wait staff take very good care of you. It all makes dinner a memorable part of the cruise.

As for the shows, the ones we have seen are very good. The cruiseline has even had offers to take some of them on Broadway, but they want to keep them exclusive to the cruises. The kids love them as much as the adults--especially Disney Dreams.

Okay, I have spent an hour researching, and it appears there are some lounge chairs in Majahual (spelling), but not a ton. Now to find out about bathrooms?

Anything that we plan on this cruise I would say includes the kids [unless they insist on being at the oceaner's Lab/Club], for that is what having a Family is, spending time with your kids & enjoying life [yes those 2 words (kids, enjoy) can be in the same sentence]
Monday by the Pool is actually the best day/time to celebrate Mardi-Gras, for the evening is Formal night & many look forward to that. Tuesday is the actual Mardi-Gras day, but being at sea Monday will give the exposure to those that didn't join this board, that the fun didn't just start 2/25, but months ahead with a GREAT bunch of people.
Also to let people know that legends live on, even when disasters get in the way.
As for inviting the Captian & Crew... YES, I am sure there will be a LOT of bead passing & Tossing that day " Share the Joy, Share a Bead" :hippie:

WHAT ! ?? You are looking for a Bathroom with a Lounge Chair ?? :lmao: :rotfl2:

I know it was mentioned way back in here, but refresh my memory..

Whom should we be tipping & roughly how much [more if they are great]

I remember your room person
I also think your dining room watier (even if i eat in there only 1 night?)

Others ???

Hi Lisa!! My Pediatrician looked it up in his little book and said that for seasickness for kids you should give them Benadryl. I know that sounds weird but I trust him. I bought some of the ginger candy that people had mentioned....NASTY!!! So there goes that idea!

Jeff I think in our cruise docs there is a page that tells you who to tip and how much! And yes I think I've heard you do have to tip the waitstaff even if you dont eat there!! I know...it sucks!! I think we will try to make it to each restraunt once but then its Topsiders or room service!

Donna...you are so lucky!! I consider myself lucky if Mark remembers a card!! And then I think we each fell aslep on separate couches!! So romantic.... :rotfl2:

I would love a lounge chair with a bathroom! Awesome idea!! :lmao:

hopefully this will be my last dumb question before we go...

what number can i give my family in case there is an emergency to contact me? i know there will be email, which i do not plan to check too often. i checked on the disney site and all i can find is the regular number to call with questions about the cruise.

are they one in the same?

you all have been so helpful. thanks so much! :thumbsup2

Friends and family can contact you aboard the Disney Magic® or the Disney Wonder® by calling (888) 322-8732†. The cost is $7 per minute and CC information must be entered before the call will be connected.

If I remember correctly the long list is:

(3 people at the restaturants)

Server

Servers helper ( does the bussing and clearing)

Head Waiter of the restaurants

Can't remember if there is on this ship but if there is a room person's helper them too

If you get room Service the person who brings it to you

spa service people additional to the price of the spa visit

somepeople also bring something (small gift) for their kids favorite conselor in kids club

pfhew that is a list...Rick knows more about it than I do, if you want to pm him he will get back with you whan he can!!

Greetings, I hope I have not posted too late. My family and I booked this cruise at the last minute and are excited - first timers. We live in Saint Augustine, FL so Disneyland is a frequent stop. However, we are new to DCL. This thread is a wealth of information for us and we are looking forward to the cruise.

Ilene got the list pretty much correct. The cruise calculator web site will tell you the suggested amounts for the main positions (dinning staff and room attendent). All bar tabs have an automatic 15% tip added. For room service, we just use 1 or 2 dollar bills to hand to the server.

How much to tip is a personal decision and a very heated topic on these boards. One thing to consider is that the "tipped" positions have a very low wage scale (like $50/month). These folks need tips to survive. Even if you are not dinning the main dining rooms, please consider tipping the full amount. We have always received very good service from "our" crew and I tip above the recommended amount. YMMV . . . .

Back to meetings, have a good day . . .

Welcome to the group! :grouphug:

Happy Valentine's Day all!

I came home last night after a volleyball match ... and drinks and wings with the girls ... to find the dining room table draped with a red tablecloth, two dozen red roses in a vase in the middle, real pink and red rose petals strategically placed all over the table, Dove chocolate hearts and Lindt dark chocolate truffles also strategically placed, a big heart balloon, and a candle burning. I sure do have a romantic husband! I told him I'm not worthy ... he says I am. Tonight I made him dinner ... pasta primavera and garlic bread ... and we shared a bottle of wine. Can't ask for any better than that. Well ... on second thought ... the night is young! :lovestruc
Just had to share ... he never ceases to amaze me.

I can't keep up with this thread! :rolleyes1

WOW Donna!!!! That's awesome! I won't ask how the night went :lmao:

We could do both!! Meet at the pool for a party with the kids and then later wear our beads to formal night! We probably wont all be together at Dinner.. but we'll still make a statement.. he he  How would we go about inviting the captain? That's a great idea! :cheer2:

I've been told that Benedryl and Dramamine have some of the same ingredients.. but I don't see it on the ingredients label. But maybe it's just that they can have the same effects?? Good to know though! :thumbsup2

Good morning! I have a question. On Saturday, will there be enough time for the kids to go swimming after we embark? We're planning on being at the port by 11:00. This is the first time we are cruising with the kids. In the past, Jim and I usually explored around the ship during the first few hours, but I'm not sure what the girls will want to do. I'm not sure how crazy and overwhelming it will be for the girls (8 and 5). When is the drill done? Is that before we leave or after? I just don't want to get the girls all excited about swimming and then the day be too crazy for them. I like to prepare them as much as possible as to what to expect. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Crissy
