Fat Girls Walking Club

Good evening ladies,

ChocoKat - Wow a triathlon :cheer2: What a great goal!!!

Magix - Give the concrete & dirt a whirl. Take it easy the first couple of times you walk/jog/run on it and see how you feel. ;) I walk outside everyday on a combination of concrete sidewalk and a gravel dirt path it's not bad.

Disneyluv - Great time girl! Enjoyed your yoga comment, can't wait to hear more about that class!

Joymouse - Did you mention doughnuts? ;)

nkkilala - Woo hoo week 2 of interval running and you did 2.2 miles in 26 minutes, that's great!

acourtwdw2 - I agree w/ChocoKat woo hoo about the shirt! :cloud9: and wow you did TOT last year, right on!

Here are my weekly stats so far:
Monday 9/15 - 10,666 steps - 4.20 miles
Tuesday 9/16 - 8620 steps - 3.40 miles
Wednesday 9/17 - 17917 steps - 7.06 miles
Thursday 9/18 0 steps - 0 miles :sad2: I had to take my youngest son to college today, it was move into the dorm day for incoming freshman.

It's official ladies I have an empty nest . My oldest son started his junior year of collge and today my youngest son started his freshman year of college. Suddenly this single mom's small home feels quite large. On the upside I am hoping this will help w/my weight loss goal.

Jogging is very beneficial. It's good for your legs and your feet. It's also very good for the ground. It makes it feel needed. ~Charles Schulz, Peanuts

Walk on ladies!:cool2:

*sigh*
Yesterday work was hectic, today it'll be bananas. My shins didn't get any rest during the day and then I came home to bake again for today's charity bake sale. I sampled one cookie and one cupcake, well... not a whole cupcake really I had a bite, then I gave it to DH. :rotfl: So I spent most of yesterday night on my feet again.

Still, I weighed myself today, and it goes DOWN then UP! :scared1: Running doesn't seem to help on the weight loss corner for me as much as the elliptical/recumbent bike/swimming do, just the injury side :rotfl2: . It is difficult to keep motivated when after 2 weeks of training I have been mostly grounded and the scale is not moving.:headache:

Ah well, I really hope I can get better soon, not being able to work out is making me sad :sad2: .

I've been working out (hard!) at the gym for 7 or 8 months now and haven't lost anything, except an initial 5 lbs. Seriously, the scale doesn't move at all! Every time I run, I think I ought to be able to peel a layer of fat off my belly or rear end! I mean, COME ON!!!

Don't focus on the scale too much, ChocoKat. Focus on the fitness. Look at how your measurements are changing and how much your endurance is improving. I do understand the frustration with the scale, though.

Last night I did my initial week 3 workout and it was HARD!!! WOWEE!! This was an even walk/run workout. 1.5 min walk/1.5 min run, 3 min walk/3 min run, repeated 3 times. I had some serious moments of doubt as I made my way through it! About half way through, I thought, "Maybe I should just stop right now and not do this anymore." But, I kept going and I did the whole workout. I was absolutely beet red at the end. My forehead and cheeks looked like I had the worst sunburn ever! My trainer even laughed at me, although he was happy I was the one running and not him. My feet were hot, my face was hot, my left calf felt like I was going to get a charley horse. :faint: 3 minutes running is a big jump from my previous 1 minute! I am NOT looking forward to doing it again tomorrow morning. But, I will do it.

ChocoKat- Hang in there!!! I think scales were the worst things ever invented!!! I HATE them with a passion and have been using them less and less. To me they only hinder my exercise! Focus on other aspets, such as endurance, and mileage! Some days i'm happy that I just get out and DO my exercise! I know its tough but YOU CAN DO IT!

Magix- Way to push through it!!! I can't even think of running for 3 minutes right now!!! I can barley last the 90seconds!!
During my Intervals yesterday I thought "you know I could walk all of this and no one would know" but then I remembered that I would have to come report here..... so then I got my butt in gear!

Keep it up ladies!!! You are all awesome and an inspiration to me!!

Evening Ladies,
Here are my Friday 09/19 stats.
10190 steps, 4.02 miles.

I agree what is up with all of our scales? Are we all weighing in on the same scale? :confused3 I whole heartedly agree & share my fellow fat chicks frustration with the scales lack of negative movement... I agree we will focus on our endurance, improved physical & mental health, and remember how far we've already come.

Magix way to go girl! Week three sounds tough but you can do it.

ChocoKat good luck on your charity bake sale.

Lets keep moving forward all weekend long!

Walk on! :cool2:

Ok so here is something I haven't done before.....I'm posting PRE-walk/run.

I AM going out this morning to get my exercise in. While I was in bed I was contemplating going out....and trying to talk myself into NOT exercising. I immediately thought of you gals and got my rear out of bed and into my workout outfit. Now I am going to vacuum the game room for my warm up (I REALLY get into vacuuming) and then I AM going out for my run!

There I said it to all of you so now I MUST do it!

Thank you for the motivation and keep on moving!!!!

I did it!!!!

Week 2 workout 2 is in the bag!

I went out for like 26 minutes and did 2.1 miles again!! I feel great!

So great that I"m crazy enough to tackle Meijer on a Sat morning!! Wish me luck!

Yay!!! Nikki, awesome job! Very proud of you for getting up so early on a weekend too!

Yesterday work was a killer, we made a whole bunch of money on the bake sale though, but it was crazy trying to help with it in between meetings, etc etc :scared1: .

I was crabby that afternoon, I barely had any lunch and I just had a soup for dinner. My right shin didn't feel very good, but I printed out a 5K circuit that runs by my office to walk it out either today or tomorrow depending on my shins. I have decided to stop punishing myself for not working out and remember that I HAVE to get better first!:upsidedow

You ladies and your words of encouragement helped me a bunch.

So after finding and printing the route I sat on the couch and totally passed out! I was so tired. But I woke up today in much better spirits and energized. Let's hope my shins agree with me this time! :lmao:

Way to go Magix!!! I know exactly what you mean! For a bit there it just looks like the watch won't move! :scared: And you wonder if you can ever manage, but keep on at it! You are doing great!!! :cheer2:

I know!!! Scales are crazy, I got on mine this morning because I wanted to see how crazy it was... well, yesterday it claimed I had gained 5 whole lbs. I got on it today and suddenly I was down 6lbs from yesterday... it is official, that scale is bananas

Wonderful mileage! Keep it up!!!:cheer2:

Alright!
Back from outside, went to run errands, etc.
Went to the running shoes store and had them look at my NB's and the insoles.
They said the shoes are far from dead, but they noticed the inserts were a bit flat on the arch (I did tell you I have the flattest arch ever :rotfl: ).

So we bought new inserts and it really felt like it made a difference.

I am resting my shins today, they are still feeling very iffy. I got some men's running shirts at target, since apparently fat girls don't run :confused3 :rotfl: I don't know what we are thinking not sitting in a couch all day eating chocolates and wearing moomoos :sad2: we really have no shame trying to run and be healthy, tsk tsk! :rotfl2:

Keep moving forward ladies!!!:cheer2:

Thanks ChocoKat I've been trying to up my mileage & walking times. I hope the inserts help w/the shin pain. I cracked up over your Target running shirt comments and congrats on making a pile of cash at your bake sale! :)

Saturdays stats = 3748 steps & 1.47 miles.

Saturdays are my light days & I usually don't walk at all, I felt like a light walk yesterday. This afternoon I'll walk for my usual 45-60 minutes. Woo hoo the sun is breaking through the clouds, it's been raining here off & on the last three days in WA. :sad2:

Nikki ~ Right on & I agree all of you inspire & motivate me!

Walk On! :cool2:

:worship: Amen sister! It is so hard to find those wicking shirts that fit a pooh sized woman! I have a couple from the men's dept. as well. Maybe I should invest in some truffles instead!:dance3:

I did a bit of reading & research for us. When you hit a plateau or your weight loss has slumped here are three things you need to re-examine & focus on.

1 ~ Focus re-set your goals and your mind set. Break larger goal into smaller manageable goals. Record your goals and display them where you can see them daily. This visual reminder will help to inspire & also assist you when your having a crapola minute, hour, day, or week.

2 ~ Nurtition & diet again re-examine what you've been eating. Have you been eating more because you been exercising more? Keep track of your eating on the a simple monthly calendar w/a simple smiley face, neutral face, or a sad face for each days eating. Again this will assist & inspire you when you are in a rut, slump, or plateau because at the end of a week or at the end of the month you will have a whole month of eating smiley's to look back on.

3 ~ Exercise change it up, change your workout days, increase & vary your amount of exercise, add some cardio, try a new & different type of exercise once a week, boost your heart rate by using weights when possible. Record your exercise daily on the same monthly calendar so you can see your daily, weekly, and monthly exercise totals & progress.

I've decided to break my goals up in the following manner to help me get through the holiday season w/o gaining the usual 10 pounds and hopefully help me loose some weight. I will record on my monthly calendar faithfully everday my eating smiley & exercise totals. My weight loss goal will be 15 pounds and my exercise goal will be to find and enter my first 5K by Christmas day!

First goal ~ 6 weeks to Halloween -all tricks no treats this year for me.
Second goal ~ 4 weeks to Thanksgiving - to be less of a butterball.
Third goal ~ 4 weeks to Christmas - my gift to myself is to complete my first 5K by Christmas day.

Sorry for the length of this post! :flower3:

Glad I could make you ladies laugh :lmao:
Tolemommy, great pointers!! Thanks!

I just routed myself tonight's 5K (and some more) using http://www.walkjogrun.net/ , it is an awesome tool that I hadn't seen before.

Now for my goals...

1)Finish the EE5K and get my medal
2) Eat just a bit of candy this Halloween... not a whole bag :rotfl:
3) Get better time at the charity 5K I just signed up for at the office on Nov. 20th.
4) Go to the pool to train 3 times a week and do cardio and weight training 3 days.
5) Try and go down one size of clothing by December.

Great news ladies!
I just came back from a 5K walk/run and I did it with just over one minute over the 16 min/mile AND... my shins are PERFECT!!! :dance3: :cheer2:

The new inserts did it!!! WooHoo!!!
I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am, and also surprise that the inserts did such an incredible difference! I also had a handicap... sorry if it is TMI but I had to take an extra strength midol around an hour before my run :headache: mother nature sure knows how to make things... errr... "interesting".
So I am thinking that I was running a bit under the weather, so I am confident now that I can manage this weekend's (OMG it IS this weekend! :scared1: ) 5K without TOO much drama... (notice I didn't say without :rotfl: ).

I still have energy to spare, so yay!

Way to go Choco! You are on a roll. I am glad that the inserts did the trick for you. No more shin yuckies.:thumbsup2 Hope to see you all at the EEC, it is not long now.
I did the Boston Mini 5K route this w/e and had no trouble making it in a little under 16 minute miles. I am feeling okay about this w/e now, not great, but at least okay!
Have an awesome week everyone.

Thank you for the motivation and keep on moving!!!!

That's why I post here, on the Buzz Brigade thread and on another website that I frequent, besides telling everyone around me all about my training. That way, if I want to give up, I think about all the people to whom I'd have to admit my failure. Keeps me going.

I still wonder why on Earth I'm doing this... BUT, my Saturday run at the Jr High track went much better than Thursday's adventure at the gym. I've decided I need to run outdoors more often. It's just too hot in the gym (and that treadmill clock is so annoying). So, while I still have a month before the time change, I'm going to try to do more running in the neighborhood after work. Should be heading out for my first try at that tonight. I think I've devised a route that doesn't involve too many nasty hills (hard to do in my neighborhood). Plus, it will give me a chance to try running on concrete. One more workout at 3 minutes, then on Thursday I'll move on to week 4, which ups it to both 3 and 5 minute runs, with very little walking in between!! :scared1:

Glad to hear everyone's doing well to start this week! Good luck to all of you doing the EE!! You'll do great! :thumbsup2

Completed week 3 with a run around the neighborhood last night. Had to add a bit onto the route, since it didn't seem to be quite as long as it said when I mapped it out at walkjogrun.net (thanks for that link, ChocoKat!). Concrete didn't seem to be bad, so I'm pleased with that fact. It was a little embarassing running past people's houses, breathing hard as I ran, since I tend to think that I breathe so loudly when running that the entire neighborhood can hear me (though I hope it's not actually true).

I made it home just at dusk. Looking online at sunset times for the coming month, it appears I'm not going to be able to do after-work runs for long, unless I find someplace that's lit. No idea where that would be, though. Too bad, because I really prefer running outdoors now. Thursday night will start week 4. Going to be a tough one!

I did experience some pain in my left calf again at the end of the run, when i was doing the cool-down walk. Seemed to be generally ok after I stretched, but it worries me a bit that I keep experiencing the problem. The right calf is fine, though. Weird.

Magix- I agree with you on the stinky sunset times!!! I get home from work most days at 7:30 and literally have to do a quick change and RUN out the door! I like running outside better than the gym too! I have a nice route planned out that goes around the lake by my house. It is nice becuase there are only houses on 1 side of the road and it stays pretty quite. The negative thing is that it is POORLY lit. I'm going to have to find another area or stay at work and get on the treadmill (yucky)

I barley made it out tonight before dark! I got the 3rd episode of week 2 in. On Thursday I start week 3 which is 3 minutes of running/3 of walking....I'm a little hesitant but I know I can do it!!

I hope all of the EE challengers are making their way down to Florida safely!!! Good luck to all of you! We will be rooting for ya!!

Keep on moving!
