Fat Girls Walking Club

Nikki - Don't panic! You can do the 3 minute walk/run. I just finished that kind of week and managed to get through it okay. If I can do it, you can do it, too. :thumbsup2

My plan's bumping me up to 3 & 5 min runs with a max of 2.5 min walking in between (sometimes as little as 1.5 min!). :scared:

Way to go ladies!
I made it all the way to 20 mins non stop before getting sick.
If I can do that, anybody can, believe you me! :rotfl2:

I rested my legs for two whole days. I was thinking on doing a whole 5K again today, but something tells me I really shouldn't and to just do some lighter walk/run at the gym so my legs are at 100% for the race.

I'll be going to the gym tonight and see what I feel like, elliptical, treadmill or recumbent bike. hmmmm

Ok Ladies, I am off to WDW and EEC.
I am not sure how it'll go, have been moving stuff around at work all the way until very late yesterday and my shins have been bothering me non-stop :headache: .
Still I'll rest my legs today and most of the day tomorrow, (I don't think I'll do any parks), then off to the race.
Wish me luck, because I am so gonna need it :scared:

Ok so I did my run today!!

I get to work at 8am and we had 2 patients cancel on us so we didn't have anyone until 9:20am. I was going to work out at work this afternoon becuase we have NO patients however I moved up my workout to the morning.

This was the first time I did my interval run/walk on a treadmill! It went pretty good!!

I went for 30 minutes. The workout is below
5 min warm up
90sec run
90sec walk
3min run
3min walk
90sec run
90sec walk
3min cool down.
3min cool down for me!

I was so excited becuase I didn't even feel winded with the 3 min run! I don't know if it was the treadmill or the TV infront of me but something was making it feel easy!

Good luck to eveyone with the race!!

Keep moving!

Way to go, Nikki! I don't think I've done a run of any length without feeling winded!

Hope all our EE girls did well today! (It was today, right?)

I did workout 1 of week 4 last night at the Jr High track. IT WAS HARD!!! This was my first attempt at 5 minute runs. I just tried to make it through without passing out in front of all the soccer parents watching their kids at practice! WOW, this one was difficult. I took longer walks between runs than what the program said to do, mostly because I couldn't get my interval watch to work on this one and was busy fiddling with it. But, it was just an extra minute or so, so no big deal. I'm so not looking forward to doing this workout again tomorrow morning, though. Egads!!

On the up side, I think I've convinced a friend of mine to join me for the Dana Point 5K on Thanksgiving. Yay! That should make my first race a lot more fun.

Nikki ~ woo hoo way to go, work that treadmill girl!

Magix ~ woo hoo 5 minutes of running, I'm impressed . I know I would pass out! Congrats on getting your friend to do the Turkey day 5K with you!

Nikki & Magix what kind of interval training are you using? Is it something you listen to via an Ipod or ? I would like to try to start this as well.

I am so excited for our EE'ers by this time tomorrow they will be finished & proudly parading around with their medals. :yay: :yay: :yay:

Keep moving forward.

Walk on! :cool2:
Chris

Well, the race is tomorrow afternoon.
I picked up my packet, etc. The obstacle course includes a net, some hurdles, some crawling, etc :scared1:

I am a bit freaked out, but they said that if we have a problem with them, we can just keep going. Also if we take a bit too long they'll let us go on to the scavenger hunt. All in all, they seem to be very easy going, so I am not as nervous.

Still I have a case of butterflies and by tomorrow afternoon I'll be going bananas!!

Well I thought the EE was Yesterday but it appears that it is Today!!!

GOOD LUCK LADIES!!!

tolemommy- I have been listening to a pod cast titled "pod runner intervals" It has different music (with out words mostly) that it set to different beats per minute. You run on the beat and it lets you know when it is changing by chiming. It is free to download. I like it because I don't have an interval watch and am horrible at counting and such. The program does all of that for me! I like to be lazy when I work out! LOL

here is the site: http://www.djsteveboy.com/1day25k.html

I started with the First Day to 5K program. They have other ones as well (8K and 10K) that I will probably slowly progress to.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks Bunches Nikki, I will surf on over and check it out. Like you I think I'll start w/the first day to 5K. I've been walking 5-6 days a week for the last 4 months but running...:scared1:

Can't wait to hear all about EE from our EE'er's can't wait until they check in.

Thanks for the update ChocoKat!

Ladies, I DID IT!!!
I still can't believe it! I walked/trotted the whole 5K, the obstacles were way harder than I expected, but I was allowed to walk around them. I just KNOW I'd have gotten seriously injured otherwise. DH did make it through all of them, and he was FAST!!! DH always surprises me, he doesn't look like a buff guy, but he is a very fast runner and can go through hurdles, nets and elevated balance beams like a pro!!

The scavenger hunt part was so much fun! And easy! I loved every second of it. I now am a proud owner of a cool medal, and I can say I survived the Yeti.

I wasn't dead last either, which sorta made my day :rotfl:

I just have one question though... when do I sign up for the next one?
ROFL

Great job ChocoKat!!!!! Way to finish!!! WOOHOO!!! Do you have any pictures yet??

When is your next race going to be!!!

I went out this morning and did my week 3 workout again. It was harder outside that it was on the treadmill Friday! I thought I was going to die!!! ( well not really but I felt like I wanted to stop running) I did get through it, however, my legs are just so sore!

Congrats to the rest of you who did the EE!!! I hope no one was attacked by the Yeti!

I am back home ladies!
Nikki my next race is at the end of November, here are a couple of pics

It was such a great time, can't wait to do it again!
I'll be back to training by the end of this week if my shins are feeling up to it.

Keep moving forward!!!

CONGRATULATIONS, CHOCOKAT!!!!! Way to go! And your medal opens up into a compass?? How cool is that?!!? I'm very impressed that you made it through. Great work!

tolemommy - Here's a link to the training plan I'm using: http://www.active.com/running/Articles/How_to_Run_Your_First_5K.htm . I didn't want to go with an iPod version, since most races won't let you run with an iPod and I didn't want to get used to running to music, because it might mess me up when I have to do a race without it.

So, I just completed week 5 of the program (my week 4) last night. OMG!! This was, by far, the most difficult workout yet. Each time, I ended up fudging a bit on the walking times to allow myself to catch my breath. I did manage to get through each workout, amazingly. Last night, on my next to last 5 minute run, there was about a 30 second period where I was pretty sure I was going to throw up. But, fortunately, the feeling passed and I was able to finish the full workout.

BUT, at then end of the final run last night, I realized my entire left foot was numb. That was kind of scary. It stayed numb for about half of my walk home, but then was okay. Not sure what caused that, as I've been running in these shoes for 2 weeks and hadn't had any inkling of a problem like that before. I was on concrete for most of the run, so that may have played a part. I'll have to see how things go on my next workout.

Week 6 (my week 5 of training) is 2 days of 5 min running/3 min walking, repeated 4 times. Then 1 day of 8 min running/5 min walking, repeated 2 times. I think I can make it through that. At least now I can email with my friend, who's also doing the Turkey Trot, and commiserate with her. She's picked up the training plan at week 6, so we're on the same workout.

Hello Girls....:wave2:
Sorry to be lurkin on this thread, but just thought I would throw something out there.

There is a walkers thread on the WISH, with lots of walkers of different levels. It's kinda slow right now, but the walkers who do the different disney or other events/races share their experiences.
Dave (Panda) is a much experienced walker and can help with any questions you may have on technique, tips, etc.
If you find yourself in need of experiences of WISH walkers, come on over and introduce yourselfs. We are a fun "back of the pack" bunch of people!!

Hey Everyone :)

We're finally home after a great 12 day vacation. The EE was a lot of fun. We didn't do the obstacles. If the skinny people were having trouble, there was no way my fat butt was going to be able to do it :0 Maybe next year.

Glad to hear that everyone is having success with their training.

I'll write more later. I just wanted to check in.

Annette :)

Welcome home acourt!!

Glad you made it back to MI just in time for the cool down!!

Just to let you know The Extreme Makeover Home Edition House is being built in Holt this week!!! You should check it out if you get the time!

I got my run in yesterday on the tread mill it was my last go at Week 3. Next up is week 4. I haven't even started looking at what I"m going to do!

I hope to get over to Detroit on Friday to catch the Disney Parks Celebration tour!

ChocoKat, thanks for posting & sharing the pictures, your medal looks way cool!

Nikki, good luck on your upcoming week 4, I'm trying to get up the courage to start week 1.

Annette, welcome back can't wait to hear all about your vacation & EE.

Magix, thanks for the link I'll surf on over and check it out! Your doing great! I hope your foot is ok! I love the name of your run Turkey Trot, now that's my kind of race. Is is a 5K?

Tracy, welcome and thanks for the link and information about the other walkers thread. I loved your "back of the pack," comment.

I'm having an ok week, I've been busy! I''ve had something going on after work every day so far this week. Looking forward to tomorrow cuz I can go straight home and get my extra walk in.

Walk on! :cool2:
Chris

So, I've done the first workout of my week 5. This one was 5 min run/3 min walk, repeated 4 times. I made it through! My left foot started to go numb again, but not nearly as badly. I didn't tie the laces as tightly, but I suspect I still need to loosen the lower laces more. Although the mileage wasn't as far, either, so if I'd done more, it might have gone completely numb.

I just mapped out the route I did on Monday and it turns out it was exactly 3.1 miles! Hey! I did a 5K in 45 minutes! That's a good sign! Add a little more running or quicker walking and I know I'd be okay for the actual races, even if I don't manage to run the whole distance. That's comforting to know.

Hello hello!
No I did not fall off the edge of the Earth :rotfl:
Boy my legs are still recovering from the EEC and the fun at DisneyWorld.'

I went to the gym yesterday, tried work out 2 of the 5K plan, but had to stop because my right leg was not having it. So after 15 minutes on the treadmill I moved on to the elliptical bike and did a good 20 minutes in a high setting.

Today I am off to the pool for my first fall swim. I really hope they turned the heaters on!

Keep moving forward ladies! You are doing an outstanding job!!!:cheer2:
