Fast Passes shut down

Thanks for posting this brunette.Looks like the layoffs started alot less than 2 years ago. However the trickle down effect is still being felt!

Oh no! A year and a half ago! Gawrsh I guess I'm just Goofy.

Perhaps you should read the article, it included front line cast members not just management.Far from just streamlining. In your post you made it sound like no big deal! So I guess you didn't have the whole scoop either.Apparently the author of the story was concerned that service would be affected too!

I worked at Disney when this was going on.

Just quoting facts from the article, nothing I have posted is a lie!

And as I said, they were streamlining management. The "Front line" managers in the article were actually cast relations managers that you didn't really see much in the park itself. They were offered different positions, some lower and some not.

Even the news stations don't have 100% of the story a lot of the time. ESPECIALLY CF News 13. I mean for the love of God this is the same news station that said that the trainer at Sea World that had passed away had been attacked and eaten by the whale when the news first broke. :headache:

This makes me think of all the times I've been in WDW when weather shuts down a ride, sometimes for the remainder of a day. If I had my heart set on riding that ride, and I can't do so, I don't get a partial refund of my ticket.

This makes me think you and many others cannot see the difference between things Disney can control and things they cannot. Disney doesn't control the weather or any other unforseen problem. My quarrel is with Disney when they author the problem themselves and then hide behind 'subject to change/availability'. The masses aren't clever enough to recognize the difference as proven by many posts in this thread.

Most reasonable people would not argue about rides shutting down due to weather. The arguments come from when Disney stops/cuts back on a service (fastpass, tram, hot burgers) because the revenue for the day is not as high as they would like.

My real world example, which I hope will clarify my point is my recent new truck search. I'm looking at a new truck. In my county there are three Ford dealerships. One of these dealers is advertising that they will throw in free oil changes, free car wash coupons and 1 year of Sirius radio. Not a bad deal considering all 3 dealerships are even on price. Now before I bought the truck I looked through the fine print and there it was "subject to availability." Which upon further talks with the dealer really means that they will do the oil change if they have staff, car washes same deal and the Sirius is actually something that is not available yet. They still can deliver the truck I want at the price I was willing to pay. But I may not have wasted my time with the dealer if all the "free" extras were really not available or only available if their business was generating revenue - thus fully staffed. At the end of the day, they could not deliver what they advertised to get me in the door so I took my $ elsewhere. I'm doing the same with Disney.

I too have an example. Several years ago, we took holiday to the Dominican Republic. The brochure indicated such things as 'golf course nearby, table tennis, air conditioned rooms etc.'
Once we arrived, we found out the air conditioning wasn't working, the golf courses were private, and they had no ping pong balls. So, the brochure wasn't really inaccurate, as the rooms do have central air, it just wasn't working. There was a golf course nearby, just that hotel guests weren't allowed to play there. They did of course of ping pong table, just no ping pong balls. This was a 5 star resort. Terms and conditions were of course, subject to change.

Blech. Sure, that's exactly the same thing as FP not running on one attraction. Be unhappy. It's clearly the state you feel most comfortable in.

I am not a Disney apologist and I don't wish a bad vacation on anyone, but *to me* you seem to lack perspective. All done with this thread - and back to the kind of wine I can drink, thank you very much.

It wasn't meant to be exactly the same thing. How could it be? Resorts in the Caribbean do not offer FastPass or parking lot trams. It was meant to be a different example of expecting an advertised level of service and not getting it.

You can put your spin on it and I can look at the article and develop mine. Not all employees are getting 100% of the story either.Fact is they have cut back in many places and 1500 less people is gonna make an impact! Good Day!:sad2:

jonmar...just live with the fact that you are 100% correct. Disney parks do not offer seasonal discounts on park admission. You are entitled to no different services as someone who goes at the busiest time of the year. All these disclaimers are a cop out. All of you "Disney can do no wrong apologists" have no right to decide what's important to someone else. These were not weather issues. These were not issues out of Disney's control. These were conscious decisions to save money. As someone said, where does it end? Should Disney start to shut down rides or operate them half of the day to save money in staffing costs? Shutting a ride or service down for maintenance is unfortunate but necessary. Shutting a ride or service down for safety (weather or whatever) is unfortunate but necessary. Shutting a ride or service down to cut costs is unacceptable. Not when the price of admission is the same.

Well, I'd rather be a little less clever if that also means being less of a snot.

So I'll just pose this question that is perhaps more comparable...

You show up and find out a ride is down for refurb (many visitors who don't check any of this stuff online). Do you get a partial refund because Space Mountain was being renovated?

I guess I'm not so disillusioned to think that Disney isn't a business, and as such, makes decisions that sometimes save them money but cost customers time and convenience. But I don't sweat the small stuff. It's a good way to go through life. I'm not too stressed and I actually have FUN at Disney because of it.

Absolutely 100% CORRECT!!!!!:thumbsup2:cheer2:

Hey Flicx!

Ya just can't change some people. A few here think Disney is JUSt PERfeCT! LMAO!

You're welcome about the link. We are all feeling that "layoff" from Disney! Between the bathrooms being filthy during busy times, to crowd control, to frankly a CM maning the FP que. That is why I started the thread about Disney going down hill. Facts are facts.

But again, Disney is a business! So I am certainly not in the "Disney can do no wrong" camp. Quite the contrary. Disney is looking to make money (which, BTW, it has not been doing recently, or at least enough, hence all the discounts). But, the flaw in your logic is that Disney would take such extreme measures as to threaten the probability that customers would return for another trip. If the quantity and quality of service decline enough (whether its attractions offered or anything else) there WILL be a loss of revenue. The laws of economics won't allow that to happen (or at least, Disney won't allow their bottom line to be impacted by a drop in visitors).
