In each of my previous visits to Via Napoli we were charged the $7 per person who ordered and ate off the salad, but the charge was only $7 per person. Not $7 per person, per bowl of salad.

Last week my wife and I weren't too terribly hungry so we decided to split the salad and an individual pizza to make sure we had room for dessert. My daughter had originally said she wasn't hungry, but then asked for a piece of pizza leaving my wife and I with only three pieces to split so I ordered another salad and just ate one piece of pizza.

When we got the bill the charge for salad was $28 :faint::faint:.

I asked our server about being charged $14 for each bowl (since we have never been charged before) and he said "Yes, it is $7 per person, per bowl". The table of 4 next to me had a salad on their table as well and I asked him, "So what about them, if they get another bowl of salad do they get charged another $28?" (I was honestly confused at this point). To which he replied, "No, it's only because there are two of you."

I then asked to speak to a manager and then a couple of minutes later another server came by and delivered an adjusted bill with only $14 in salad charges. I still was curious to speak to a manager to find out what the policy is to clear my confusion, but we were in a time crunch with Epcot closing up at 9:30.

Soooooo, what has been your experiences? Are you normally charged for additional bowls of the family style salad or not?

That salad is not all you can eat, IIRC. They bring out an amount that is enough for the number of people eating it. I would assume that asking for another bowl of salad would result in a charge for another salad.

Bottom line is that salad is a huge ripoff. For $10 you can get an individual salad that is large enough for 3 people to share. Just know that for next time.

We went with a group of 11 and shared four salads amongst our group and were only charged for the four salads, not $7 for each of us.

I have been dining at Via Napoli since it opened. It used to be $5 per person and the price has kept going up to where it is now $7 per person. It has never been priced by the bowl, but per person. If you were not charged per person on prior visits, you were fortunate! We have always, always been charged per person...Oh, we have never had refills as it was not advertised as unlimited.

Love that salad, we always get it but always have enough food that we have never asked for a refill. I wouldn't anyway. It is not advertised as unlimited and I know I would have to pay for more.

Great salad!!!

We have always been charged by the person, but just never been charged when asking for additional bowls. Although, only one other time did we ask for an additional bowl and there were four of us.

I guess that is where my confusion came from. The table next to us (with four people eating off the salad) had a bowl the exact same size as us. So, I guess our salad was $14, theirs was $28, but they could get another bowl if they asked. Maybe they were out of the larger bowl or something, I don't know.

Any time I see inconsistencies like that with pricing, I guess I become cynical. Too many years in the service industry means you learn alot of ways people can get scammed.

Thanks for all the feedback though. Ultimately, what I learned is to never, EVER get the family style salad again. One bowl MIGHT be worth $7, but definitely not $14 and no way in the world two bowls are worth $28.

the usual Disney definition of "family style" is that all "refills" are included, that isn't the case with the Via Napoli salad or it's not supposed to be. It is confusing. They consider a salad for 2 a different thing than a salad for 4. and I think you are right, they are just trying to deal with different size parties using the same size bowl, so 4 gets a refill and 2 does not.

We got this salad for our family of 5. What a mistake. I really think they serve the same size salad bowl to everyone! It was definitely not worth it and I would never order that style salad again.
