Explain to me again about the lead guest?

Okay, here's my potential scenario - we want to go on the 8 night southern Caribbean in May. Now, ignoring life boats, etc for the moment.
If I put DH and I in two rooms with DS in my room and 2 other adult guests in DH's room, can I:
  • change those 2 other guests without increasing the price (I know this just changed, so I'm unclear)?
  • unbook that second room and move DH in with us if those two other people can't come?

So you are lead in one room and your husband is lead in the other? You should be able to change the guests in the room. And yes depending how soon your cruise is you could potentially cancel the other room for a full refund.

Just be aware the fare will be based on the date you shift DH into your stateroom, not the date you booked. If your son is a minor, your DH will automatically shift into the 2nd passenger slot bumping DS to a 3rd passenger fare. I've read reports that this gets messy because it shifts both into "current" fare status instead of simply adding a new 3rd person. Is there any particular reason to book DH in with the other 2 adults? Can he be on your reservation from the start and allow the 2 adults to be on the other? Unless you are trying to use existing placeholders, I don't see reason to put DH in the other stateroom especially if the others are questionable.

So I'd want to do it because i'm not sure who the other 2 adults will be and I was hoping if Person 1 and 2 couldn't make it, I could easily switch in Person 3 and 4.

I have a similar dilemma for September. If the vaccination rules don't change, Person 1 and Person 2 in a second room will be cancelled. If I want to invite along Person 3 and Person 4, it is an entirely new booking vs if Person 1 stayed the same and Person 2/3 changed to Person 4/5.

Also good to know about bumping DS. I was entertaining the idea of adding 1 person to our room as another alternative - and that will apparently screw up DS's on-board credit.

I did basically this exact scenario for our upcoming HI-Vancouver Cruise.

I booked two rooms, with myself in one and my wife in the other. The second slot in my room was going to be sister #1, with sister #2 and her husband would filling out the second room.

Life being what it is, my second sister and her husband had to cancel. They are expecting their first grandchild mid May. Since she cancelled my other sister decided not to go, as well.

I was able to swap out my two sisters for another couple. But we had no third person to take over BiL's spot. So, we had to "cancel" one slot. Since we are in Concierge we had to forfeit the third person's deposit.

Thank you! I appreciate the insight.
There will be no concierge for us due to the debacle from 2020, so I won't have to worry about that. :rotfl2: Even if no one else is able to go in the other room, DS and I will still be going because I'm not forfeiting any deposits (and we don't even get to be in concierge now)!
