*EXPIRED* J.Crew wedge flip-flops $5.25

I googled JCrew flip flops to see if I could see what others were saying. I found this and found it quite :rotfl2: so I thought I would share with others.

Flip-Flops top List of Things-to-Avoid-Because-
They're-Deadly
By Michael Owen
Opinions Writer

There is no elevator music when you are waiting on hold for J. Crew customer service. You can either wait in silence, or make up your own tunes, until an agent is available to assist you. Today I am calling about an extremely pressing issue. I must warn J. Crew that their flip-flops, two pairs of which I bought for $6.99 each in August, pose a grave hazard to the human race. Also, I want free stuff, or stock.

ME: Dum de dum. De dum.

J CREW:

ME: Dum de dum de dumde.

J CREW:

At this point, I am looking out my window and pondering the rainstorm that threatens to make California sink into the Pacific, or possibly, if it goes on long enough, the Atlantic. It has been raining for a day-and-a-half, and although weather.com promises that tomorrow will be “Mostly Sunny,” I am skeptical until a review of the 600-mile Doppler Radar thoughtfully reassures me. At least tomorrow, when it is mostly sunny, my life will not be in as much jeopardy, setting aside the ever-present risk of earthquake.

ME: La de da.

J CREW: Hello, this is Evelyn. How may I help you today?

ME: Hi Evelyn, this is Michael Owen. I’m calling to warn you that one of your products is extremely dangerous.

J CREW: I’m sorry?

ME: I purchased two pairs of flip-flops, or “rubber thongs,” from your store in Salt Lake City. They were $6.99. But they’ve imperiled my very life.

J CREW:

ME:

J CREW: How’s that?

ME: Well, whenever I walk over a wet surface—be it concrete, tile or wood—I realize my flip-flops have no traction whatsoever. Sometimes I realize this in time to reduce my stride and keep from inadvertently falling on my ***, but even then I have to spend my entire day shuffling across campus at, like, one mile per hour.

J CREW: I’m sorry to hear that, sir.

ME: No, it’s alright. What concerns me more is that some unsuspecting, loyal J. Crew customer might walk outside on a rainy day, not having worn his flip-flops before and so having no idea what to expect, and fall on his head. Has anyone reported slipping?

J CREW: Not that I’m aware of, Mr. Owen. Have you had such an incident?

ME: Well, as I said, I’m usually pretty careful about walking slowly when it’s wet out, so I’ve avoided flip-flop-related head injury, although I have a nasty eyebrow scar from Harwood Halloween. But I feel like your product should come with a warning that, when it is raining, the wearer must assume a sluggish pace or risk death.

J CREW: I think many of our customers wear their flip-flops primarily in fair weather, Mr. Owen. Can you wear something else on rainy days?

ME: Of course. But this is Southern California, and we don’t have as many occasions to wear, say, your Suede Hacking Jacket with Quartered Pockets in almond as we do to wear flip-flops. They are practically an all-weather item, and as college students most of us are economically bound to get as much out of our purchases as possible, with the exception of alcohol, which is inherently a loss, but that is a separate issue.

J CREW: I’m glad your purchase has mostly worked well for you, sir, but I guess I’ll have to recommend that you wear something else when it’s wet outside.

ME: What about puddles?

J CREW:

J CREW: What do you mean?

ME: Well, say it’s a perfectly sunny day by all appearances, but there is an insidious sprinkler watering the sidewalk just outside the door of my residence hall. And what if I don’t see the water gathering on the pavement, because I am too busy looking at the perfectly sunny day? That could be disastrous.

J CREW: I advise you to exercise caution, Mr. Owen.

ME: Nonetheless, I would like stock options. That seems fair.

J CREW:

At this point, our conversation ends. Evelyn refers me to her supervisor, who offers me 10 percent off my next purchase at J. Crew. I accept, although the only things I ever buy at J. Crew are $6.99 flip flops—which I obviously am not self-destructive enough to purchase again—because everything else is made for Square People. I have decided, having been frustrated in my (justified) bid to assume ownership of the company, to absorb the $14.90 loss, wear my flip-flops on those days which strike me as fitting and, as Evelyn suggested, exercise caution. Let this be a warning to all of you, readers. The faceless entity behind that glossy catalog which endeavors to seduce you with its aloof wool pants is flagrantly unconcerned about your death, which is inevitable should you wear the aloof wool pants. I am only offering advice; like Evelyn, I don’t want to overstep my bounds and say something that might undermine high-quality customer service. I say only this: flip-flop buyers, look out.

From LanaJae's email response from JCrew : However,
at this time, the item is not available.
But the thing is....they ARE still showing up on the website. JCrew seems to skirt right over that issue. I can go on their site right now and order the flamingo flip flops I had on order (which was cancelled for the $5.25 price) for regular price ($24). They simply do not want to honor the $5.25 price. They are blowing smoke to all of us with their lame email responses.

Thanks for the chuckle Tonya ! :rotfl:

What's not available is the 07 wedge style which is what they were selling for $5.25 and what's on the website now is the 08 style without the heel but it's unfortunate that only a few of us got the 08 style as a substitute before they put a stop to that.

That JCrew phone conversation was hilarious!!:lmao:

That was the perfect way of putting it, I wrote something similar and ordered the same item in two different colors. Let us know if you get a response :)

I just sent the following response to the e-mail others got today, mentioning a replacement:

I would like to order item number item 81437 - Classic Grosgrain Flip-flops - Sandals & Flip-flops - Women - JCrew.com - under the same terms as my original order. $5.25 with free shipping. Please contact me with payment instructions.

We'll see what happens. Probably nothing. LOL.

I'm still a little suspicious, it doesn't say what the price is. LOL. We'll see!

It's really disgusting that they would treat customers like this. So they made a mistake, they could at least be honest. I'm okay with not getting the shoes, but this baloney is irritating.

I just sent my 4th e-mail to them. This is AWFUL customer service. They so kindly offered me free shipping if I pay full price. Uhhh, the advertised price was $5.25, not $26.50 :confused3 . I said in my e-mail that if I was in a store and an item was incorrectley advertised for a low price, I would guarantee that the incorrect price WOULD be honored. What really irks me is the inconsistent way that they are handling this.

Jeanne.....what I am seeing on the website now, looks exactly like what I ordered ? The original flamingo flip flops I ordered for the $5.25 sale price did not have a wedge ?
Ok....just went back and checked the site....the flip flops say they're 3/4 inch insole. There is no wedge. I do see other flip flops there with wedges, but the ones I originally ordered and what is there now look the same. I would have noticed if it was a wedge, because I was ordering the flip flops for vacations (namely wdw) and I wouldn't be comfortable walking all day in wedges. Now, I buy Teva Mush sandals which are really comfortable and have no wedge. So I suppose I could be wrong (not trying to argue), but I swear the flip flops online now look exactly the same as what I ordered on 2/11.

I absolutely agree.

J. Crew had to know there was a "mistake" in pricing on their website, and chose not to immediately pull the shoes. This deal was posted all over the internet.

So instead of canceling all the orders in a timely & appropriate way, they send some of the shoes to customers, waitlisting and then canceling others. When people complain? Some get replacement shoes, others get lame excuses and pitiful "compensation". No rhyme nor reason to any of it.

As I pointed out in my post upthread, I'm extremely skeptical that I'll actually get replacement shoes & be billed correctly. :sad2:

I just clicked on my original link I provided on the 10th and it shows the wedge flip-flop which is what I got in the mail last week. What DD has coming in the mail as the substitute is the non-wedge flip-flop which is the 08 style. But regardless, it looks like a couple people here are having luck getting the new style as a substitute after lots of complaining but it's always frustrating when you have to complain and complain in order to get something that should have been honored in the first place.:sad2:

I think some of these online sites unexpectedly get overloaded with many orders in a short period of time because of websites like slickdeals, fatwallet, DISboards, etc, where tons of people see a deal that they wouldn't normally see without these bargain sites. Some honor the deals, some don't, it's usually 50/50 but it's frustrating when you're on the losing end of the deal.

Well after my email to them today telling them that I wanted the new style for the same deal as the old style and the free shipping this is the email I got back tonight...... We have placed the order for the two pairs of new sandals that you've
referenced on your email. We appreciate you providing the information
requested. The new order number is . Your package will
arrive in

When I check the order status, I see the right shoes ordered but they are showing a price of 19.60. Nothing has posted to my credit card yet so we will see what charge actually shows up. It will get really ugly if they put it through as the 19 and not the 5.

DD's substitute pair was showing up on my order status as $24.50 but only $4 and change was charged to my cc so you should be fine.:)

This is what I got a few days ago:

This keeps getting better and better. Yesterday I sent them yet another scathing email that it was unfair of them to pick and choose customers who would get the replacements and not others. I also copied and pasted some of the confirmations in my email.

I was in the shower and got a message this morning from "susan" at Jcrew asking me to call her back. I called back and she was busy so I gave the info to a young man who told me that JCrew will be getting a shipment of the critter wedge sandals after all in April - and if I would like - I can order them for full price with 20% off for 2 pairs and they will extend free shipping to me. I told him no thanks and just sent another scathing email.

I don't know how a company can give so many different answers to people!

I got yet another email from them this morning saying they had placed the order for the new sandles at the 5.25 price and charged that to my card but they forgot to add the 20% discount. They said the credit would show up on my card in 2-3 days and that the sandles would ship on 2-22. I checked my cc online and they are currently holding the 10.50. Progress, keep trying girls!

After another call to JCrew, they gave me the regular critter sandals at $5.25 per pair with free shipping. They said I could wait until April and get the wedge sandals if I wanted to. I decided to take the regular ones they have right now because who knows if they'll ever get that other shipment in April and if they will honor the price then. Also I have a pair of their wedge flip flops and they are not as easy to walk in as the flatter heels. It took some work, but I finally got a resolution!

I just got mine also. I called and said that I am on a web board and other are getting the critter flip lops for 5.25 he gladly ordered mine and they will be here next wed.:thumbsup2

I just sent this message to them after getting a message back saying they could not give me the $5.25 price.

I find your response absolutely unacceptable. It has come to my attention that J.Crew has made a mistake but has made many different accommodations to various customers that may favor one customer over another. I am confident that my order has not been dealt with as equally as another customer whom has purchased the same sale merchandise. I ask you why J.Crew has handled this mistake with such disorganization and inequality? Your customer service team has apologized but the discrepancy but the end result is that I am not getting the same accommodations as many other customers in my situation. As a result I would like for J.Crew to honor the purchase price I have agreed to and extend to me a comparable replacement with the terms of my original order. I am confident that the terms of my request has been made by other customers and J.Crew has been accommodating to those request and in all fairness my request should be granted.

tinytink - I don't get how they can say those things to you! I was just told this morning that YES INDEED they are getting a shipment of critter wedge sandals in April. And then they offered the regular critters as replacement. Of course, this was AFTER I emailed back and forth with them 5 times and then finally called someone.
