Hi! I am waiting on getting into the system on a resale contract that should be near closing. I have mailed all our paperwork and wired the cash balance. I have a Sept UY and am receiving 290 banked points from 2004, 290 points from 2005 (not banked, unfortunately), and have 290 coming on Sept 1...

What are my best options at this point? I have thought of some, but maybe not all... so I am turning to the experts here on the Boards! :thumbsup2

Wow! You can always just share :rotfl2:

You can book a cruise, you can sell some, take extra people with you, so you use up more points.

I don't know if you have stayed in a DVC resort before, but once you go for the first time, your mind won't ever stop planning your next trip. You will be drawn to going, and will end up going far more than you ever did before.

Thats a lot of points.......congrats on the resale. The 290 from 04 will expire if you don't use them by Sept 1. If you are not planning on traveling I would consider renting them to some one. That way you can at least get some cash. The 05 points just bank them........when and if you travel in 06UY MS will utilize those 05 points first.

Congrats on the sweet contract! I am not an expert, but here goes. You are too late to bank 100 percent of the 2005 points, but, if you get in the system prior to May 31st, you can bank half of the 2005 points. With the other points, gee, the cruise is a great idea, or try to put them in for an exchange at II, or plan a summer trip to the world, there are lots of possibilities. You could also rent them, or donate to a charity, like Give the kids the world. The great thing about points is that they are flexible! Have fun planning!

Thanks everyone for your input so far!

Is transferring an option with my banked 2004 points? How about the 2005 points? If points are transferred to another member, how do they track when they will expire in the member's account? Do they go into some kind of Hold Status?

You can not transfer points that have been previously banked, borrowed or transferred, so your 2004 UY points that have already been booked into your 2005 UY are in a use it or lose it status. You can schedule a vacation before 09/01/2006, rent a vacation before 09/01/2006, or use these as Interval International points, which I think can add up to 2 years of 'life' to them.

Paging Dean, Paging Mr. Dean Morrow, where are you?

(Dean is THE Timeshare expert!)

Holding status points can be transferred, but they retain their holding status.

Holding Points can not be banked.

Hope This helps,

-Tony

You'll have to use the 2004 points by Sept. plus whatever 2005 points you can't bank probably over 50% by now, sure someone will give you the exact number ,if not there is a chart on the DVC page. Bank the remainder of the 05 points for 06UY and use them first in 06UY. If you have 2006 points your not going to need remember to watch your banking deadlines. Can get a little confusing with the use year when yours is late in the year. My UY is Dec. so I'm using 05uy points this year and get 06uy points to use in 07.

We have communicated by PM. Short answer is ask for the one time banking exception, bank what can be based on when you get in the system, rent them, use them for DVC or use them for other options (CC, DC, DCL, etc). One could also try to "trade" them to another member for future considerations. The one I liked best is seeing if DVC would let the OP book a cruise for next year and use the banked and current use years points. As I understand it, that would definitely work for a cruise that occurred in the 2007 use year and might or might not for one in the 2006 use year. An II deposit would be OK too but likely not the best option.

Thanks so much to everyone! I truly feel like a DVC member... your WELCOME HOMES are so appreciated by a new member! Special thanks go out to Tony and Dean for your PM's and all the extra info you have provided! :wave2:

I guess it now comes down to what Disney MS will let me do... I'll have to try for the one time exception first... and/or the Cruise. 2007 would be optimal! And renting/transferring points is always an option. It's just the 2004 banked points which are so worrisome! I'd have to actually find availability to book a reservation for someone.

Tammy~ the idea of donating them to charity is also good! See, I knew if I put this out to the Boards, so many of you would come up with ideas I wouldn't think of!

And FISHERMOUSE! :clown: YOU, are SOOO funny!

Don't forget you can use multiple options and likely will need to when talking almost 600 points to be dealt with in the next couple of months.
