Expedition Everest - Intensity and Motion Sickness??

I'm slowly working up to trying most rides at WDW. I experience pretty severe motion sickness, but with the use of Meclizine every day I can handle more than I can without. I still feel it though so I'm pretty cautious. Spinning things like the Tea Cups are still totally out. Star Tours I can't see myself managing as it seems too similar to the old Body Wars ride which was the absolute worst.

This past year I tried R&RC and Tower of Terror and I can't say I would ever do them again. R&RC left me pretty queasy and I had to close my eyes almost right away and just clung to the restraint praying it would end, LOL. But I recovered without too much trouble afterwards, sat down and was okay within maybe 15 minutes or so. Tower of Terror made me feel awful. Not exactly nauseous but like my stomach flip flopped and was lodged up inside my chest and my head felt all wonky and the feeling continued for a good couple of hours after the ride. Never want to experience that again.

Of the rides I've still never done, (Mission Space, Star Tours, Space Mountain and EE) Expedition Everest is the only one that I look at and think, maaaaaaybe I can manage. But I'd love some feedback from others about the level of intensity with this ride and how it affected you if you have motion sickness. I've read it's the backwards part that is the worst, but I don't know how long that part lasts.

Any comparisons to other rides in the parks would be helpful too.

Thanks!!

The backwards corkscrew is intense. If you survived RRC, you would survive. I'm not sure you would enjoy it though. I think it's slightly less intense than RRC. I love EE, but I can't ride it over and over like I did in my younger days. It does make me dizzy.

I would put all 3 of those rides (EE, RnRC, and ToT) on the high end of mild, maaaybe low end of moderate intensity as far as rides go. I definitely don't see EE as being more intense than the other two.
I'm guessing the reasoning for Space Mountain is the motion sickness? Because it is definitely not intense.

Oooh, I had no idea it was a corkscrew too. I just knew it went backwards. Is that part also in the dark? I think the darkness drastically intensified things for me on R&RC.

Indeed. This is the part that gets me.

Expedition does not go upside down, if that’s what this means by corkscrew. It just feels like it going backwards, but it doesn’t actually.

Yes, Space Mountain seems to cause a lot of motion sickness for people so I've stayed away. Jerkiness and being in the dark seem to be big factors and both are problems for me. I suppose if EE isn't worse than the other two I may give it a try just to say I did it. I know my twins want to try it and I'd like to go with them if I can.

Yes, the backwards corkscrew is in the dark. Motion sickness is not usually an issue for me except for the teacups and Mission Space Orange, but I must admit that I’ve gotten off EE feeling a little nauseated the last few years, and I can’t ride it multiple times in a row like I used to. Based on your descriptions of how various rides affect you, I’m not sure EE will be one you can enjoy.

The backward part makes my husband sick. He's tried it twice and each time he's sick the rest of the day. I'd probably stay away.

I get Motion Sickness easily. Expedition Everest is really fun and not too wild BUT I do get very sick on it. I get sick on most coasters now but the dark, backward section makes it worse.
I still do the coaster some of the time as they are all fun.
Motion simulators are even worse. Mission Space green was bad for me. I would love to do the orange side but do not dare.

Mission Space Green was like nothing for me. Then I tried Orange because my husband said it wasn't bad. I had to try very hard not to throw up. That and when I was stuck for a couple minutes in one spot on Forbidden Journey that kept moving up and down are the only two times I thought I might actually hurl on a ride. I've gotten motion sick on other rides, but those are the only two I thought I might throw up.

OP, EE is less intense than RNRC, so you'll survive, but it probably won't be enjoyable.

I think EE is more intense than RNRC. The backward part is pretty intense, I don’t get sick though. What bothers me is the feeling of pressure from the speed. It’s a bearing down feeling, like a force pushing your body down lol. If that makes any sense. I love the ride though!

The backward motion on EE gets me queasy too. The only way I can tolerate that part is if I half turn around and look behind me... which gives a sense of forward motion. Sounds crazy but it’s the only way that I can ride it without feeling sick.

I love Tower of Terror - up And down doesn’t mess with equilibrium.

Never again - Star Tours. Nausea.

probably not - FOP, Smuggler’s Run. Nausea. Need to sit down immediately after.

I love RnRC. The fast forward is fun. But the sudden stop Is hard on the system. By the time I walk out, I’m recovered.

Space Mountain - overall shakiness, rough ride. Not interested anymore.

BTMRR and 7DMT are a little intense, but no residual effects.

Going back in May before a long break before I visit WDW again. Expedition is high on my list of what I want to repeat. I have tried riding it multiple times in a row in the past and that was unpleasant.

I have never had a ride ruin my day. Just a little sit down recovery time and I am okay.

My family believes Expedition is the best rollercoaster in WDW. Outdoors, on tracks.

I used to throw up on spinning backyard kids rides. Needed medicine to fly on jets or take cruises. I can now travel without needing meds or a patch.

I would encourage you to try EE if you feel up to it. Just once. Not when you have to stand in heat ahead of time. And not if it will ruin your day.

My favorite rides at Disney: Soarin’, Rise of the Resistance, TS Midway Mania, Kilimanjaro Safari, RocknRollercoaster, Expedition Everest, Skyliner & Monorail (they are rides, too), BTMRR, 7DMT, Tower of Terror, maybe MMRR (only done it once) and the ride home at the end of the day. In that order.

The entire ride is 2:50 minutes. Backwards seems a small part of that. Then you really go fast (up to 50 mph).

I just watched a YT video of the ride. Backwards motion is 24 seconds.

Ride only has lap bars; no need for shoulder bars, as you don’t do upside down.

Strobe lights in dark areas can cause nausea; close your eyes.

And look straight in front of you. Don’t look side to side. (I have to do this when riding in the car).

Even watching rollercoaster videos can make me queasy; I did okay watching this ride. (it was the walking in the queue that bothered me).

Fun fact, there are plenty of roller coasters out there that go upside down and only have a lap bar, I love those. And there are a handful that don't go upside down, but still have the over the shoulder restraints.
