What if you accidentally leave the magic band at home? This is something I can see us doing? Can we just get new ones when we check in?

I apologize if this has been asked, or if the answer is obvious. I got my Magicbands but I have no idea how to set up a PIN. I've looked on my MDE but don't see a place to do it, what am I missing? Thank you in advance for help!

ETA I see what the problem is, in MDE it says that my PINS are set, but I did not set any and this is the first time we have ever used MBs. Did they just use the previous PINs dh and I had on our KTTW cards?

One more question, I only need the PIN for purchases right? I do not need to type the PIN in for any other MB use? If not then its no big deal that I can't remember what it is, I won't be using it for purchases.

You can reset your PIN when you complete online check-in. You only need to use your PIN for purchases that will be charged to your room account.

I already did online check-in, but never set a PIN when I did. Now it says that I need to go to the front desk to change it. If its just for purchases I'm not going to worry about it. I just didn't want to not be able to get into the room. Thanks for the info.

It's under the profile -> payment options. There's a spot for that CC to use and the pin.

Pin is used for dining plan and bill to room purchases. If for some reason you can't find it, you can set it at the front desk when you get there. If you've had one in the past, it's the same still.

Not really sure the protocol but they will be generic gender neutral grey ones if disney gives you a new one. If you want somthing different you have to purchase it...

Basically, don't forget them and pack them in your carry on if your taking a plane.

Thank you so much Accident, I was able to change it. I think its probably the same one but I wasn't sure. I took the dining plan off our reservation but I think I'm adding it back before we get there so I guess I will need the pin.

Question about magic bands for the kiddos. We have a split stay so the kids will have two bands each. In the event that they lose one, are they able to just use the backup with issue? In the event one is lost is there anything I need to do? They're only 4 & 5 so will not have any charging privileges so I'm not worried about it from a monetary standpoint.

Yep - they're just two different things to access the same information.

To add to this, deactivate the band if it's lost. You'll find it from the website or the my disney experience app. It's under profile -> magicbands and cards. Just deactivate the band you no longer want to function. In the event you find it later, you can reactivate it. If you want to go an extra step, you can report it lost to front desk, concierge, or guest relations. Same deal if you report it lost it will show as lost in your profile but you can reactivate it on your own. Reporting it is probably overkill but if you have time it does help disney know there might be a design change they can make in the future if many are loosing it.

I personally just deactivate it because it is a functional room key that doesn't require a pin and it's peace of mind for me that it's lost and not working.

Has anyone purchased one of the D-Tech custom MagicBands in Tomorrowland? Do you have to pay for it in a separate transaction by itself or can you include other items from that particular gift shop so your total could be greater than $50 thus enabling the Disney Visa 10% off? Thanks for any advice you can give me! :-)

You create your magicband from the "terminals" and each gets a custom code. Then you take the code up to the register and pay for it like anything else. About 20-40 minutes later you pick it up.

side note: be ready to write down that code or take a photo of it with your phone is what I do.

Awesome! Thank you so much!

I honestly think that's stale information in MDE that hasn't been updated. AFAIK you never have to go to the front desk. You can set and reset your PIN in the app at will. I do believe as you surmised the PIN that was in your account already was from your previous non-MagicBand stay. Same with us last month. But we just reset the PIN in MDE for our new MagicBands and did not need to go to the front desk before making purchases with our MBs, even though MDE said we had to.

I need to clarify that section a little better as it has improved in the last year but there is still 1 case I know of where you may need the front desk (linked mde accounts and having the person linked get your pin as well).

I have a DVC room booked for 4 people. My sister and cousin may not make it, so they are holding off on buying a park ticket until we arrive.

Should they decide they cannot come, their MagicBands would be useless, correct? In other words, there is no ticket tied to them, so they cannot be used, correct?

They would work for room key while your there if they were still on the reservation when you check in. Other than that, they can save them for a future trip as magicbands stay linked to a person forever.

Are the Magic Bands on the Disney store the new thinner ones?
We are going to the Swan in December and think it might be time for some new ones. I think ours are three years old and the plain solid colors

Thanks

That's a good question, being a disneystore that isn't in the disney park I would question how fast the magicband stock rotates so I wouldn't be surprised if the older style is still on the shelf since the new ones aren't that old and don't need to be rotated for battery yet.

If the ride photos are important, I would get some new ones otherwise the old ones should work just fine. If your going to buy some, I would wait until your at property when the selection is much more diverse to choose from. Your old bands will still function for anything you touch the band to make work it's just going to be a couple rides and their photo/videos where it won't work.

Thanks for this great thread. I did a search but can't find the answer to 2 questions. If I link my Disney Visa to my magic band, will I automatically get the 10% discount where applicable or do I still need to pay with the actual card
Also my husband wan s to reuse his band he purchased at the 2015 SWW, I understand the battery might be a problem, but if that is still working what do we need to do to make sure ADRs FP etc are linked to that band
TIA
