Ever cook in your hotel room?

I'm sitting here comfortably smug in the knowledge that I drink tea. Thank goodness.
Me too. And I never use the coffee pot to heat up my tea water because it always tastes like coffee anyway when you do that.

Pantyhose...I wear them. Call the fashion Police. I wear them when I am dressed up IF I am wearing a dressy closed toe shoe. I am fat and middle aged, do not have legs like Carmen Diaz and pantyhose help them look a little better. I do not, however, wear them at Disneyworld and when I do wear them, I will either wash them out in the sink in a hotel room if necessary or wait till I get home and put them in my nice little lingerie bag to do in the washer. Imagine that! Washing clothing in the appliance that is actually INTENDED to wash clothing. The last time I wore pantyhose was to my nephew's wedding in May with a nice dressy black closed toe shoe.

As far as people using the iron to cook...well, I don't iron on vacation either, so while I disagree with it for safety reasons, it's not like I'd be getting cheese on any of my clothes. ;)

I have no prioblem with people bringing some food in an attempt to save a little bit of money....when I was a kid, we travelled with the proverbial cooler...."cooler" being the operative word. Food that needed to be kept cool and could be eaten cool. Not food that required using an iron to heat it.

First of all, the people that do this are not going to give a rat's patootie what anyone thinks of them. They, obviously, do not care. If it was important to me to cook in a room, I would make sure I had a room that I could do that, such as the family suites at ASMu, or one of the DVC resorts. I would not equip my room for cooking, if it was not intended, or use appliances for reasons other than what they were intended for. Imagine the bride that is there on her wedding day and irons her pretty white dress only to get some cheese on it = stained! :scared1: But, apparently, according to some poster's on another thread, it is her fault because she should have checked said iron to make sure there was not said cheese on it. Really? I am not one to assume but I'm willing to bet no cheese on an iron should be a safe bet. Guess I was wrong. Now I have another excuse not to iron. :lmao: To those that want to save a few bucks. What is wrong with PB&J, cold cuts, tuna, chicken salad, fruit platters, things that don't have to be cooked???

Ok, so the no-hose/self-tanner thing--do you put the self tanner all the way up or just high enough so when you sit you don't see a line--you know, kind of like how you shave your legs in a hurry :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Then, with the no-hose thing, what about sweaty feet?? Do you wear pumps without hose or only strappy sandals???

:thumbsup2

Kate never makes a fashion mistake. Her legs always look amazing....as seen here...http://www.people.com/people/package/article/0,,20395222_20508318,00.html

I hope she can revolutionize what the world has come to accept as proper attire. I'd say less than 1/4 of the women I see going bare-legged have the legs to do so. Then they try to cover up the spider/varicose veins, stubble, dry skin, stretch marks, random bumps, etc. with a snooki-esque self-tan color of orange to give them a "natural" glow.

Give me a $30 pair of hose anyday. And, wash them in the sink for goodness sakes, not the coffee pot!!!!

OK, pardon me if I read thru this thread too fast and someone has already brought it up. If not, how in the heck is it that no one has brought up one of the Disboards most infamous threads, the HOW DO I COOK A BIRTHDAY CAKE IN MY ROOM??

That thread was the only reason I opened this one!

You could use a crock pot and make a crock pot cake. I have never tried it but I have heard they are good. Just be careful when you light the candles. You don't want the fire alarms going off.

You can make one of those chocolate volcano cakes (or whatever they're called) in a rice cooker. DS's teacher did last year. It was awesome. And delicious. :lmao:

No, I don't get creative cooking in the room. If there is a microwave, I might heat something up. If there's a toaster, I might make an english muffin or toast a bagel or something.

I think it's disgusting people would use the coffee maker as an alternate to hand washing things like pantyhose, socks and underwear. And it's super inconsiderate to leave food residue on something like an iron so that unsuspecting people will end up ruining their clothes.

If people need, want or have to cook in their hotel rooms...they should stay in rooms that are properly equipped for cooking.

This wasn't at Disney, but once I used a hair dryer to heat up some leftover pizza for breakfast.

We bought a cheap toaster and made toast at the Poly---had stuff in frig too. I will NEVER use a coffee pot again in a hotel after reading this thread. I would never cook cook in a crock pot or anything like that. To save a few bucks no. If you need food in the room do the cold cuts, cereals, etc. We did breakfast in room daily and would go offsite for one meal a day and eat in park the other. We did refillable mugs too.

Ok...the thought of using a hairdryer to warm something up totally skeeves me out. The thought of what could be blowing out of those hairdryers onto my food before I consume it is just gross!

We've stayed at beach hotels where we used their outdoor grills and the microwave to make small meals like London broil with frozen vegetables or hot dogs with beans. The idea of using an iron or hair dryer to cook or heat food with is totally skeevy to me.

One time, we stayed at the Aztec Motel in Seaside Heights, and there was a foreign family staying in a room nearby who cooked all kinds of stuff in an electric frying pan. Some of what they cooked smelled pretty bad. I wanted to complain to the hotel manager because the smells were so gross, but I felt kind of sorry for these people. They had a bunch of kids and cooking meals in the room was probably the only way they could afford to stay at the beach. Plus I figured the hotel manager should smell it him/herself.

I can't believe you are the only one who posted that remembers this! That was a thread that should be in the top 10 ever of memorable Disboard threads.

So before anyone else suggest a crockpot or rice cooker (I swear I'm not picking on anyone that has) don't. This was a VERY heated thread. Bottom line: If you can afford Disney, you can afford to spring for a birthday cake at Goodings when you get there. Don't feel like anyone has given you fair warning. The OP was flamed like there was no tomorrow. Sorry to be dramatic with the font, but I felt that post deserved it!

This is what I don't get either. :confused3 I'd rather wear hose than end up with blisters from the chafing of bare feet & sandals. Ouch! :headache:

Well you learn something new everyday and I just learned that I never want to used the coffee maker in a hotel room ever again! :scared1:

And no I don't cook in a hotel room, I hardly cook at home!;)

I wouldn't be caught dead cooking in a hotel room. With my luck the crock pot cord would catch on fire and burn the place down, thus ruining my entire vacation, and undoubtedly, everyone else's in the hotel.

As for the pantyhose, I haven't worn them in years. However, the ones that Kate Middleton wears (rumored to be $60 a pair), look great! As long as you stay away from the old Sheer Energy heavy duty , hold-back-a-charging-rhino support hose, I think they are fine.

Having said that, I would never spend $60 on a pair of pantyhose. My track record of putting my hand through them the first shot out of the bag would stop me in my tracks.

But the old Sheer Energy heavy duty were practically indestructable! And they kept the legs warm in winter. They were like wearing see-thru tights. :thumbsup2

When I found out my dollar store had $1 pantyhose, and could wear hose once and toss them, (they usually got destroyed by the end of the day anyway, :headache: ) I was in heaven. :cloud9: No more wasting $5 and ending up with a snag in the first hour.
gah.gif
A $1 snag was easier to take. When I was working an office job, I just factored in the $25 per month pantyhose fee into budget.

:rotfl: Truer words were never spoken.

Well since I do not cook in my bathroom or bedroom at home I am not going to rent a hotel room so I can pay for that privilege. Gross. If I cannot afford to eat while on vacation then I will save more money while I am at home. I also don't bring a pack of rolls with me like I have seen mentioned on the budget board. I will get stuff that is easy to eat like pop tarts or snacks like chips and fruit because I like to relax and have a snack at night but that is it. No housekeeping and no cooking on vacation!
