Ever cook in your hotel room?

This thread makes me regret having used the coffee pot to clean nipples for my son's bottles at Disney in 2009.

Not that I ever put them in the coffepot, just using the water from it to clean them icks me out now! Ew!

I wouldn't cook on a short vacation other than cereal and sandwiches because I wouldn't want to spend my precious vacation time doing something I could do at home. However, I'm in a hotel now, and you betcha I'm going to cook! We're moving, and after 5 nights on a ship to get here (with overpriced fast food), I am sick of restaurant food! We'll be in a hotel for a week while looking for a rental, and we can't afford to eat out all the time anyway. I'm having a bit of sticker shock as it is since Alaska seems to have expensive restaurants.

I wouldn't cook on an iron, though. I brought an electric skillet, and our hotel has a fridge and a microwave.

The pantyhose stories are sicking me out, too. :scared1:

Dexter at Pop must be a huge cabbage roll fan, because he gave it a big thumb's up! :lmao:

This was actually the thread that got me thinking (a very dangerous thing). I was in the middle of a discussion (lol) and basically was told that it was my responsiblity to check the appliances because people do funny things with them.

Now I totally admit to probably being a bit clueless especially when I'm on vacation, I just totally admit to never thinking of checking the coffee pot because some one may have made hot dogs or chili in it.

What the heck goes on at teh Pop! ;)

OMFreakingG!! I would be so pissed ~ SO PISSED ~ if I was in a room next to, or above Mr Cabbage Man. WOW!

I have to walk six miles (not really...but it feels like it, when I'm groggy in the morning) to a smoking section, as to not bother anyone with my "offensive" smoke, but people are cooking CABBAGE ROLLS IN THEIR ROOM, in a CROCK POT that simmers ALL FLIPPING DAY??!? Crazy. Nuts.

That's kinda cool. Very good idea. :thumbsup2

See.... I toss out that water boiler, after the trip is over. ***GASP!!*** Not only am I eating out every meal, I'm throwing money away by tossing a $15 water boiler thing-a-ma-jig. I'm really naughty. pirate:

. Not a smoker but I completely agree with you. I am sure the ones who are constantly complaining about the smoke and how offensive it is are the same ones cooking up chuckwagon in their room. To tell you the truth I think I would rather smell the smoke than the smell of cooking food in a hotel room. If you have a need to cook on vacation for whatever reasons than you need to select accommodations that give you the proper facilities to do so

No, I never have. That's gross.
I won't use hotel room coffee makers because of things I've heard on here...

No. Yes. Not help, Self Tanner. :)

Ok, so the no-hose/self-tanner thing--do you put the self tanner all the way up or just high enough so when you sit you don't see a line--you know, kind of like how you shave your legs in a hurry :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Then, with the no-hose thing, what about sweaty feet?? Do you wear pumps without hose or only strappy sandals???

I used to travel around conventions with my business and had a whole setup for cooking that went with me. I had a microwave, an electric kettle, and a single electric hotplate. I'd make soups, some convenience-type foods, reheat leftovers, popcorn, etc. No, I never made anything that smelled strong and I never left anything unattended for safety reasons. I also never wanted to use the hotels' stuff for preparing my meals for the reasons in this thread. Sure it was a bit of a pain to pack/set up, but well worth the savings of not eating out, especially toward the end of those days when the economy crashed and took my business with it. :(

We also stayed in a 1BR at DAKL for 28 days and heck, yeah, I cooked there. The crockpot and the George Foreman were my best friends.

I believe you are not supposed to wear hose anymore for any kind of fancy attire, but it's required for business attire with close-toed shoes.

Now, this generally sends me into a depressive spiral of doom come every summer, because my legs are so white I have actually brought down fighter jets when errant reflections off my skin blinded their pilots, but we must sacrifice to be beautiful.

Okay, even *I* know that hose only goes with closed-toed shoes!

Not talking cold sandwiches or cereal. I mean cook as in crock pot and/or using the iron to make grilled cheese sandwiches.

In a normal hotel room (no kitchenette) just beds, tv and bathroom, how much cooking do you do that involves plugging in a major appliance?

I'm just curious because I was told recently that I should start checking the hotel irons for food residue because people use them to make food.

totally admit that this never crossed my mind and was wondering how many people do this.

I would never ever do this and personally find it disgusting. If people have to crock pot, use irons for sandwich making or using hot plates to actually get their nutrition, I really think they should not be in a hotel, but perhaps use the ROOM cost to Get a decent meal/s for their family, really!!
I think its almost sad...or am I missing something here?

That was just unnecessary.

There are people that wear hose for fine dining and such.

Well if they're too good to hand wash said hosiery, then can just make sure they pack enough for the week. It's not like we're talking about something that takes up much space in the suitcase. Because someone's crotch covering in a cooking device is just gross.

:eek::eek: hotdogs, chili :eek::eek::eek:Now Ive heard everything!:eek:

Oh, and no, I haven't & won't cook in the hotel room. If we had an unexpected trip come up, like a funeral or something, and money was tight, I'd draw the line at in room "cooking" at pb&j or deli meat & cheese sandwiches if we had a fridge.

Folks, don't worry. The poster who mentioned the cabbage rolls was joking! But sadly, the ones who used the iron to make grilled cheese or quesidallas were not. And as to Dexter who said it's ok to bring a crockpot to the room, well, we all know how unreliable that sort of phone call is. Most of the time, those people don't know.

Oh I even cook with my iron at home, it just makes total sense, I mean why buy a George Forman grill when you have a perfectly good iron that could do the job. :confused3 And doesn't everyone put dirty socks in their coffee maker? It just makes it taste more like dark roast than the normal stuff.

But seriously, that is a little messed up. I have thought about cooking with an electric grill outside my hotel room on the balcony, but I haven't actually done it yet.

No. If I'm in a hotel room, I'm probably on vacation. If I wanted to cook, I'd stay at home.

This! :thumbsup2 I find it a little odd that people want to cook up a meal in their hotel rooms when there are so many choices of places to eat. Besides I cook 7days a week I sure the heck don't want to be doing that on vacation esp with an iron or little grill. :confused3

The poster talking about cabbage rolls was saying that tongue in cheek. ;)

However, the people talking about making grilled cheese and quesadilla's with irons were not. :headache:

Do those not have kitchens?

We're DVC members and I don't even cook in those rooms. :lmao: Maybe if you're lucky I will toast you up a bagel otherwise the cook is on vacation....

If somebody needs to make a quesadilla with a hotel iron because they cannot afford to pay for a meal from a restaurant or even a fast food joint then they cannot afford to be in a hotel to begin with.
This.
Frankly using appliances for things for which they were not intended could endanger the lives of everyone in that hotel should a major fire start.

OMG! There used to be some fantastic threads around the Dis of people doing this at Disney. They took toasters, microwaves, crockpots, etc., and cooked up all sorts of things. I know of one guy who lives near me, who took a cooler full of food and a little grill. He cooked on his truck's tailgate at one of the Values for their meals.
You know what? As long as he was outside and left the hot grill in his truck and never brought it into the hotel building itself, I don't have a major problem with this.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this! Not having a good way to wash out my hose has kept me from many a hotel stay. Washing out my hose is my daily top priority, so again, thank you.
Am I detecting a note of sarcasm??????;)
