Ever cook in your hotel room?

On wild weekends away with the girls, I have been known to heat up a mean left over crab imperial using the foil it was wrapped in and a hair dryer:rolleyes1 Not because we were broke but because it was 3 in the morning and hungry:lmao:

We're DVC members and I don't even cook in those rooms. :lmao: Maybe if you're lucky I will toast you up a bagel otherwise the cook is on vacation....

If somebody needs to make a quesadilla with a hotel iron because they cannot afford to pay for a meal from a restaurant or even a fast food joint then they cannot afford to be in a hotel to begin with.

First off, I have never cooked in a hotel room, beyond heating something up in a microwave. It is disgusting and beyond cheap. I just don't see any circumstance where it would be exceptable (well, maybe during a zombie apocalypse;)).

In regards to the above quote, as I'm sure you know, not everyone who stays in a hotel room is on vacation. I could definitely see circumstances that would cause people to do this. Family emergency causes them to stay in a hotel and they don't even have the money for that. Of course, if that is the situation, the they should stick to some sandwiches. Cold sandwiches, no iron necessary.

OMG

I seriously don't know which I'm more :scared1: by,

The thought of someone's dirty pantyhose soaking in the coffee pot - that I routinely use, or

The thought of wearing pantyhose - at Disney.

:rotfl2:

Now, this generally sends me into a depressive spiral of doom come every summer, because my legs are so white I have actually brought down fighter jets when errant reflections off my skin blinded their pilots, but we must sacrifice to be beautiful.
:lmao:

I thought that it was against fire codes to cook in hotel rooms. :confused3

We camp, so I guess we don't have to worry about it.

Oh, and I vote no hose. :goodvibes

No, I am on vacation and that means no cooking. Besides, I don't know what kind of food anyone would want to eat that is cooked in their hotel room. I can understand the microwave and I thrown in a french bread pizza in there sometimes but that is as far as I am willing to go.

I barely cook at home, so there is no way that I am going to cook while I am on vacation!

I now have to check for bed bugs and crumbs on the iron when we check in, and remember to never use the coffee pot. I love the Dis, you just learn so darn much!:goodvibes

I also don't wear pantyhose... ;)

We've been DVC'rs since 1993, so I've had a kitchen on vacation for a long time. I do cook while at WDW, just like home, no biggie. However, it has spoiled me for any other overnight stays. I pack enough food to feed an army, and we always rent a condo/townhome, so we can spread out.

I can't imagine doing anything more than chips/sodas/breakfast bars in a standard hotel room. If it's perishable, I wouldn't pack it.

Oh, dear! I'd hate to have the room after someone cooked cabbage rolls in it! :rotfl:

Well according to that poster after you tasted them you would forget all about the smells because they are that good.

We have never cooked in a hotel room other than using a hot pot to make cup of soups. We do get things like cereal, milk, fruit, cheese, and crackers to keep for breakfast andsnacking.

Well I'm in the minority, we once took a trip to Maui where we stayed in a hotel that did not offer grill's on property... We took a George Foreman Grill. We didn't do a lot of cooking, but if we were in a hurry we took it out to the 200 foot lanai and used it. The room offered a small fridge and because we'd been upgraded we had a microwave and toaster... If I were in a similar situation I would do the same thing now. I like organic food and I don't particularly like going out to eat 3 meals a day when I could be sitting on the beach, watching my kids surf or going up a volcano... eating is sort of the last priority.. but in a luxury hotel there is only fine dining which equals hours out of my day.

Course in following years we learned where the grills were, where there was quick dining in the general vicinity, none of which we knew on that first trip....

For those who say you can't afford your vacations if you do such a thing, our family of four has been to Australia twice for a month at a go, Hawaii four times and multiple stays at the DVC properties... it has nothing to do with what you can afford but rather your lifestyle. If you are up on the go and want to whip something up, go for it.

Now the pantyhose thing, that's just disturbing....

No. Furthest I got to "cooking" was buying (what the heck are they called? The quick water boiling thingee's?? Hot Pots? I have no idea....) to boil water for my french press coffee.

Here...one of these things:

I use an immersion coil instead to boil water. I bring a thick glass mason jar, actually one of those Classico tomato sauce jars, as I can boil the water without worrying about the glass breaking from the heat. It takes up so much less space in my carry-on.

I don't care if the iron I use has touched tin foil. I would, however, be seriously "cheesed off" if the iron had cheese or other food residue on it.

I remember the directions from college dorm life was that the grilled cheese was supposed to be wrapped in foil. I never tried it though. I had a microwave oven and ate microwavable foods.

Those people are apparently trapped in 1997 and need a time machine with their coffee pots. It's very sad. Won't you donate? For six dollars a day, you, too, could save people from HORRIFIC FASHION ERRORS.

Wait! We aren't allowed to wear pantyhose anymore? Are we supposed to go bare legged? I need help.

The new Duchess of Cambridge, (Prince William's bride,) has re-started the trend to wear pantyhose again. They are supposed to be sheer, but slightly shimmering hose.

There was a pic of her in hose, standing next to Michelle Obama, who was hose-less. (Somehow that doesn't sound right.)

Kate's legs did look a lot better. :thumbsup2

Just say NO to pantyhose!!!

Sorry, Kate Middleton out trended you. :p

No, but I have warmed up a can of beans in a car engine.

I hope you are not expecting someone to share a small, enclosed hotel room with you after eating the beans. :crazy2:

One of the most disgusting thing I've read on the DIS was about women using coffee pots (the glass container for the hot water) as a laundry receptacle for hosiery. A number of people stated it was the perfect way to wash out their hose. I have never looked at those coffee pots the same since then.

Gross, gross, gross.

ETA- No. I haven't cooked in my hotel room. I haven't used any room appliance for cooking. And I wouldn't.

That is just weird. If one can't afford a 6pack of Leggs Sheer Energy for less than $25.00 to get you through the week, then one probably should rethink going on vacation.

And if one is wearing $$$silk stockings, then they should be able to afford hotel laundry and not be washing them in the coffee pot.

Dexter at Pop must be a huge cabbage roll fan, because he gave it a big thumb's up! :lmao:

OMFreakingG!! I would be so pissed ~ SO PISSED ~ if I was in a room next to, or above Mr Cabbage Man. WOW!

I have to walk six miles (not really...but it feels like it, when I'm groggy in the morning) to a smoking section, as to not bother anyone with my "offensive" smoke, but people are cooking CABBAGE ROLLS IN THEIR ROOM, in a CROCK POT that simmers ALL FLIPPING DAY??!? Crazy. Nuts.

That's kinda cool. Very good idea. :thumbsup2

See.... I toss out that water boiler, after the trip is over. ***GASP!!*** Not only am I eating out every meal, I'm throwing money away by tossing a $15 water boiler thing-a-ma-jig. I'm really naughty. pirate:

I've never cooked with appliances I brought along or appliances that weren't intended for cooking...but I have used microwaves and toasters in rooms. As well as coffeepots (for coffee or tea water, ONLY), which I'm now rather freaked out about...

We aren't DVC members, but we have a different vacation club membership. We're pretty spoiled for regular hotel rooms now, too. In fact, my son (7) has become a complete condo snob. He's offended if there's no real kitchen and he doesn't have his own room (or at least a room to share with his sister). Alas, sometimes he just has to "rough it." Poor kid. :lmao:

We only cook breakfast in the condo when we are at Disneyland, though. We hate losing the time away from the park to go "home" and cook, so we just grab something for lunch and dinner so we can get back to having fun.
