.*Even Miracles Take A Little Time.* A Beyond Birthdays PTR ~Complete~

Hi Timmy! I just made my way over to your PTR and I must say I am thrilled that you've started one! You are such a positive voice here on the DIS! Plus, you're an excellent writer!

:welcome: Joni! Glad you made it over (:

Awwww... thanks, I try to be as positive as I can :thumbsup2 And thanks again, that's especially good to hear from an English teacher ;)

I LOVE the commentary from the pets! So cute!

At least someone appreciates it...

Thanks, we love it too!

GUYS!!! :headache:

Sorry about them... where was I?

I vote for Kovu as your trip mascot. Every time I see him I think of you because of your avatar.

Good reason... I think he was the original choice but then I noticed other Disney plush and such lying around and decided to turn into a contest :teeth:

I'm sorry to hear about no WDW, but hopefully Disneyland will work out! That would be a blast! :goodvibes

I'm very excited. It's totally new to me so it's almost... better than the originally planned WDW trip, but I'll still miss the place while I'm there.

Here are my thoughts for you Timmy. :)

If you can, look into flying into SNA (Santa Ana Airport). It is so much closer to Anaheim than flying into LAX. I really don't like LAX at all!

My friend, Nate was looking into that one from his local airport and it seems possibly the cheapest and the closest, though he read through a lot of close ones. LAX seems overwhelming, so we probably won't go there.

I've stayed at the Best Western before and it is so nice and very convenient. I think it's a really good hotel choice.

Awesome! I'm glad to hear from someone who's stayed there. So far from the TRs I've been lurking on, it is all about the HoJo, so I'm glad to see someone enjoyed the place I was into :goodvibes

Here are my thoughts on attractions (which I'm sure you'll have more on, but here goes).

Space Mountain - Much better in Disneyland. I love love love it!

I've heard that from many sources so I'm uber excited to ride it, though it's going to be strange walking into this whole new set-up, but still very excited about that one.

Pirates - Better in Disneyland too. You'll just have to wait and see why. ;)

I've watched on YouTube and heard things about this myself that it is better like triple the size of the other one, and I've already enjoyed the other one, so this one definitely seems like a lot of fun, especially with THE FOOT! I would explain that, but it's a long story from my other TR.

Indiana Jones - One of my favorite attractions. It's actually the main reason that I love Dinosaur so much. If you made me choose between the two, I would choose Indiana Jones....

Ooooo... that's a big stance there and says a lot. It is one of few differences between WDW and DLR, so I can't wait to see how it is, though it is quite similar to DINOSAUR, and Indiana Jones is one of my favorite movies, so for it to be a ride, even better ::yes::

Here are some attractions at Disneyland that are not in Disney World that I like too:

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride - Just because it holds a special place in my heart. I was very sad when they got rid of it in WDW.

This is also on my next list. I'm becoming a very retro-WDW person. I never got to ride it or anything, but I've heard a lot about it and though Winnie the Pooh is a favorite of mine, I can't wait to ride what was in WDW but is in DLR.

Pinocchio's Daring Journey - Cute dark ride.

I heard this is one of a kind among all of the parks, and Pinocchio is a pretty epic movie, so... do the math lol

Tiki Room - It's the original. I would say try to see it.

OMG, HOW DID I FORGET THIS?!?! I've watched the original show you don't know HOW many times, but I've just loved this show ever since I was introduced to it on the DIS and even have the music on my iPod. I was rejoicing when they brought an abbreviated version back to WDW after Iago got burnt up ;) I'll be having total crazy maniac fan moments in there and I can't wait to try a Dole Whip then bring into the show (because they allow that and I've never tried a Dole Whip *gasp* Yeah, I'm a bad DISer ): )

I'm so jealous that you'll see Ariel's Undersea Adventure! I can't wait until I can make it back to DLR.

Hehehehehe

:woohoo:

I hope you get to go back soon too (:

My favorite thing about Disneyland and what you'll notice is the major size difference. It is much smaller than the Magic Kingdom, but I love that about it. It feels older and that adds to the experience for me. Plus, the idea that Walt Disney actually was there makes me very happy.

I've heard it is just amazing how small it is compared to WDW. One person said the walk from the parking lot in MK is longer than walking from park-to-park in DLR. :scared1: Total insanity. I'm so glad I won't have to deal with as harsh blisters again  And yeah, that is definitely a plus for me, getting to walk down the streets and enjoy projects THE Walt Disney actually worked hands-on on. It's surreal. I can't WAIT to go!

Your DLR plans look great! I started planning a DLR trip when I thought we might be going there for our Disneymoon last year, and I think those were 2 of the hotels we were considering too! I just think it's so weird that you can walk to Disneyland from your hotel...and that California Adventure is right across from Disneyland! :confused3

I'm curious to know why Space Mountain is so much better than MK's version! I mean, how different can it be?

OMG I am dying to see the World of Color! It looks amazing!!! :lovestruc

Thanks! (: Oooo... that's good to know. HoJo seems to be quite popular over on the DL TR board, so it seems like the right choice :thumbsup2 And I know right! SOOOO different from WDW, I think I'll be so confused by this, not having to take a bus to a park 30 minutes away. I may collapse of shock :rotfl:

I'm curious to know why Space Mountain is so much better than MK's version! I mean, how different can it be?

I've heard the main reason is it basically is the same, but they have speakers in your seats like on RnRC and I think the theming is a bit better, but you can't truly know UNTIL you ride it. ::yes::

OMG I am dying to see the World of Color! It looks amazing!!! :lovestruc

I can't wait to see that, seeing how I was awestruck watching it on YouTube, imagine watching it THERE

HERE YOU LEAVE TODAY AND ENTER INTO THE WORLD OF YESTERDAY, TOMORROW AND FANTASY

Yup, I've just managed again to get in another update here. We'll start with some of the real planning. At the moment, I'm looking into flights to California. I'm taking the advice of not going to LAX at the best of my ability, though I did find decent prices from Logan to LAX through JetBlue, but Southwest, my preferred airline, has not released prices for the time I will be going to Cali, so I'm waiting for those. Though, we may end up having to go through LAX on JetBlue because it is a LONG flight and those TVs definitely help past the time, but Southwest is more efficient and we have other forms of entertainment with us... I just don't know at this point, but I have their apps on my iPod, so I will be checking regularly to see if we can get a good flight into SNA from Southwest :thumbsup2

Another piece of news, that I forgot to mention on my last update is... Jocelyn is no longer coming with us :( I sent out a message about it and even mentioned it to her at school, but she seemed to shrug it off. Ever since I was asking for so much for the WDW trip and her trip to WDW coming soon, this will just take too much out of her pocket. So, this trip will consist of my mom, myself and Nate. I'm not sure if there will be a fourth person on this trip to accompany my mom, and balance it out, even though I like this arrangement, having just one friend. I'll keep you posted on that.

Now onto the real update...

Since I've already mentioned the plans, I guess I will start by going more in depth on the rides I wish to go on at the parks and I guess I'll start with a mix of Fantasyland and Main Street USA.

First is Main Street USA...

dl05.jpg

This I find is an attraction within itself. I never paid much attention to the one at MK, having being pulled into the directions of such lands as Tomorrowland, Liberty Square and Frontierland, but I want to really look at this one. It looks a lot bigger than WDW's and has more to see than shops and the M&G that takes up most of the space. Here, it more-so celebrates Walt's hometown and brings a better feel of his presence, along with celebrating his company itself in the Cinema and such. I'm quite excited to really enjoy this often ignored attraction.

Now, we enter into Fantasyland, which based on reading about the attractions has a lot more to offer and is more eye-catching than WDW's, so this will be a long list. So let's begin...

Dumbo

dumbo_2004huffman.jpg

To be soon moved from WDW into a different Fantasyland, but not from here, no sirree! It will be here no matter what and when I will most likely never get a chance to ride it in it's original form and place flying high above Fantasyland, giving me a chance to get some beautiful shots of the place :teeth: I just hope I can get everyone on it since I've passed over it on my last two visits.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

disneyland320.jpg

For my riding pleasure, I have found the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, long and forgotten at WDW, but well and alive at DLR. Ever since I heard this was originally at MK where my beloved Winnie the Pooh now stands, I got curious. Too bad, it no longer stands, having been a bit more unique than the DL version, but just to experience this one is enough for me. Oh, I get so excited to ride it just thinking about it!

Alice In Wonderland

8aAlice.jpg

One ride completely unique to DLR, of course I'm going to ride it! It also gives me more reason to watch the movie again since it has been sometime since I've been able to go down that rabbit hole once more. I remember it was such a colorful and creative movie that the ride must be just the same, very bright and engaging.

Pinocchio's Daring Journey

AAC110.jpg

Another ride unique to DLR, and one based on Pinocchio! Jiminy Cricket has to be one of my favorite characters and it seems Pinocchio isn't very well recognized in most Disney Parks, but to find it here... that's good enough for me! Something to not coincide too much with the "copies" in WDW.

Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk-Through Tour

2CastleEntrance.jpg

I'm very excited for this, I mean to actually go up into the Castle, symbolizing the original Disney park for so many years, that's just too cool. If only they had this in WDW... well, at least there is CRT and the CC suite. Still, this will definitely be a fun experience for me being Sleeping Beauty was my childhood favorite.

It's A Small World

disneyland-060.jpg

Though they do have basically an exact copy of this in WDW, there are differences and that facade! Oh my gosh, to get a picture of it. WOW! It is just so beautiful. I also like the fact that it starts outside rather than inside and you can watch the little pre-show they have while you wait :goodvibes So much to look forward to for this one.

Matterhorn Bobsleds

Matterhorn%2001.jpg

A lot of history behind this ride... original steel coaster, first coaster to have two trains on the track, first coaster at Disneyland, etc. etc. There are also are two sides to it which follow very different tracks and a splash down at the end. Looks like it's very fun, though it is old, but I'm very excited to check out this new coaster.

Storybook Land Canal Boats

notgone_monstro.jpg

Monstro, probably the big reason why I want to go on it. Like most kids my age, I watched the Disneyland sing-a-long video than went to WDW wondering why everything was so different, well most things and this was one that stood out to me the most. It also seems like just a very cute little tour like Jungle Cruise.

And that rounds all those out and still there are many FL rides I didn't mention which I may end up on, like the Mad Tea Party or something. We'll just have to see how quickly we get through things at the parks.

For now and hopefully all the time,

Have a Magical Day!

:maleficen

HAKUNA MATATA! JUST GOING DOWN THE BAYOU...

So, this will be a split update today. First, I would like to begin with saying, I saw one of the best Disney movies ever (probably the best), The Lion King in 3D!!!! If people haven't noticed by my lovely avatar, I love the Lion King, the music, the movie, it is all great. And I love both movies just the same (well almost), so of course I had to see it and guess who showed up to come with me...

NATE!

Yes, he came up from Philadelphia for the day and he and his brother came with me to see it. Originally it was supposed to be my friend, Jocelyn and my other friend, Margaret to come see it, but Jocelyn had some other plans come up and Margaret was sicke the whole weekend, so it was just Nate, his brother and I.

We went last Saturday, so a bit late in the boat, since I got sidetracked a little by school and forgot it had come out. Now, I'm just trying to count down the days until it comes out on DVD so I can run off to the store and go buy it, to continue my growing collection of Disney movies :woohoo: Very exciting. But enough of that, let me skip to the movie...

So, without running over the plot and just trying to convey all the awesomeness that is The Lion King in this update, I'll just cut to the chase and give you my review of the movie, being a huge fan and knowing my Lion King quite well...

I really didn't think it was great. I mean, it still was good, "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" is still probably the best Disney song and animated sequence ever as well as "Be Prepared" being probably the most epic Disney song ever, but it felt really quick. It felt as if something was missing and that it seemed lost. I've heard some changes were made in the 3D movie and it seemed quite obvious. Like the cloud scene with Mufasa's ghost talking to Simba seemed much different than I remembered, it just didn't work out quite well. It is definitely amazing and better as the simple movie it has been for years, no way around that.

I did take some pictures of the movie poster...

0924011817.jpg

0924011809.jpg

0924011810.jpg

Yeah, I totally took a gazillion pictures of one poster. Deal with it! Can you say you know you're a DISer when... lol Well, I hope they may brighten your day in some way shape or form, if possible :confused3

Also, speaking of the Lion King, I was inspired then and even before to finally decide who would be joining me as my mascot for this trip so ladies and gentleman, I would like to announce, the mascot joining me on this first trip will be...

KOVU!

015.jpg

Yup, he's jumping on the bandwagon (forcively) and I know he's going to have just as an awesome time as I will at the Happiest Place on Earth. And speaking of that, since it is quite late now and I want to get to my homework, I'll just cut to the chase and talk about the two rides at New Orleans Square I am DEFINITELY doing and the only rides there of course, but I think are better paired up in this situation then seperated. They are:

Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion

haunted-mansion.jpg

2399384305_7b5a0f17c9.jpg

As I may have said before, I LOVE the Haunted Mansion. It is probably my favorite dark ride in Disney World and my first Disney obsession. Nobody understands why I love this ride, but I just do. It first has the nostalgic feel, as the ride is steeped in Disney history then it is just one of a kind and a completely Disney ride. I can't wait until I get to ride the DL version, which is slightly different from the WDW version, though most is the same, but it is the original and I'm so glad I get to experience it.

Then we have POTC, the quintessential reason why some people believe DLR is much better than WDW is because of this ride. For those of us who are WDW vets, know this ride rarely gets a line beyond 15 minutes and has just never been too popular. It is still well enjoyed, but compared to other rides in the area, it is just an average Disney ride. Then, from my research, the one in DL is total opposite being probably the most popular ride in the park, lines increasing rapidly from the morning. It also is nearly triple the length of the one in WDW with so much more to see and a bit more of a thrill aspect. This also has to be the ride steeped in the most Disney history, being a Walt Disney favorite and one of the last he ever had the chance to oversee. The day I finally get to ride it, is just going to be so exciting :goodvibes

As you can tell, my excitement for this trip just keeps building and building as it gets closer and closer. I'm still waiting for Southwest to release their prices past April 9th so I can possibly snag a good deal. *crosses fingers*

Have a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Day (those of you up and reading this)!

:maleficen

Hi I'm joining! I hope to see this one through until the end!

Love your intro pic with the goofy hat! It's a shame that your WDW plans fell through but yay on going to Disneyland for your 16th birthday! How exciting!

Great plans so far - can't wait to hear how you find Space Mountain!

Yay on going to see The Lion King 3D - I want to watch it but get so emotional during this movie that I would be a mess by the end! :lmao:

I'm happy to read you have chosen Kovu to be your mascot for this trip as he was my favourite :thumbsup2 I loved Haunted Mansion on our trip!

Looking forward to reading more :goodvibes

:welcome:, Tanz! Glad you could join in! I promise this one will NOT fall through. I can make sure of that.

Thanks! That has to be one of my favorite pictures from that trip. It was Facebook profile pic FOREVER, trying to keep a Disney theme with profile pics now ::yes::

I'm so glad I found DL as an alternative. I can already tell it's going to be one heck of a trip! (:

Great plans so far - can't wait to hear how you find Space Mountain

Thanks! (: That's like my #1 Must-Do at this point. I love SM at WDW so I can't wait to ride it out in DLR :goodvibes

Sadly, it's already out of the theaters :( But in two days, it's coming out on DVD and BluRay! Who has two thumbs and is going to be the nerd waiting outside of Target on that day just to get it? THIS GUY!!!

I'm happy to read you have chosen Kovu to be your mascot for this trip as he was my favourite :thumbsup2 I loved Haunted Mansion on our trip!

Oh Kovu is awesome! I think in some ways, he is one of the reasons why I like Lion King 2 so much. I personally wish they had combined those movies just because ;)

I'll try to update more often than I have and hopefully get more of my plans up on here.

:welcome:, Tanz! Glad you could join in! I promise this one will NOT fall through. I can make sure of that.

Yay glad to hear it! If it does happen I'm just going to keep pestering you until you post an update! :lmao:

Thanks! (: That's like my #1 Must-Do at this point. I love SM at WDW so I can't wait to ride it out in DLR :goodvibes

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it and the ways in which they differ :)

Oh in the UK it is not out in the theatres until 7 October so I still have some time to make up my mind. I'll probably go and see it and be in the same state I was in when watching Up at home and Titanic in the theatres! What can I say...I'm an emotional wreck! :rotfl: I saw it on release at the theatres at DTD during our trip and thought of going but then decided against it.

Lol, good luck with getting it on the day it comes out!

Great choice on having Kovu be your mascot. Especially if you love the Lion King. :thumbsup2

I had heard that a few element from the movie had been changed too. I didn't get the chance to see it sadly, but I'll definitely be picking up the Blu Ray.

Love the Haunted Mansion. My favorite attraction from Disney by far. I also love Pirates at DLR.

If you get the chance, see if you can get a reservation eating at the Blue Bayou at DLR. It's right next to Pirates, and you get to sit inside and watch the people in their boats going into the ride while you eat. Oh, and the food is good too. :lmao:

OOOOHHHH... forgot you live in the UK :/ Well, I say you should see it since this will be your only chance to see it as a 3D movie, but I think just having the DVD, BluRay or VHS totally suffices. And don't worry about being an emotional wreck, basically everyone tears up during Mufasa's death :sad1: And it's The Lion King, why would you miss that?!

Great choice on having Kovu be your mascot. Especially if you love the Lion King. :thumbsup2

Totally! Hopefully he'll behave though ;)

I had heard that a few element from the movie had been changed too. I didn't get the chance to see it sadly, but I'll definitely be picking up the Blu Ray.

Yeah, it ruined some parts in that way, so it wasn't a total loss if you didn't see it, but I think having it on DVD is much better.

Love the Haunted Mansion. My favorite attraction from Disney by far. I also love Pirates at DLR.

I love, love, love, LOOOOVVEEE Haunted Mansion! I will scream it from the rooftops, I love it so much. Even when my friends force me NOT to go on it, they will be forced on in return, it's definitely one of my favorites, but EE, ToT and SM will always be my favs :goodvibes

I can't wait to ride POTC there. That's the ride I'm probably most excited to ride.

I was thinking about that. I've heard a lot of good things from one of the TRs I'm reading on the DL Trip Report board, but I'm not sure if I will be doing dining reservations in advanced, I think we'll just pop up at the restaurants when we want to eat. Blue Bayou is definitely at the top of my list... they sell beignets there, right? And Gumbo? :teeth:

I would say, if you're interested in Blue Bayou, I would suggest a reservation. Walk-ups there are kind of hard to come by. I've tried it before.

Other restaurants I haven't had a problem with there, but that's one that's difficult. They don't have the ADR problem that WDW does. Just my two cents worth. ;)

Oh... well thanks for letting me know, Danielle! We'll see once we get all the other stuff sorted out if my mom and Nate want to go there. I'm sure they will, but this is still in planning process and I'm just waiting for Southwest's rates to just SHOW UP! I'm being very impatient today :p

Ha ha, I know what you mean about being impatient for airfare to open up. I've been there myself! ;)

Timmy you might want to check SW. I received notification that they are booking through June 1, 2012.

Actually I believe Blue Bayou serves Jambalaya but no gumbo.
Cafe Orleans serves a lot of New Orleans style food Gumbo and Mickey shaped Beignets (although nothing could match Commander's Palace, Galatoire's or for Beignets- Cafe Du Monde in NO).

Blue Bayou is all about the atmosphere, nothing like a table right by the 'bayou' (lot less mosquito bites on THIS Bayou too:rotfl2:) but Cafe Orleans is easier to get walk-up ressies.

So many wonderful restaurants in the area, try some of those if you can and not just 'theme park' food

Oh, thanks for telling me! I just checked and the prices are fairly low. I showed it to my mom and NOW she's iffy. GREAT!

Awwwwww... no Gumbo there... I guess maybe Cafe Orleans will be a better choice, but we'll see when the time comes. And BEIGNETS! Oh I desperately need to try a beignet, my life depends on it :thumbsup2

Yeah, that's what I would look forward to the most, but it's only by request or some luck at busier times I would get a seat there. Again we'll have to see when the time comes, but at this point, Cafe Orleans sounds like a better bet.

So many wonderful restaurants in the area, try some of those if you can and not just 'theme park' food

Definitely! We won't be primarily Disney so I will definitely have to stop by some local food places (:

MAKING MEMORIES! TAKING VIDEOS IS... MAKING MEMORIES

So I'm going to take a break from going through the must-dos on my trip to talk about some other stuff. So, after seeing some TRs and videos online of trips people have taken, I've decided I would like to do that. I've already made little musical slideshows, but I think adding video will make it a better keepsake. The only problem is I am Camcorder-less :/ The camera and photo situation is all good, but camcorder not so much. So, I've been looking at CNET for reviews of good HD camcorders that aren't for exactly high quality videos, but just the average home video and so far this is the number one choice-

Canon Vixia HF M40 (Black) Camcorder

canon_vixia_hf_m40_1091368_g1.jpg

It says it's fairly good for home videos, though it says sunlight could be a problem and I'll be filming a lot out in the sun, so maybe I'll go up to...

Canon Vixia HF M41 (Black) Camcorder

m412.jpg

It says this works a bit better in sunlight, so I think this maybe better when trying to video tape while looking at the screen.

If these turn out to be too expensive for my mom's taste, I think I'll just go with the Flip, since it seems to take decent videos and is compact so it'll be easier to walk around with then having to continually take out the camcorder and put it away in a bag.

flipcamera.jpg

It also is one where I've heard it's better for sharing than most video recorders. But I think just winging it while shopping will be best since usually the experts there are very good at showing you the best ones out there for what you are looking for versus reviews online. My mom is interested in finding some of these, so hopefully this day will come soon like when we finally get everything booked for this trip! :goodvibes And if you have any suggestions for camcorders, please tell me, it is greatly appreciated (:

Speaking of which, Southwest FINALLY released their rates past April 9th, 2012! I looked at the prices and they didn't seem too bad. I was so glad I waited for Southwest to post up their prices, especially since they fly into SNA. My mom also got an email from them about some deal, but I'll have to look at that later. It just looks pretty good. I'm guessing this trip will cost a lot less than I anticipated. :hyper:

Another thing, I must add because this is a factor too, is I got the information for the trips I will be able to go on this year with other Sophomores. Basically, what it is, all Sophomores "go away" from school for a week to participate in their chosen courses. Only a certain amount of kids are allowed for each course, so we have to pick five courses, listing one through five (1 is #1 choice to 5th choice) and I don't know which I should put as my number one choice. It is a battle so far between the trip to Manhattan and then the trip to Quebec. I've never been out of the country so I like the idea of Quebec and Manhattan was my number one choice before I looked at the sheet since I heard about it before, but now I know about both, it's hard to decide. So I wanted to ask, which would you prefer? I'm getting extremely desperate here so it is appreciated if you do give your opinion, whatever it may be. Thanks!

Yup, so that is it...

Have A Magical Columbus Day Weekend!

:maleficen

I can't really help with the camera situation as I do not have a clue when it comes to them either! They all sound good to me.

Yay on Southwest releasing their prices and your trip costing even less than you anticipated :thumbsup2

I love that you get to go away from school and do a course in a different location! My choice would be Quebec but I get why you would want to go to Manhattan. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice!

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to camcorders. I normally just use my regular camera to take video. Works pretty good!

I can't really help with the camera situation as I do not have a clue when it comes to them either! They all sound good to me.

Well, that's okay, but thanks for your input anyways! (:

I'm so glad my school does stuff like that. I'm pretty sure every year there are just so many trip options at my school it's fantastic. Love my school! Yeah, that's what everyone I know is pushing me for, Quebec. But you just explained the problem right there! You can't go wrong with either, there is so much I'll miss on one trip and so much I'll miss on the other URRRRRGGGGHHH... Well, guess what I'll be doing over the long weekend! (: Thanks for your help anyways, Tanz! :teeth:

Yeah, that's what I used before, but we used to use a video camera to take videos all the time when I was younger and never updated to a camcorder, it's always been cameras, so I think it's good we're getting one now, especially with what we're all doing now. :D
