.*Even Miracles Take A Little Time.* A Beyond Birthdays PTR ~Complete~

BIG UPDATE: WHEN YOU CAN DREAM THEN YOU CAN'T STOP...

Alright, so this is a HUGE update. This update is monumental to this trip in so many ways. With this monumental change, there is some good news and there is some bad news. I'll just get the bad news over with so we can elaborate more on the good news. It also is better to get the bad stuff over with.

The bad news is... I will no longer be going to Disney World for my 16th Birthday :( I said this PTR was supposed to prevent this, but other things not even a PTR can control came into play. I'm going through Driver's Ed this year and in my grade, we have this special week called Wintercession, where I get the chance to go on trips to places like California, Canada, NYC, etc. and it isn't cheap. I've been looking forward to it and I'm most likely going to pick one of the more bigger trips, which can be up to $550, which is A LOT for one person. There is also a lot of other stuff, not involving me that keep on piling on the need for money and with Disney's prices, it was out of the question not happening.

My mom did mention she would see if we could go in 2013 because I was really hoping to, but I didn't want to wait that long, so I decided to go find cheaper alternatives for my 16th Birthday. My mom already had in mind, we would be in for a lot of money when it came to my birthday, though Disney was too much to say the least, which is where the good news comes in...

disneyland-address.jpg

I MAY BE GOING TO DISNEYLAND!

Yup! So I guess Disney isn't totally out of the question. I have been following my friend, StephaniexMarie's PTR on her trip to DLR for sweet 16 and saw how cheap it was staying off-property, which in the case of DL, I'm totally fine with, though I would love to stay at the Disneyland Hotel or something, they are wicked expensive and based on some other plans to go to Cali, DL may not be a number 1 thing. Anyways, after I checked the prices, I was shocked to see how they were half of what WDW costs, so I told my mom. I told her the prices and she got really excited even mentioned not just leaving it to us, but as our family vacation, so we can visit my mom's cousins and check out California. She also said the flights there are generally cheaper than to Florida, so another plus, so there really was no hesitation. I still have yet to discuss this with my friends, but I have to call Nate soon and I'll see Jocelyn on Tuesday, so I'll talk to them then, but I'm so excited she liked this idea! :hyper:

Now, with wanting to visit my mom's cousins in California, we also want to see California. I mean, while I would be completely fine with just Disney they would most likely count that as a smaller part. So, I'm guessing this would be a generally longer trip than expected and we'd be doing some traveling though Anaheim is close to a lot of other big attractions in Southern California and my aunt's, which is another plus. I think this trip is more likely than I thought. I'm so excited to go :woohoo:

Now, I haven't done a ton of research on DL as I have for the trip to WDW, and I don't know enough, so this will also be a long journey to figuring out what to do within the two parks (since we ARE going to both). I've already been looking up the shows like World of Color and Mickey's Soundsational Parade (quite excited for those two). I also need to look up ticket prices too. There also is seeing what is Anaheim's vicinity to keep my anti-Disney dad occupied, even if Cali isn't as crazy hot as Florida, we need to find something so he isn't "tormented" by the Happiest Place on Earth

So I guess this starts a new chapter in this story. I'll be looking up more stuff on the various hotels, which ones seem the best and then park tickets. I'll also be looking for some good shows and other stuff going on within the parks since DL I've heard has better entertainment than WDW, so that's what I'm looking forward to the most, along with the extinct WDW attractions found in DLR. So, lots to do and thus we open up a new chapter in this PTR. Get ready to change directions as we head into the other half of the roller coaster in planning a Disneyland/California trip.

With the chaos recurring, remember to have a Magical Day!

:tinker:

Bummer you won't be going to WDW anymore for your birthday :sad2: but that is cool that Disneyland is a possibility! I agree it would be fun to stay at the Disneyland Hotel but the nice thing about Disneyland is that it's a lot smaller than WDW and staying offsite is not as big a deal. The two times I went with my dad we stayed in one of the "good neighbor" hotels and they are literally right across the street from the theme parks and DTD.

I am by no means a Disneyland expert (like I said, I've only been there twice) but if you have any questions I can try to help out!

Aww, I'm sorry you won't go to Disney for your bday anymore, but Disneyland sounds awesome! :cool1: I've been trying to plan a trip there for years, but every time I do, I decide to go to Disney World instead! I am REALLY hoping to get there next year at some point! I've been to CA once, but it was northern CA, so I'd love to see Disneyland and San Diego and southern CA!

Yeah, but I'm so glad DL is now in the boat. My mom was pretty much all for it, even more than last time. She's like "Oh, what if we take the whole family?" and she just liked the idea. There's a lot to do in California besides DLR, so it wouldn't be a problem getting to other places when you don't need to stay on property, to keep my family distracted while I can enjoy the parks with friends. (: It's a brilliant plan. And yeah, I was looking at a few of those, I'm hoping to get one of the Best Westerns across the street because then when we check in, we can just go right off to the parks. Simple as that :goodvibes I'm definitely very excited about this, almost more than WDW

Thanks Sarah! I haven't been at all, so I need all the help I can get ;)

I'm so glad I discovered it as an alternative. Like I would still love to go to WDW for some of the plans I had, but I've NEVER been to DLR, so a whole new experience there. :thumbsup2

Awww... well I hope you get to go sometime, still WDW is just as fun. I really want to see Southern California too. Anaheim is right on the coast and near a lot of stuff like the Sea World there, Universal Studios Hollywood, the San Diego Zoo... just A LOT. It seems like while most of the trip I'm gearing towards DL, it will encompass Cali too :teeth:

There are a TON of tours in MK ahaha. Ok, maybe not a ton, but quite a few! I actually took one 2 weeks ago today, it was great. Check out this site: http://disneytourreviews.com/

Hi guys,

I just wanted to let you know that I run Disney Tour Reviews and noticed there was some traffic coming from over here on the Disboards (which is where I first got addicted to Disney thanks to the DIS Unplugged).

Anyways, I see I'm a little behind the times already & you're now headed to Disneyland. I'm jealous - really, I think I love it more than Disney World! I just wanted to let you know that if you have any questions on the tours at WDW, I'd be happy to help you out. I've also been on the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour at Disneyland, so even though my site doesn't have a DLR part (yet) - I can help there too.

Glad to see you won't be completely Disney-free for your 16th.

Hope you have a wonderful time in Anaheim!:yay:

:( about not going to wdw for your birthday but i'm jealous that you're going to Disneyland! I went once when I was four so I really don't remember much of it. I hope to check it out sometime though. If I went I would probably spend 2 days in Disneyland, 2 days in California adventure, 1/2 a day in DTD and probably spend some time in LA. I really want to check out some of those celebrity hot spots lol! I am still following along as a avid reader and I Sooooo hope you get to go! I hope to learn about disneyland through you! If u go I really want to hear about world if color. I need to go to didneyland just for that!

I've made a buddy PTR to this PTR over on the Disneyland TR board to get some feedback over there. If you are interested, then you may listen in:

Oh, that's very cool! I've just started looking at your site and I can't believe how many tours you have done throughout the parks. I'll probably go check back after I reply so I can see your reviews of some tours I'm interested in (might have mentioned them).

Well, not entirely since this change just occured like a day ago, so you're pretty up to date now. I'm so excited to go! I'll probably end up doing a comparison of the two parks in my mind. I've heard instances where people like DLR a lot more than WDW and the other way around so it will be interesting to see how things change for me. (: And thanks so much! When I start planning my next trip, I will totally come and ask you :thumbsup2 Ooooo... that sounds interesting, I will have to look into that and I'll have to read your review once you have the Disneyland section up on your site, though more likely than not I will not be doing any special tours having this being my first ever trip.

Thanks, I'm so glad too. All I said, even though my parents were willing to give me something big (car is still in question), I wanted Disney more than anything, so glad it's hopped off and now back on to the track.

Thanks again :teeth:

I know, but still it will be a Disney-fied birthday! (: I hope you get the chance to check it out soon too, I mean it's the only park where Walt ACTUALLY set foot in, was hands-on involved in the projects, making it that much better. Oooooo... those seem like good plans. My mom said 5 days, but if it turns into a family vacation, I could ask for longer, but we'll just have to see (: I don't think though I'm into the celebrity hot spots, I'm not sure I'd want to run into ravenous paparazzi *shivers* I'm glad to hear you're still following along and I'm totally going to see World of Color, that's on the top of my list and I've seen videos... I think you can call it "Fantasmic on steroids", it's so big! Oh, I'm getting anxious just thinking about it :hyper: Alright, I'll just stop there. Thanks again for staying along as I plan for this trip

I grew up going to WDW and didn't go to DLR until this past December (and then went again in Feb on one of the DIS Unplugged Adventures by Disney trips.) It is adorable - and I mean that in a good, non-condesening way. Everything is so close, so you can wander back and forth between the two parks. I really wish I was closer to that park & had to travel to WDW (since it is more of a complete destination.)

I'm sure you'll have a blast!

I think that's one thing I'm looking forward to, not having to worry about long bus rides through the parks, boats and the bazillion types of transportation in WDW, when I can just walk back and forth between DL and DCA (possibly the resort too, if it's close). And yeah, I think that would be the way to go, visit both parks at DLR on the weekends then take varying trips to WDW :teeth:

I hope I do, though... it's Disney, how can you not? LOL I'm so excited for this trip (:

Sad that going to WDW is not going to happen, but Disneyland is pretty awesome! I hope when you go that a lot of the new stuff at DCA will be open. I haven't been back to Disneyland in about 4 years, but I've been putting it off myself until DCA is complete.

Timmy what you will find awesome about Disneyland/Ca Park is the close proximity of everything in the Disney area.
We've stayed in many different hotels and have been able to watch the fireworks from the balcony, walk to the parks and some of these hotels aren't even Resort hotels! However some of the old reliables are gone and some are now not somewhere you'd want to stay.

I was warned before we went that it wasn't the same at WDW and the walking was immense. My sister and I reminisced about the time we walked from the hotel at maingate to Disneyland in LESS time than it took to walk from the parking lot to the Monorail at MK in WDW! (we didn't want to wait for the shuttle, so we walked). I was warned that you can't just walk up to the gates like you do at Disneyland.
Like I told you on the other report though, getting anywhere else? Very difficult without a car.
(oh and as an added bonus in addition to my 'dismeet':lmao: with WED? We were all dancing to the tunes of Count Basie. Visiting between sets and rests between dancing. Imagine being asked how you are enjoying the park and what all you've done by the man who created it!:worship:

Yeah, I'm so glad I found that alternative, though I'm going to miss some things in WDW, DLR is all new. Yeah, when I go I'll be able to go on The Little Mermaid before it makes it over to WDW :cloud9: Though I think it's a smart move to go once DCA is done with their refurbs :thumbsup2

That's so cool! But that's sad the old good ones are gone. :( I'm hoping to get into the Best Western that's right across the street because that may be where I can see the fireworks, though I also need to find the best place for a group of 4.

Wow, that's pretty crazy! It's amazing how size changes everything. Disney World is ALL of Kissimmee, but they say Orlando, because that's the vicinity, while DL is only part of Anaheim. I'm definitely excited to not have to walk so much in DLR as I do in WDW. Though, we're totally ready to get a car since we will be flying in. (:

Wow! That is wicked cool! I'm sure it was insane for you even then, but that's awesome you still got to do it and your opinion helped make the park what it is today, I'm sure if it went to THE WED! So awesome... I'm so jealous hehe

That's a moderate I believe?
They are still okay but many of the economy hotels that are left have 'semi-permanent' residents.

You will have a great time, Space Mt is different and the Astro Orbiters and there are things there that will make you forget about WDW (for a while:rotfl:)
I'm crossing my fingers and sending you pixiedust: that will help you get there. Sweet sixteen? That should last all year long:dance3:
I'm planning a trip but believe it or not it's almost cheaper to go to WDW! Unless we drive yuck. That's what happens when you live out in the middle of nowhere.

We'll see how you like it in the Western part of the country. By the way a live trip report would be great. Get your reaction firsthand.
(My meet with WED was when I was a very small child, remember it though and have his autograph, photo and tons of 'ancient memorabilia).

:banana: That's so awesome about the new plans!!

It's like everything is pointing towards Disneyland  Like ok, you love Disney, you could go to CA with your school, you have family in CA, AND it's more affordable!

Ugh, I wish I had friends like you :lmao: So jealous. DL looks so adorable and quaint and classic and DISNEY!

Hopping over to the PTR now!

I think I can handle that, though my mom would probably much prefer the better end of the hotel spectrum, which I do LOVE to, no doubt, so definitely NOT economy :/ I don't think semi-permanent residents sound too good.

Oh, I really want to go on their Space Mountain, I love it in WDW and I've heard theirs is just that better, so I'm excited to see where I stand :goodvibes And aren't their Astro Orbitors on the ground not above Tomorrowland? :confused3 I've already decided to really try to push WDW from my mind while their, it's all about DLR ::yes::

Awww.... thanks! Yep, the big 1-6 lol Totally, all year long, DLR FOREVER :cloud9:

Oh, really? I've been looking into the prices and so far, it seems less... I wonder if it changes when you don't stay on property and for me, I HAVE to in WDW, but DLR I can stand without :thumbsup2

Awesome! I don't know about Live Trip Reports. My laptop stays home, but if I can I'll leave comments about how things are and I'll have a TR book with me :teeth: (Awwww... that's great, memories like those last a LIFETIME (: )

I know, I'm so happy I found an alternative :cool1:

I know right! Well, the CA trip with school is all rock-climbing so no Disney (sad, right?), though the best part is definitely how affordable the trip will be for me :goodvibes

My friends are the best, to me anyways, and I'm sure your friends are the same way. :thumbsup2 Those are the qualities I'm definitely happy about, especially the Disney part

Cool! I will be posting here, I just put that there for DLR vets to help me out since I think the gravitate more to there. I'm so new to DL, I need all the help I can get, but glad to see you went over (:

Hi Timmy! I just made my way over to your PTR and I must say I am thrilled that you've started one! You are such a positive voice here on the DIS! Plus, you're an excellent writer!

I LOVE the commentary from the pets! So cute!

I vote for Kovu as your trip mascot. Every time I see him I think of you because of your avatar.

I'm sorry to hear about no WDW, but hopefully Disneyland will work out! That would be a blast! :goodvibes

PLANS: PRACTICALLY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!

I guess I started getting very behind on my plans. I guess I need to start getting my homework done quicker so I can post this stuff up. At least, I've started to incorporate Disney into that little schedule. I finally got my VHS player working and I've watched Mary Poppins and Pollyanna while I do my homework. For those of you, who aren't familiar with Pollyanna, it's one of the more obscure Disney live-action movies, though it was the first movie actress Hayley Mills (The Parent Trip (original)) was in. It's definitely a very cute movie and was my sister's favorites for a long time. Watching it again older, it makes so much more sense and it truly is a great movie, so if you get the chance, look for it somewhere and watch it ::yes::

For those of you who followed the main PTR and my other TRs know how I got one of the Pottermore beta accounts, well... I FINALLY got the welcome email last Thursday and have officially joined the site. I'm going back through the post on when I first discussed me joining the site so I can send out more friend requests for everyone to accept when I join. (: And for any of those curious, since House Sorting was the big thing for being on for early access to Pottermore, I'm in Ravenclaw! Yes, I'm so happy, that was the house I wanted to be in most. The sorting ceremony is very different than you would expect, but I will only go as far as that when it comes to Pottermore so any awaiting emails can be surprised. :teeth:

Alright, I got off topic for a bit, let me get to the update...

So, I'm bouncing between getting a late flight into one of the nearby airports the day before the real plans start, which would be April 21st. If we get the early flight the day of, we would get there and hopefully arrive in time to have a decent amount of time at DCA or DL depending on how everyone is feeling when we arrive and we would try to work out flights with Nate in Pennsylvania, trying to arrive at the same time between two airports and two airplanes. It's going to be tough. :/ If we end up going the day before, we will arrive and maybe go out for dinner at Downtown Disney and look around the place and maybe the on-property hotels too :goodvibes And then it would be a nice rest to get past the jet lag (one hour behind).

No official decision on hotels, but I'm looking at either Howard Johnson, since I've heard good things or Best Western, since that's only walking distance from DLR. I'm still searching through, but those are the ones most prominent in my mind

hojoexterior.jpg

anaheim-inn-front-300x150.jpg

Then, we would go on the second day to Disneyland as our first park, going with the plans to arrive at night a day before!

disneyland-castle.jpg

There is so much to do on this first day. I'm probably going to be making multiple posts on the must-dos for me, but I'll give you a few of them, but definitely Pirates of the Caribbean, since I've heard theirs is double the size.

Disneyland+California+Pirates+of+Caribbean+11-24-2008+11-01-31+AM+1214x856.JPG

Space Mountain, totally! I've heard this one is so much better than the one in WDW and I love the one in WDW, so it will be interesting to ride this one.
space-mountain.jpg

Indiana Jones, after that... I love DINOSAUR and they use the same ride vehicles and I've heard this one has a better theme so I'm definitely excited to try it out.
indiana-jones1.jpg

Yup, so that's how my day one is going to go, I'll get more specific when the time comes. Let's move on to the second day, which will be at... Disney's California Adventure!

calsign.jpg

Sadly the entrance is different now and is more DHS-esque which bothers me to no end, but I'd rather not rant right now about that. There still is a lot I'm excited about in DCA like...

The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure, I think this is pretty obvious for ANY DISer.
little-mermaid-model.jpg

World of Color! I've been starting to watch this on YouTube and I love it. It is basically Fantasmic on steroids, but for it to be that good, I can't wait to see it. :goodvibes
4732658268_3e97c38fd3.jpg

I'm going out on a limb with this one, but... California Screamin'. I'm really going to try to push myself to get on this. I'm finding rides that I was terrified of at first I truly enjoy and I need to get past my fear of inversions (loops, corkscrews, etc.), so this seems like my chance. Man up, man up!
california_screamin.jpg

So, that ends the second day. I'm very excited for both days nonetheless with all this stuff I get to experience only over two days! I'm insane, so I've snuck in one last day. With this last day, my friends and I will discuss which park we enjoyed the most overall (not one ride) and go to that park. We did this on my first trip and I got to enjoy MK twice, which was a fantastic experience, but I won't reveal too much since most are reading my TR, but I guess I gave away the park again so... whatever. But that's how the third/fourth day will go.

On the fourth/fifth day, we will start to explore more of California. I really want to go drive down to Hollywood Boulevard and immerse myself in the heart of the showbiz franchise, which is Hollywood. I also want to check out the Disney Studio Store and Fountain Shop.

P1-001.JPG

Looks like lots of fun to do there. I also want to check out the real Chinese Theater, the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the list just goes on and on and on for this day. We may also visit my cousins today if we have time :teeth: So, this will be more of a California day.

On the ever-bittersweet last day :( We may do some last minute shopping in DTD or add another half-park day, who knows, but we will be leaving today. We may also use the late flight to go visit my cousins today as well or maybe we'll book a reservation today at some Disney restaurant for some last minute fun. This is very up in the air like the third/fourth day.

So, that is the very flimsy plans I have. I'll start getting into more of what I want to do and such in other posts so I don't just have the ones I gave you since there is a lot I really want to do in DLR and in Cali itself. I'm very excited. My ticker says 223 days, just that much closer to 200 :woohoo:

Oh, of course... Have A Jolly Holi-DAY! (;

:maleficen

Here are my thoughts for you Timmy. :)

If you can, look into flying into SNA (Santa Ana Airport). It is so much closer to Anaheim than flying into LAX. I really don't like LAX at all!

I've stayed at the Best Western before and it is so nice and very convenient. I think it's a really good hotel choice.

Here are my thoughts on attractions (which I'm sure you'll have more on, but here goes).

Space Mountain - Much better in Disneyland. I love love love it!

Pirates - Better in Disneyland too. You'll just have to wait and see why. ;)

Indiana Jones - One of my favorite attractions. It's actually the main reason that I love Dinosaur so much. If you made me choose between the two, I would choose Indiana Jones....

Here are some attractions at Disneyland that are not in Disney World that I like too:

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride - Just because it holds a special place in my heart. I was very sad when they got rid of it in WDW.

Pinocchio's Daring Journey - Cute dark ride.

Tiki Room - It's the original. I would say try to see it.

I'm so jealous that you'll see Ariel's Undersea Adventure! I can't wait until I can make it back to DLR.

My favorite thing about Disneyland and what you'll notice is the major size difference. It is much smaller than the Magic Kingdom, but I love that about it. It feels older and that adds to the experience for me. Plus, the idea that Walt Disney actually was there makes me very happy.
