How does this work? Does waiting in the line get you a M&G with all three characters since they're all in the same room (as in start with one and then go to the next and so on), or will you have to wait in three separate lines?

Your first scenario is correct--you wait in one line with the same people in front of you. Each character has it's own backdrop/picture area. You get your picture at the first one, then move to the second, then the third. You may have to wait a short time (like one or two families) for each character as the families in front of you get their pictures, but it's not long.
