Hi All! I've been reading lots of posts on the Boards for the past few months but finally decided to jump in, because I have recently (that is, since we booked our "Belated-Christmastime-Disneymoon) become very motivated to save money and found out the grocery bill was the easiest place to do it-- and that the best way to save there was to PLAN!!!
Funny side-story just because, since this was a catalyst for menu-planning for me...
My husband and I got married August 09. He's 6'8" and can EAT- I graduated from law school in May 09 and was used to coming home and eating popcorn or chips for dinner most nights, so it was a huge adjustment to cook dinners e-v-e-r-y night. I used to cook once a week and have food for days! Anyway, I'm very type-A so I did the shopping just because I preferred it, but one night DH offered to go (remember, this was pre-menu-planning). I thought that would be great, maybe I should be less controlling anyway

He came back about 45 minutes later and here's what he bought: 26 pounds of meat, and a pack of hot dog buns.

That's it, Nothing else, no sides, no produce, nothing!! In that 26 pounds was a 9-pound ham, two large pot roasts, two turkey breasts, and a pack of hot dogs (at least he got buns). 26 pounds of meat!!!! The ham is still sitting in our freezer because there's only two of us!
Now I plan out every day, sometimes doing two weeks worth of shopping at a time, and I try really, really hard to only spend $50/week on groceries. I plan the menus around what meat is on sale, and I use coupons.
All of that was a very long post to say that I'm so looking forward to changing up our usual menus using everyone else's ideas! Thanks for all of them so far!!!
