Is there a place to go where I can learn about renting a DVC? I'm looking into renting a DVC for next year but am confused as to how the points work, and just what is the best way to go about renting. Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Hi, and Welcome to the DISboards DVC Forums. :)

Basically, you are renting a reservation from a DVC member (AKA renting points). It is a private transaction between you and a DVC member. Disney is not involved in any way, and DVC member services will not speak with the renter, even to confirm the reservation. renting is a transaction that includes trust on both sides.

Personally, if you are looking to rent through the DIS rent trade board, I would look for an owner with a fairly high post count, it would ease my mind somewhat to know they have a "history" as a poster on these boards.

I would also have a written agreement detailing everything, including the dates and method of payments, contact information for both parties, consequences if either party fails to deliver as promised, etc.

i'd like to add that you may want to wait to rent points until you have a larger number of posts here too.

since the DVC member doesn't know your history on this board it may make some people uncomfortable renting reservations out to someone who they don't "know"

thanks to brajfamily for asking that question. I've been a newbie on the DIS forum boards for about 5 mos. Not many posts, just a lot of reading and learning for the sole purpose of doing a DVC RENTAL in late sept-early october/07.
remember.... never a stupid question/ only stupid answers.
still learning the ropes...

one suggestion for renting: earlier is better. if you can make a reservation 9 or 10 months in advance (understanding that cancellation options may be limited) - you are more likely to find availability.

i tried to rent starting 4 or 5 months out last year and couldn't find anything. YMMV.
