I got a letter in the mail on Sat. from DVC saying that some people we know had requested DVC info, and said that we referred DVC to them. I know that DVC will give a current member a referral gift if they purchase. My question is, what do they normally give?

Thanks,
Rob

The first gift in any year is $200 - payable in Disney Dollars, a credit on your dues, a credit on more points, or a donation to a charitable organization (Give Kids the World??).

We have actually referred2 families. Do the referrals get better with the more you send them?

Thanks again,
Rob

Yes, if it's within the same calendar year. The 2nd one is worth $350, and I think the 3rd is $500. Once you cross from December to January though, you're back to $200 again.

You must live in a state where referrals are allowed to get a gift. Some states do not allow Disney to pay for referrals.

We got our 1st referral Disney Dollars yesterday, and we have friends who are 99% going to buy next week when they go down to WDW. Anyone know if they go by contract date or date of closing...if it's date of closing then this will be # 2 for us this year so $350 in Dis$$, my upcoming vacation is getting less expensive already. :teeth: :smooth:

So, what states allow referral gifts and which do not?

I'm pretty sure my current state (PA) doesn't allow them. I'm not sure about when we get moved to SC....

So apparently NY does allow gifts? Who else?

I am waiting for a Disney Dollar for a referral. The sales rep told me it was about 4-6 weeks after the closing. My referral has recently close so we will see.

Here is the list of states that allow referrals...........

Alabama,California,Delaware,Florida,GeorgiaHawaii,Idaho,Illonois,Iowa,Kansas,Louisianna,Maryland,Mass,Missisippi,Missouri,Nevada,New Hampshire,New Jersey,New Mexico,New York,North Dakota,Ohio,Rhode Island,South Dakota, and Wisconsin.;)

P.S. This was as of November 2002 in a mailing DVC sent us.

While the Disney Dollars are nice DDC is going to be sending you a miscellaneous income statement so you have to report those dollars on your income taxes. So enjoy them now but know that you will be paying taxes on them later.

Why am I not surprised that Indiana is not on the list?

Another "day late dollar short" deal here.

Ed T, is this something new? We have received rewards for 3 referrals and have never received a miscellaneous income statement from DVC. They were all in different years, so we never received more than $200 in any given year. Does that make a difference?

not 100% sure but I think there is a $600 threshold...anything above $600 will get reported, unless it is a bank or something and then it is usually automatically generated 1099 form.
