Chase Disney CC regular vs. $49/ annual fee.

Airline, Wireless, and Dell credits 🎉

I sadly paid for my first TSA PreCheck before I knew better! The renewals are free now though 😉
I have a printer sitting in my front room that was just delivered last week that I actually made money on buying it when combined with the Dell credit, Amex offer, cash back site. The fee is high but I love that card too

Rakuten 15% is the BEST with the Dell offers!

I can easily justify these fees with what I have made in points and credits.

I cant live without Clear and TSA Precheck anymore.
If I had to pay more than a token amount for it, I would not renew Clear. In my home airport the Elite pre-check line is already fast. It's useful in some other places (SEA, SFO, MCO, and maybe LAX) but not enough to make the difference for me.

Even though I am paying for it by paying my annual fee to Amex it feels "free" It works great at my home Airport and was crappy at MCO, but it may have been even more crappy not have to at MCO.

We have at the $49 fee card. The 2% back on restaurants is what does it for us. None of our other cards have that, and as a busy family of 5. 2% back on all our Disney travel and DVC fees isn't bad either. Together, the make up the fee and more easily.

The other major benefit of Disney Visa that we like but could be gotten with the no fee card is the 10% discount at many restaurants and shops in the park (and cruise ships!)

I get that in theory you can save 5% with gift cards, and we do that for some spending money, but no way am I buying thousands of dollars of gift cards to pay for an entire vacation. I've seen way too many horror stories of canceled trips and messed up refunds or lost/stolen cards or cards never having the funds in the first place. Credit cards give you a lot of protection. That's worth more than 3% savings to me.
The gift cards are such a headache to keep track of. I'm the type that looks at every purchase charged and it's just so annoying especially since the disneyland app literally makes you type in the gc number for every mobile purchase and not store it, I think they do it on purpose.

I use a mix of gift cards and cards. Sometimes the gift card deals are just too good not to take advantage of (black Friday, dining dollars, etc)

The gift cards actually saved my butt once when TWO of the cards I was traveling with were flagged with fraud and their solution was to mail the cards to my house when we were in Florida! Those gc def gave me time to sort it out with less stress.

I second the usefulness at SEA, I couldn't imagine flying out of there without it

The WDW MDE app doesn't let you store GC numbers, either. Many of us keep the numbers in a note on our phones so we can copy and paste when using it for mobile order or anything else that we can't charge to our resort room account.

I usually scan the code. Easy peasy. Except for if Im mobile ordering and I cant find my husband who is carrying the GC in his wallet.

Good to know it doesnt work there either 🤣🤣

I think of the $49 version as essentially a no fee card. You seem to get 3 months Hulu/Disney+ credits which total about $50...

There are better ways to earn points, but I know I'll always be able to easily redeem the points, which I like... especially with the new pay yourself back feature.

The 6 months financing is handy as well.

The other main cards we use are Amex Platinum and Chase WOH. WOH has one of the easiest points earning and redeeming programs, and hyatt is a good way to redeem. The problem is we are more cruise and disney people right now so it becomes a game of how much do you want to stay at grand cypress...

We have a not insignificant amount of Marriott, MR, and WOH points, and a small amount of Honors points we are sitting on... I've said no more DVC purchases until those are drained!

We have the $49 fee card. If you use it all the time for double point items like we do, the benefits over the no fee card quickly outweigh the annual $49. If you have Disney+/Hulu, then even more so. We wracked up over $500 in rewards just from one VGF contract purchase two years ago alone. That would have been only $250 with the no fee card.

OTOH, if you will hardly ever use it, and just want a Disney swag credit card, then get the no fee card. From a financial standpoint, picking between the two cards is really that simple.

Thanks for all the information. I'm getting the $49/annual card and I will be using it for an upcoming DVC purchase and apparently for my Hulu/Disney+ bill.

One more question, is it obvious on the website if something was coded for 6 months no interest? I have other cards that I get 0% once in a while and it's not obvious on the website unless I look at a statement. If something is coded incorrectly, I would want to know immediately vs. waiting for a statement.
