what would you say is the best hotel in Down town Disney, possibly a new one? Disney hotels are just way to much money and I have been in them so long now is the time to save money in this economy :)

I am not being snarkey :flower3: but just saying that more people might have an answer on the parks boards. Good luck!

Well looking at your post count I see that you are not new and probably have a reason for asking here instead. NEVERMIND. :) I have only been to DL. I assume there is a DTD in WDW too. DL pretty much only has A disney hotel in DTD.

The one time we stayed at a Downtown Disney hotel, I hated it. The shared bus for DTD hotels took soooo long and got really crowded (way worse than any Disney property resort). And it wasn't that much of a monetary savings.

That said, I would be willing to offsite at one of the nice places that's close to WDW. But, I would require that we have a car and drive ourselves to the park. Also, I would want my kids to be older so that we last longer at the parks each visit (my young kids can't last longer than 4 or 5 hours at a shot... they get overstimulated).

I agree that the folks on the resorts board might be able to point you in the best direction for a reasonably-priced off-site resort.

There aren't any new DTD hotels but I've stayed at the Royal Plaza once a few years ago and it was nice. I think we've also stayed at the Buena Vista Palace.

We stayed at the Double Tree a few years ago and it was ok. Not great but certainly not bad. Be careful with that one because there is another Double Tree that is marketed as being in the Downtown Disney area that is an old Days Inn and not so great.

But I agree the resorts board may be more helpful.

I was at first going to ask on the resort board but I just figured that was only for hotels in the park, no other reasoning there. I'll try over there to tomorrow, thanks for your answers I appreciate that

We stayed at the Doubletree Suites in DTD. Transportation wasn't an issue since we had a car, and it was very convenient, and significantly cheaper for our family of 5.

We have stayed at BEst Western first when it was a Travel Lodge for a week & then a couple of over nights thru Priceline. Very Large Rooms with Balconies, Buffet kinda yucky, nice staff. Doubletree once for 2 nights when DS was a baby, great room nice having a suite. The old Marriot which well be a HI soon again nice rooms, great staff, free cocktail hour. One nite. BV Palace very nice, clean & wonderful staff loved the location. One Nite. We did priceline for most of these stays. We have found the room at these places to be way bigger than most at WDW. The Palace staff was the best & the bell boy knew tons about WDW. He should be running the Resessie Center for WDW;)

Remember some have a resort fee around $16 per nite & you have to pay $12 to park at the parks.

I've heard it's not much of a monetary savings too. The OP would save more money by staying in a value or mod (depending on time of year they will be traveling).

As for transportation, wouldn't it be easiest to just wait for a bus to the resort nearest to each park and walk a few minutes? You can certainly walk to MK from the Comtemporary or take the bus to any of the monorail resorts and hop on the monorail just a few minutes to MK. Or wait for a BW area resort bus and walk a few minutes to Epcot or DHS? It's a pretty walk as well. The only park that would be inconvenient is DAK.

CHeck out the WDW Swan and Dolphin. Not "Disney" branded hotels but great EPCOT location and lots of times you can find great rates there. I've seen rates of $119 a night lately. We stayed at the Swan years back and it was nice and the location is to die for. Ten times better than out Hotel Royal Plaza stay. DH had me book us into the Contemporary after one night at the Royal Plaza, lol. Agree also about those shared DTD buses too.

ETA I just checked in your time frame based on your countdown timer and the teacher, military, nurse rate is $149 a night. That's for a deluxe category resort also.

We stayed 2 nights at the Hilton before moving to Disney. I pricelined it for about $60. It was ok since it was only 2 nights (1 getting there after midnight) but I wouldn't want to stay there my entire vacation.

note I recently tried to priceline the hilton and ended up in celebration.
