Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Did 3.1 miles tonight. SO NICE outside, but I absolutely must go get new running sneaks tomorrow. My feet are killing me. :confused3

Good for you!!!!! Shoes will make all of the difference. Do you have a running store near you?

Thanks Dan! Yep, we have the South Jersey Running & Triathlon Company.
Anything I should look for in particular?

Make sure they fit you and watch you walk and run in the shoes. When I got my first set fitted it took me almost an hour of trying different shoes on and them watching me with every single pair. I will not buy another pair of running shoes outside of a running store any more or if you find the pair you like go to the running warehouse they may have them cheaper.

Hello Ducks! I just want to report on my IWISH 5K, I guess I could have kept going into a 10K, but as I have not run much since the half, I stuck with the 5K. I finished in 27:48, still a bit slower than running with a bunch of other runners. The weather has been really nice after the weekend storm. Big swing in temperatures, mornings are a bit cool, I have to still wear my booties and tights and jacket to ride to work, but rode home yesterday and today in just shorts. Can't wait until spring! And less than two months to a trip to DW.

Augie - Glad you got your Lucky Run done! Luck of the Iwish, that is.

Joe - I've been thinking about your question...my best day at Disney. I'd have to say it was a day last fall on my sister trip to WDW. One day, we went to the MK and my sister finally broke down and bought some Minnie Mouse ears (I had bought my Mickey Mouse ears days before). I think that was what finally broke the "magic" dam open for her. We headed over to Tomorrowland and rode on Astro Orbiter and Buzz and we just laughed our heads off silly! Seemed like there wasn't that many people in the park, so we just walked on lots of the attractions that morning. This was the day that made me fall back in love with the MK. Epcot used to be my favorite park, but after traveling to every country in WS but Morocco in the REAL world, it lost it's "favorite" status with me. So this memorable day in the MK with my sister is what sealed the MK as my new, favorite park. Just good memories from many trips back. All the way back to 1976, when our family took our first and only trip to WDW...when only the MK existed. Snif.

Okay, now I got a serious question for all the Ducks. The 180 day ADR window will be opening soon for dates in and around the W&D 1/2 marathon on 2 October. Hypothetically, if you were running the 5K fun run at 7 AM at the MK, then planned to run the 1/2 marathon at 10 PM, where would eat that day, and when? I'm thinking of making a late breakfast reservation for my big meal of the day, but I don't know where to eat that won't make me feel like lead by 10 PM. Any ideas? Anyone? Ferris Bueller?!?

BTW - We had snow flurries here today, so spring is still a ways around the corner for us. Not sure when I'll get outside to run again, but I know my treadmill days are numbered, so I'm encouraged.

Good question. I would say you are right and have the good Brunch. I would do the crystal palace. You will have plenty of time to burn it off, I would stay away from the sausage and bacon though. I would take a late lunch around 3-4 I wouldn't eat anything more than a chicken breast salad or a turkey wrap and some fruit. I would also make sure I ate some type of light carb snack (oatmeal) around 7-8. I am one who can not have a lot sitting on my stomach when I run. I did not realize the W&D was being run so late at night.

Renee, I had the same question last October when I did the ToT, did not know what to eat or where. Was also a bit concerned as the longest I had ran up to that point was 4 miles at the most, usually just doing 3 mile runs. I sometimes feel I have no clue as to proper training tactics. Anyway, as I was staying at BW, I just went down to Big River and sat outside and had a chicken sandwich. I guess this was a bit before 3 in the afternoon. I even had a beer with it. (you need carbs, right?) There was another couple at the next tabe who were also running that night, but I do not remember what they had, but I do know they were drinking only water. So, the chicken worked out for me, had no problem during the run. I have also been thinking about last January, and cannot for the life of me remember what I did for dinner before the half. I know I sat at the bar at Big River one night, so that might have been it.

Hello Ducks! :grouphug:

My family has left and I can finally get back to a normal routine. :thumbsup2 I had a great time visiting with everyone, but I don't do well with exercise and eating when my schedule is off.

Just finished a 2.27 mile run! :cool1:

Thanks so much Dan. They did watch me walk & checked my arches. It sure did take a while. I got Brooks Glycerin for $117 :scared1:
That is by far the MOST I have ever spent on shoes!
The guy told me I'll need another pair in late summer & then one more in December. Is this correct?

WHOO-HOO! When are you going? We JUST booked a May trip today to "celebrate" (or hide from) my 40th. :rotfl:

We'll send some of our 70 degree (thank goodness) weather up your way!

We will be at WDW starting May 9th for 9 nights, staying at BWV. If anyone is there at the same time let me know. I'm planning on doing a Eating around the World, with Debbie (wife) and doing every Epcot WS attraction, something I haven't done in a long time.

I would love to fit a trip at that time into our schedule!!!!! Dh and I have a lot going on this year....so it's probably not possible, but in my dreams it is! :)

Running shoes are changed by mileage...so yes, they say somewhere around 300+ miles - trust me, I'm not thrilled about it either! I have to get another pair of my Asics, and they're up there in price -- hard for me to spend that much - but I'll be honest, I tried a less expensive "similar" pair and they just don't fit me the same way...and feel the same way. Lesson learned - stick with the shoes that fit me properly. When you get a pair that feel incredible on your feet - treasure that!

For new runners, just a head's up...what felt fine at say 3 miles and things that didn't chafe, that changes when you increase your mileage...so if you're running a mile or two in your "regular sneakers" that you've used for everything else, and aren't sure what people are talking about -- when you increase your mileage, some of those things kick in...

...suddenly things that didn't chafe, chafed....GOOD fitting running shoes make a big difference, etc...I didn't understand those things as a new runner until i went through that experience...was like OHHHHHHHHHH, now i get it.

Hope sharing that helps someone

I will be there the 13th to the 16th. There is a group from the solo travelers board that I am going to meet. I, as well as many of them, are staying at BW. So maybe I will see you or Joe out running somewhere. I do usually run in the mornings around the lake and down the canal.

Augie I look forward to "running" into you in May. :donald:

I had a good week running, I did 4 miles this morning around the neighborhood, I finally found my playlist on my ipod for working out, Beck, Chemical Brothers, Fat Boy Slim, The Wiseguys and a little Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (just becauses they're fun to listen to).:hippie:

Being a newb to this running thing, if I do good this summer with my training do you think I will be ok to do another half marathon 2 weeks after the Wine & Dine? Debbie is planning on walking the Detroit half and I'm thinking about running it. Dan said it earlier, races are like "crack". I would like to do the Air Force half marathon in Dayton, but it is 3 weeks before the Wine & Dine and I don't want to mess up my race at WDW. Not ever doing this before I'm thinking 3 half marathons in 1 months time is pushing it. How do you experienced runners feel a couple weeks after an event?:mickeyjum

Hey Triple D's,

I've been away from the boards way too much, but wanted to stop by to say "hi", at least.

Only did two runs this week, 5 on Tuesday, 7 on Thursday. Officially signed up for my spring race, though, on May 30th, so I've got a clear roadmap of sorts for training (sort of).

Been having an interesting bunch of issues, ranging from not sleeping well, to feeling a bit sick (quite possibly allergy related), to having some work-related troubles that have absorbed way too much of my time in the past week or so.

Hoping that by next week I finally get feeling a little better overall!

Timmac: Hope you're feeling better soon all around.

I'll be at OKW May 16-21 in case we run into anyone. :yay:
