Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Another beautiful day in Virginia. Got in a good workout in the gym today, but starting to feel really blah about not being able to run. I think I may give my knee until the middle of next week and try a light jog around the neighborhood to see how it feels. I really don't think I can wait until a spot open up at the PT.

Hope everyone is having a great day!!!! :cool1:

i'm another who has been avoiding here! :lmao:

my last run was my iWISH 10k on 3/17. it's shameful. we spent the weekend in asheville at the TOP of the mountain. i just didn't have it in me to get out on the narrow roads with insane inclines! plus, the curves were sharp and i didn't know how safe it would be if a car came and didn't see me. anyway, came home with a nasty sinus infection. so, i haven't felt up to it.

i have a 10k this saturday, so i would like to get out tonight for at least two miles. DD is on spring break this week, so i haven't had any "me" time since DH has been getting home late. i know. excuses, excuses. ;)

I've mentioned sleep issues lately, but what's more odd for me has been that it hasn't really taken a big toll on my productivity. That said, the past week to two weeks has seen less running and exercise than I might have liked.

Earlier this week I got an 8 miler that felt ok, although some chest congestion was starting to get the better of me by the end of it.

Tonight, my plan was to try to get a little longer run than that. Instead, I had the good fortune of getting home a little early (ahead of things work wise), and was able to get outside for quite some time. After about 2.5 hours and just shy of 15 miles, I got home. Only problem was, there was a water supply issue in my neighborhood, such that water was coming out brown. (Quite literally, was very obvious in the toilet especially... gross as that sounds) Fortunately, I'm a member at the Y just a few minutes away.

So, up to the YMCA I head. I get in and figure while I'm there, maybe I'll grab a quick workout on the crossramp since I was still feel surprisingly energetic. Two hours and ten miles later, I got in the shower.

Apparently all this time of relative rest has treated me well? Oddly enough, if they hadn't been closing, I probably could have pushed myself for another hour or more... by caloric burn rate alone, I should have walled pretty hard, but never did. Not sure what the heck is going on, but I really feel quite well overall. :confused3

Amazing workout today, Tim! Hope you don't pay for it too bad tomorrow...

We're still hovering in winter here. We had snow on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. We didn't make it to 40 degF today, so there's still remnants of snow here and there. Hoping for a nice weekend, as I'm heading to Jasper National Park for the weekend. Got in 13 miles this week. Trying to cut back a little and let the IT band heal a bit.

Hope all the Ducks have a GREAT weekend!

It started out a rainy day, and they eb=ven said there was a chance of snow. No rain, no snow, and the sun is out. I came home from work a bit early, went on the bike to do some errands, and then ran the IWISH route again. I am happy to say I almost cut a minute off of my time. I am going to have to start running more, I have a some duathlons coming up the first one near the end of April.

Dan, good luck on your test, and have a good time in NYC! I had a change of plans, something else came up tonight so I will not be going in.

Renee, have a nice trip to Jasper, and maybe I will see you at Big River.

Have a good weekend, all you Ducks!

Quick drop in, will stop by this weekend, read back and do personals.

Finally got a long run in - 8 miles. I have another 1/2 in 2 weeks, so I needed this to help boost my confidence. Wanted to check in quickly.

I managed my 10k today. I've been sick the past week, so I wasn't sure how I'd feel. It is one of the biggest races (I think they said 20th in the world) with over 38,000 registered (they have 33,030 finishers). And it was cool for here. I stood in the corral wrapped in a blanket! The bridge has a 4% incline, and I'm not used to that (my normal route is much more flat). I wanted to get out and run a test run, but haven't been able to fit it in with my schedule and being sick.

Anyhoo, enough of that. My chip time was 59:44. My goal was under an hour, so I barely made it. I had to walk part of the bridge (on the way up). I realized I wasn't running very quickly, so figured I'd save my energy by walking a little bit.

I don't know where that time will put me if I turn it in for the half in January. I have another 10k I'd planned for the fall. I don't know how fast I need to run that in order to get a better corral for Disney.

Good morning Ducks!
Tim: WOW:scared1: on the 5 hour work out the other day. Good job!

Deb: nice job on the 8 miles :thumbsup2

Dan: Good luck on the test. Impressive view from your room.

Liz: has a Star been born?

I just ran 5 miles around the neighborhood, a personel best for me. http://roadrunnergps.com/gps/shared/MH53

My legs feel good. My training schedule has me running Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and a long run run on Saturday. I've decided this week that my shins can't take the pounding from running 2 days in a row, so I'm going to swim on Tuesdays instead.

Well Steph had her interview this week for the Disney college program, she thinks she will be offered a custodial position, which she isn't keen on, but I think she will do it if it's offered. I told her that is my Disney dream job, walk the park and pick up popcorn and trash and paint hidden mickeys on the ground with a wet broom.:goodvibes:goodvibes

Good weekend everyone!:hippie:

Joe - about the 1/2 two weeks later, your endurance will still be there. What took me by surprise was my lack of wanting to run for a little bit after my 1/2. I took 2 weeks off...but am glad i have another race behind it, or i wouldn't have restarted, haaa - (my next is in april - about 5 weks after my first) - exciting for daughter and WDW college program! Good luck to her --ooh, just read she thinks she'll get an offer, nice!

Tim- glad to hear you ahve a spring race waiting for you...nice job on getting in the 12 miles combined! - hope you're feeling like yourself again sooner than later -- and wow, hello big runs! Glad you're feeling more like yourself...glad you didn't hit the wall

Cali- I did 8 miles last night, and I knew i feel better running on a lighter stomach, so I had a big breakfast, light lunch and VERY light dinner (read: protein shake) -- everyone is different, but for the W/D, i'll probably do a sandwich around 3pm and a very light snack later - also hope the shoe issues clear up...i had to play around to find my right pair...but when you find them, oh my gosh, they are awesome!

Dan- thinking of you and your testing/NYC today...you've got this...good luck! Haven't done Disney on Christmas Day, but we do Thanksgiving often...I always avoid the masses and go with maybe a hotel restaurant or something different - so we're more relaxed...

Augie- hope you find a pair of shoes that work for you..trust yourself too! What they put me in, i went back and exchanged a week later and was glad i trusted myself...went from structured to neutral and it worked better for me

Liz- sorry to hear about the hip soreness..not related to IT band from running? Good luck finding your answer

LadyDooley - welcome to the Ducks, nice to have you with us

Carissa- great job...and look how far you've come! Remember when you were nervous to do the 20 mins? You are doing great

DisneyDad, glad you got the okay to run again...take it easy!

Emily - good luck with your 10k, and i know how one day turns into another and no running..i go through patterns like that too - just read you did it..wow, 38,000 people! Nice job on meeting your goal time

--
I do fine hydrating during a run...i need to hydrate better before a big run...i was drinking diet coke all day yesterday not even thinking about it...not good. Need to plan that better...I felt it later -- drank tons after, but still...

glad i got a big run in though, because it was overdue

Carissa - You go girl! You're my inspiration many days! Really, you are! Keep it up! 20 minutes is just about over the peak. What gives out at 20 minutes? Your legs or your lungs? If your lungs are making you stop (you're too winded) then slow down a bit. You'll get to the point in running where you're never winded. Eventually, you'll be able to go for as long as your legs hold out. If your legs are giving out, then you just need to keep strenthening them. Taking a little weight helps me, too.;)

Sorry I missed this before!

Thanks for your encouragement. :goodvibes It's usually a case of both the lungs and the legs giving me issues, but it's mostly my brain. :rolleyes1 I'll update on how I'm doing in just a minute.

I hope your IT band is feeling better!

Tim - Awesome workouts even with not being 100% healthy. :thumbsup2

Emily - Sounds like you did great with your 10K especially since you haven't had much running time lately. :cool1:

Augie - Congrats on beating your IWISH time! :thumbsup2

Deb - Great job on the 8 mile run! :woohoo:

Dan - How's the knee doing?

Joe - Awesome on the 5 mile run! :cheer2:

Liz - Thinking about you and hoping your hip is doing better.

As for me - Drumroll please!! I just finished a 25-minute run!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: The rest of the C25K program is gradually increasing that time to 30 minutes. Once I get there, I will start increasing my tortoise-like speed (actually, we have a tortoise and he can be pretty fast when he wants to be). Oh - and I did my usual 6 miles this week. Looking forward to doing an average of at least 10 miles a week.

I apologize if I missed anyone! Hope everyone is having a great weekend. :goodvibes

Wow, everyone is doing a great job of getting out and moving! I'm still working up to longer runs, right now I walk 3-5 miles usually 5 days a week. I need to increase so that 1 day a week I'm doing 10 miles.
Being a walker it takes a bit of a time commitment, AND nice weather. 5 miles is about as much as I can stand on a treadmill, so now that the weather is finally starting to warm up I should find it easier to get out.

In addition to my walking, on Mon & Wed, I do 1 hour classes of kickboxing, and on Tues., Thurs., and Sat., 1 hour classes of Zumba (love it). I used to fit in weights a couple of times a week, but have slacked off on those the past couple of months.

Triple D's Rock!

Sounds like you have a great workout routine. :thumbsup2 I've heard such great things about Zumba.

I really enjoy the classes, the time flies by and I feel like I've had a great all over workout. I'm not a dancer, but the Zumba is still a lot of fun and a great workout.

Hey everyone, I just got back from a vacation to DC and found I am new to your team!!! YIPEE!!!:woohoo:

I am almost 40 and started running for the first time in my life a couple months ago, I almost made it to 3 miles continuously and plan on the Wine and Dine half marathon in October!

I did though run a couple miles on the tred mill while on vacation. :)

:hippie:

Carissa, WTG on your 25-minute run! You are making such great progress! And you should be proud of yourself for sticking to the program! It's all smooth sailing from here!!

SamSam, I'm with you on wanting nice weather. I don't have a treadmill, so I'm dependent on the weather. But I couldn't handle that long on one either! Gracious! Your workout plate is full! Amazing!!!

LadyDooley, welcome! I'm a somewhat new runner too (started in October). It sounds like you are doing great!

Welcome to our team!!! I'm 56 and will be walking the Wine and Dine Half in October. Wahoo, I think it will be a fun event.

Joe~ That is so neat about your DD and the college program! Keep us posted. I guess a custodial postition can be a lot of different things...I hope it's not bathroom duty!

And to answer your question: Not sure yet if a star has been born. :) He says he wants to do it again though, so we shall see.

Dan~ In 2008 we ate at Chef Mickey's for dinner on Christmas. We won't do that again, it was fun, but not where we want to eat Christmas dinner again. I'm not sure where we'll eat this year...have not thought about it yet. As far as the castle, yeah, MK will be busy that day. However, I have read multiple reports that it actually isn't as bad towards the later part of the day. I might give it a go if I were you.

Carissa~ Congrats on the 25 minute run!! You are right on track and doing awesome! :thumbsup2

LadyDooley~ Welcome, again! :) Here's the survery we've been filling out to get to know each other...fill it if you want to:

As for me~ Just not-fun stuff as far as running: I'm callilng the treadmill company this morning to hopefully get the ball rolling on that. My dh called them awhile ago and they never called back. Hopefully I can get it taken care of asap. And I'm also calling my doctor to get my hip checked.

Hello Ducks! I hope everyone had a great weekend and that your workouts were all good. I just wanted to drop in just to say it fells so good to finally get back going after a minor setback. I hit the roads this weekend and did a nice and easy 5k run and woke early this morning and got a 1 hour workout in :yay:. But anyway good luck training this week everyone.

Lady, I just started running a few months ago also...and will also be at the Wine/Dine...looking forward to getting to know you more
