Happy Saturday Ducks! How's everyone doing? I can't believe we're halfway through July already.

Besides when being away for the 4th of July messed up my workout plan a little bit, I've been doing well sticking with three days of running and two of biking. I had made a 16 week training plan for Wine&Dine. So, 5 weeks done, 11 to go! My "long" run was 4 miles this week and will be next week as well.

Carissa~MMMM, that cake! :faint:

Savannah~Way to go on the 5K! You've got a Disney trip coming up soon huh? You must be so excited! :)

Jeni~Congrats on your neighborhood 10K! That's wonderful the inhaler has made such a difference for you. :goodvibes

Augie~Wow, those do sound like some huge trophies! Sorry you had to miss those races, but sounds like it was a good trip.

Joe~You and Debbie are going to have such fun in Disneyland! :)

Laura~That's interesting that your 5 mile time was about the same with and without walk breaks. What kind of run/walk do you do? I've done run 1 mile/walk 1 minute, run half mile/walk 1 minute, run 5 min/walk 1 min. I'm only up to 4 miles with my W&D training but so far I run nonstop. I'm thinking I'll run my 5 milers nonstop, but then switch to run/walk for my 6+ runs. We'll see though. My big thing is preventing darn injuries!

Karin~Of course you're still a Duck! Everyone on the list is whether they like it or not! :teeth:
I'm glad you're doing better! A 9:49 pace for 5 miles would be fast for me. So I think that's great! :)

Liz - You've been doing so great!

The other day I ordered a recumbent exercise bike and it should be delivered in a week or so. I'm so excited to be able to use it at home for my cross-training! Plus, my husband likes to workout on the bike so it'll be good for both of us.

Tomorrow I need to get back on track. The relay marathon is less than 6 months away. I'm not ready to start specifically training for it yet, but I need to get back into the habit of working out regularly and eating better. I need ya'll to kick my butt if I don't!

Carissa that's great you decided to get the bike!

I'm pretty excited! Now I can get another workout in while watching TV. :)

Just finished 3 miles on the treadmill. Slowly trying to increase my run intervals. I'm so out of shape. But, my laziness ends today! I feel very motivated at the moment. Just need to keep it going. :woohoo:

Hey Liz,
On the really long runs, I've been using a 4 min run/ 1 min walk interval. Galloway suggests this pace for a 10 min. mile, but I've been winding up more like 11 in the summer. He says you should do your long training runs about 2 minutes per mile slower. I don't know how I could realistically run 2 minutes per mile faster than my training though.

Switched to the mileage component of the Higdon plan because I didn't feel the mileage of Galloway had me where I needed to be. Guess we shall see. October 30 is quickly approaching!

Hey Ducks! I'm still here in the pond, too. :wave2:

My morning runs are going well. I've spotted a few armadillos in the dark. No recent sitings of Tinkerbell. I've had donuts thrown at me. But they missed. Ha! pirate: Who would throw donuts at a runner at 4:45 in the morning?!? :confused3

I've also discovered the fitness center at work! So now I'm lifting weights and working on core two days a week before work, while running four days, and taking one day off for rest every week. So far so good. :thumbsup2

Went to Santa Barbara, CA this weekend for my annual "party with the women engineers". I planned a 10K run for the ladies, and I even bought some medals for all the participants! We had LOTS of fun, and everyone won in their age division (admittedly, I had to slice some of the divisions pretty small, but it worked!). Since I finished ahead of the group, I kept running along the beach/boardwalk and got in a 7 mile run on Saturday. Then a handful of us went running 5 miles on Sunday morning, so I had a good weekend. I'm feeling like I'm coming down with a cold now. Hopefully, it's just airplane "junk", but we'll see.

Hope everyone has a good week! Quack on!

OMG! Someone threw donuts at you??????????? Seriously???????????

I woke up today at 4:45 to run today, but it was still pitch black. I run at night in the dark, but it just seemed so eerie out there - less life I guess. Do you run with mace or something? I don't live in a very populated urban area or anything . . . but people are crazy. Tell me how you do it!

Hi all!

Renee: What kind of donuts were they? That's just pastry abuse.

Sounds like everyone is doing good with their training:cool1:.
I managed a 12 mile run on Saturday and did 4 miles today after work when it was 94 degrees. The weather report for Thursday calls for 101. I draw the line at running outside in triple digit temps.:santa:
I have been staying consistent with my running 3 days a week, but I really need to get back to cross training a couple days a week. Gotta get off the couch in the evenings.:happytv:
I'm getting pretty excited, Debbie and I are going to see Paul McCartney in concert on Sunday. To you youngsters out there, Paul McCartney was in a band called The Beatles before being in Wings:rotfl2:.
I'll let you know how it was.
Have a good week!
Joe

Hi Everyone!

Finished 4 miles this morning. Super slow pace, but I finished (10:23). I was dripping.

Renee:  I can't believe someone threw donuts @ you! I don't know what I would have done - I would have been dumbfounded.

Joe: 94 degrees! :worship: We're slated for 100 tomorrow too - I'm gonna see what the early AM temp is.

Laura: I do the same as you! Higdon for the plan, but Galloway run/walk ratios. I do 3 min. run/1 min. walk & love it! I run faster & easier. I'm doing the Philly half as well! 8 weeks to go!

Liz: Thank you for welcoming me back!

Have a GREAT (try to stay cool) day everyone!
Karin

Hi Everyone,

I know it's been awhile since I posted... cause it's been awhile since I have been doing any serious running. I completed my 2nd 5K in the beginning of June. And then I am not sure what happened. I think it has alot to do with my kids being out of school and we have been doing some traveling in the past month. Just got out of my groove. BUT I got back on the treadmill this week (it is just too darn hot and humid to run outside)! I am in awe of those of you who do :worship: Now I know why Disney Marathon Events take place in January and February! Speaking of which, I really, really, really would love to do a Disney Half in 2012. My plan is to stay on the treadmill for July and August and hopefully get back to running outside in September. Hope the treadmill diversion doesn't mess me up for HM training.

Laura - I saw your post on FaceBook about the MCM. What a great cause! I am going to pop over to your pledge page and make a donation this afternoon.

Renee - Seriously, donuts?!?!

Happy Summer Everyone. Stay Cool.

I'm staying with bounceliketigger. Hang with us - how fast are you? Maybe we will be near each other?

Hi Everyone,

Laura - I saw your post on FaceBook about the MCM. What a great cause! I am going to pop over to your pledge page and make a donation this afternoon.
Robyn,
I can't thank you enough for your donation! Thanks so much - it was very thoughtful of you!

Happy Birthday Robyn! :cheer2:

Shannon & Laura: I'm around 9:46/10 minute pace. Hope I can meet up with you ladies at some point during the Philly half!

I've been thinking about the mace thing, but I haven't done anything about it. I run in a VERY urban setting. I wear a reflective vest. And I see maybe three moving vehicles on each run, if I'm lucky. No one is out between 4 and 6 AM. Except donut eaters and armadillos. There's always lots of porch lights on, so I know that if I got into trouble, I'd probably yell, "FIRE!", as loud and as long as I could to get someone's attention in a nearby house.

Renee: What kind of donuts were they? That's just pastry abuse.

 I can't believe someone threw donuts @ you! I don't know what I would have done - I would have been dumbfounded.

Joe - Not sure on the flavor. I just saw something hit the pavment in front of me that had been ejected from a passing vehicle. It rolled and crumbled apart. So I'm thinking it was a cake donut, not raised. Indeed, pastry abuse.

I almost yelled, "Missed me!", but then calculated that they could easily turn around and throw the other 11 that they most certainly had sitting in their front seat at me. So I bit my tongue and made the left turn towards the house.

Sigh. What kind of person would DO this to a donut?!? :confused3 Pastry cruelty!

On a more positive note, my sister and I have now officially registered for the 2012 Princess Half Marathon. It will be her first half. I'll go her pace and finish with her. It'll be a bonding weekend and LOTS of fun! We're still working on costume ideas. Our team name is "Blistered Sisters". So now I'm signed up for three WDW half marathons in the next six months. Whew!

I'll be attempting an 8-miler tomorrow morning. I haven't run since I got home from California on Monday. I've just come home every night after work and crashed in bed...by about 6 PM every night. Can you say exhausted?!? That's why I'm hoping I can pull off an 8-miler at dark-thirty tomorrow morning.

Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend. Take a quick lap around the Duck pond and take care!

Renee: I'm jealous. Three WDW half marathons in the next six months! :worship:

Finished four miles this morning, slower pace than usual, but finished.
Slated for four on Wednesday & Six on Friday.

What's everyone's plan this week?

AND I am very impatiently waiting for our resale points to come through to book our room for the Marathon...arrrggggh!

Hey Ducks!!! Hope all of you are doing well and your training is going good in this wonderful sauna weather we've all been having. I've been sidelined a little by blisters from my work boots. So I haven't been doing as much running as I would like. But they are getting better so I should be able to get back to it Friday or Saturday. Good luck training and stay safe out there.

Tim

Hi everyone! I havn't been running all that much. It's too blamed hot!

I did the Hospice Run at the beginning of this month. It was an emotional race and I kinda cried while trying to run. I got blisters on my toes too! ughh... My fiance didn't run the race with me, he didn't get off work in time. He did come straight from work in uniform just so he could be there when i finished though :)

The next race I have is the Hard Crab Derby. :0

Hi Tim and Megan! Glad you guys stopped by! :wave2:

Well, I got my 8 miler in last Friday. Not a problem. ;) Then I ran 4 miles on Saturday. In the last tenth of a mile, I felt my calf seize up on me. And it's been sore ever since. I ran slow this past Tuesday and Thursday and it felt...okay. But I can still tell something is going on. It's been over a week now and it's still not "normal". It feels tightest right at the top of the Achilles where it attaches to the calf muscle. I've rolled it and stretched it. I still have dull ache. It's just not...right. I haven't run for three days (I HATE "giving" away a full weekend to no running!).

So. Would I be stupid to give a short, slow run a try on Monday? :confused3 Anyone? Anyone?!? Ferris?

Renee: I'd try it, but obviously stop @ any twinge or pain.

Are you doing any calf raises to strengthen? That may help. (at least it helped me).

GOOD LUCK with it!

Calf raises?!? Um. Give me a hint. What does this entail? I'm willing to try anything!
