Woo hoo! I reached my fundraising minimum today for my MCM run for the Semper Fi Fund. Now, everything else I raise will be above and beyond. I'm doing a bake sale next weekend outside of a local grocery store, and I am scheduled to speak at the next American Legion meeting at the end of August to share about my marathon training efforts!

After that, I will focus on the running part only - Facebook and generous Facebook friends made reaching my initial fundraising goal doable. I am blessed and so happy to help our wounded soldiers and their families! :lovestruc

Laura: CONGRATS on making your fund raising goal! That's so cool about your speaking engagement too!

Renee: Your calf muscles are directly connected to your Achilles tendon, so strengthening the calf & all parts of the leg may help.
Here's a calf raise example: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/back/achilles/tendinitis/strengthen.php

Focus on the lowering part as the anterior tibialis (foot flexion) is the opposing muscle group & this will help your Achilles as well.
HOPE THIS HELPS! :thumbsup2

Spent the last two weeks on an island in Maine.
Weather was wonderful and I went out to run almost everyday. I did a mile loop up and down the two biggest hills on the island. The first day I thought it was impossible but by the end of the first week I did them both without huffing. By the end it was a piece of cake!! LOVE IT!!!

Now running in the NJ heat is a whole different story

Hello, all you Ducks! It has been a while since I posted on here, sounds like we are all keeping busy. I have been doing a few races here and there, just some 5K's. Just did one last Tuesday, and have a 4 miler this Saturday. I am planning on a 10K two weeks before the W&D. My running in general has slacked off a bit, the weather has been pretty hot. Getting time in at the beach though, and still biking a fair amount. Less than two months until W&D, see you all down there!

Happy Weekend to all the Ducks!
Hope everyone is healthy and doing good with their running.
I had my longest run to date today, 15.1 miles. It felt really good and I didn't have any problems. When we set out this morning it was low 70's temp but a 90% humidity. I was soaked right down to my socks. My shoes made a squishy sound at every step the last couple miles. It would have been nice if someone tossed me a donut at the halfway point:lmao:.
Debbie did really good, she ran 12.5 miles. She's funny, her training schedule says to do 14 miles, but she wants here first 13.1 mile run to be the DL Half.
I have one more long run next week (17) then start tapering for the DL.

Wine & Diners is it too early to discuss a Duck meet? We fly in on Friday morning and are staying at PO Riverside. We are staying till late Monday afternoon. I think October is my favorite time to go to WDW. I would like to do the Halloween party, but we are skipping it this year. Anyone that is going to be there on Friday we are planning on spending the day at HS, so maybe a Duck Fantasmic?
Have a good week everyone.:hippie:

I'll be there [but not running!]!

Joe-

We're planning on being in DHS on Friday, too. We have an ADR for the Hollywood Brown Derby for lunch at noon, then we'll cut over to the expo sometime in the afternoon to pick up packets.

Maybe a little elevator action?!? Or rock-n-roll? Any other Ducks up to the challenge? Augie, are you in?

BTW - looks like your post has a typo. Your longest run...1.1 miles?

Last Monday, I finally damaged my calf enough to have to go see an orthopedist. I'm now wearing one of those funky huge boots and doing NO running. :sad2: The boot is just to stop me from agitating the calf for a while. I've got no pain. I'm scheduled to go back to see him this Thursday. I ran an 8-miler with no problems a few weeks ago, so if I can get healthy and get a few more long runs in, I should be able to fake my way through the W&D Half.

Is anyone else in for a W&D Duck Meet? :thumbsup2

Joe-

Thanks Renee, I missed that one. Was everyone thinking "big deal 1.1 miles"?

It was 15.1 miles.

I'm up for a ride on RnRC and deffinately a ride on the elevators, anyone else? Liz :wave2: looking your way.

Joe

Hi Ducks!

Things are going fine here...I'm up to 6 miles for my W&D training. My long runs from here on out are: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 8, W&D! What are your long run plans fellow W&Ders?

Can't remember if I mentioned this before, but my friend Kelly is going with my for the W&D trip again. We'll do the same thing as last year...arrive Friday and leave Sunday night. We're staying at POR this year though because POFQ was already sold out when I booked. We're only going in the parks on Saturday (MK-40th anniv day!), and of course Epcot Saturday night. She got an After Party ticket again. So, I won't be able to attend a DHS meet on Friday. (Gee, I am so very bummed I can't ride ToT with you all... boo. hoo. ;)) But I WAS hoping we could meet up and hang out before the race again! Yes??

Megan~Aww, I bet the Hospice Race was emotional.

Renee~I'm sorry about the leg issue!! Have you heard of the soleus muscle? I learned about it due to my Achilles issues. I wonder if that's where your problem is?

Laura~Congrats on your great fundraising!

Karen~WTG on the hill running!

Augie~Yep see you at W&D! It's coming up fast now!

Joe~WTG on 15.1 miles! And you're doing a 17?! That's getting so close to full marathon training distance...hmm?

That crossed my mind also. The Goofy might be calling me. I think that's one call I'll let go to voice mail. I still don't have a desire to run a full marathon, maybe in 4 years when I turn 50:confused3.

Did everyone see the WDW 2012 half marathon medal that was unveiled today? Debbie liked it so much, she is thinking about signing up for the race :thumbsup2.
Happy Monday everyone.
Joe

Aww, cool medal!!! Can't wait to see what the relay one will look like - it'll be my first Inagural race! Here's a link to the article I found with a photo of the new Donald medal from wesh.com:

BTW, thought I'd throw my progress in the mix here. Since knee surgery back on 3 May, I'm now up to running 4 miles. Woo-hoo!!!!

I understand that. I still don't have a desire to do a full either. I thought I might by now, but I don't. I sort of feel like I have to do one eventually though...because I might regret it if I didn't?? Maybe in 5 years when I am 40..

I saw it and I like it a lot! It's SO different from the past Donald medals, and I love that. I was hoping they'd do something really special for the 15th and they did! That's great Debbie's considering it, she totally should! And then you both can do the relay too! :teeth:

Tanya are you signed up for the relay now? I seem to remember you were thinking about it, did you find a partner?

That's great your knee is doing well, keep up the good training!!

Yes!! I found a fellow WISHer on the Marathon Relay partner thread! Kristi1357 was also looking for a partner. So we signed up before the last price increase in early July. :thumbsup2

I'm still taking it easy on the knee by not pushing too hard. Overall it feels good, so ever so slowly I'm increasing the running time/distance. I finished today at a 13 min/mile pace. Assuming I can get that down a wee bit over the next few months, and hold it for 13.1 miles, I should be good! It's a process.

Joe - I'm in for the RnRC and the elevator! We'll just have to wait until January to catch Liz on the elevator. If Augie's around on Friday, I'm sure he'll be in with us. Augie's drivin' the limo. I'm ridin' shotgun!

Liz - My leg issue is "calf strain". Essentially, it's micro-tears where the Achilles' attaches at the top. Not the typical place one usually has Achilles' problems. Since I've stopped using the tendon (walking essentially flat-footed), all the soreness is gone now. I'll continue to wear the boot and give it full rest until I go see the Doc on Thursday, then move onto his next stage of treatment. I'm hoping that my 8-miler will keep me "in the game" for W&D with just a few more long runs in September. My finish time may not be pretty, but I'll get there! But, like you, I've learned lots about the leg anatomy in the past week!

I saw the January Donald medal and like it! I certainly like it enough to race for it!

I also registered my niece for the Princess Half next February, so now it'll be my sister, niece, and me. The niece ran cross country in high school, so we're good to go! Are you and Carissa in for the Princess, Liz?

Off to the gym tomorrow for cross training (all upper body!)...

No Princess for me!

I saw the Donald medal yesterday and I was so bummed I wasn't doing the half this year! They did such a great job designing it. Can't wait to see the relay medal. :thumbsup2

My training has been just plain awful. A combination of pure laziness and physical issues have kept me from doing much working out at all. Each week I say, "This will be the week I get back on track!" I plan to hop on the bike this morning and the treadmill tomorrow.

I did sign my family up for a Mutt Strutt on September 18th. I don't think it's much of a race as I can't even find out how far it is! :rotfl: We'll be walking since I'll have my 3 boys with me and the dog. With my husband gone a lot it's pretty much impossible for me to sign up for any real races. Some of my long training runs this fall/winter might even have to be on the treadmill! :scared1:

Hope everyone has a great week!

Hey guys, does anybody remember the W.I.S.H. code for running warehouse? I remeber it changed a while back but can't remember the new one. Thanks for the help.

Tim

Good Morning to the Ducks! Hope everyone has been doing well. W&D is not too far away. An elevator ride sounds like fun, so I will be on the lookout. And a pre-race meet is in order also. I have done a race the last two weekends, last weekend was a 4 miler, and yesterday was a 5K. That one was done in the rain, but was not too bad, as one usually gets wet anyway, right? I have a few more planned, including a 10K two weeks before the W&D.

Keep up the good work, and see you soon!
